Spotting light bleeding

Hello all,

I have been experiencing light bleeding/spotting for about a week and a half. I have been to the ER and they have checked my HCG levels and they are steady rising. My levels went from 1,000 to 2,000 within 48 hours. However, its still too early to see anything on the ultrasound. Should I be worried or do you all think I will be okay? Has anyone else experienced this? Need answers

Re: Spotting light bleeding

  • Hi! In my experience some spotting can be normal. I was told brown, or dark red blood is old blood, but bright red blood could be worrisome.  That said, I have spotted bright red blood in early pregnancy and it turned out to be a subchorionic hemorrhage and I went on to have a healthy baby.

I'd take it as a good sign that your levels are doubling.

    FX everything is just fine.

  • I'm sorry that I don't have any experience to share, but just wanted to say I'm sending good thoughts your way.  :)
  • I had the same experience as @Assiram42
i spotted for the entire pregnancy on and off. It ranged from brown to red but was mostly always a watery pink colour. It was very unnerving but I now have a healthy and happy boy! Xo
    sending you good thoughts xo
  • I had some brown bleeding around 8 weeks with DD and it all turned out fine. A good friend of mine is currently 18 weeks pregnant and had some pretty heavy bleeding in the beginning that turned out to be some type of clot outside the sac. Baby was/is fine and the clot recently came out. It did take awhile for doctors to see it on an ultrasound and she is still monitored every other week. So even heavy bleeding can turn out ok. I think your levels rising is a great sign and I'm really glad you are being monitored by your doctor. FX and prayers for you and the little bean!!!
  • The nurse at my RE's office told me to not worry about spotting, just to worry about full flow bleeding.  She said it's normal to spot and cramping is normal.

  • I hate to be the one with a bad story but here it is: I never had spotting in my first 2 textbook pregnancies. Last time around I had a little bit of brown blood for a few days right at 8 weeks. They called and said that it didn't sound abnormal and not to worry and to call if it increased or turned bright red. Two weeks later, and no more spotting, I found out that baby's heart stopped beating at 7w4d. They told me that they do not think that the baby passing and the spotting were necessarily related but the fact that I never had spotting before AND it turning out that I had the spotting right after baby passed does not help me believe that a little brown blood doesn't mean anything. That was my ONLY indication that something might be wrong because my symptoms stayed in full force until my d&c. As you can see, no one else has mentioned a story like this, so I am sure I am the exception but I just wanted to share my experience in case you felt like following up sooner than later with your dr. I wish they had asked me to come in when I called so I didn't spend 2 weeks thinking I had a healthy baby when I did not.

  • Thanks @JAGinMI I appreciate it and surely will focus on the good. I surely am counting down the days. Lol
  • I had some bleeding and spotting with my 3rd baby. There wasnt a day that i wouldnt worry but thank god that i was able to carry him and he is know a healthy baby boy. So keep hope and faith you will be holding your new bundle of joy.

  • Just here for commiseration. I've spotted every day since I tested positive 10 days ago and have had two different bouts of bright red heavy bleeding. I also have zero pregnancy symptoms. But, my betas are rising and I keep getting positive tests. With my first pregnancy I never spotted and I also had symptoms right away. It's just so different from the first time around that I'm having a hard time believing I'm actually pregnant. I have a third beta and a u/s this week so I'm hoping to get confirmation one way or the other.

Hope everything turns out well for you @keaton732.

  • I spotted and had a heavier bleed at around 6 weeks with my daughter (she's now 2). Had an ultrasound done and it showed a small bleed but it cleared itself up and went on to have a healthy pregnancy!
  • @riverraine hope everything works out this week! Sorry to hear you are going through this.
  • During my last pregnancy I had some bleeding a spotting in the first trimester. I also noticed that the bleeding and spotting would increase after my husband and I did the deed. I have a healthy 10 month old now.
  • @riverraine Sorry to hear about that I hope all is well. Keep us updated on it all. Everybody else @jenburbank55 @halfthetree @wearetheramos My bleeding turned out to just be a small bleeding from a subchorionic hematoma which is a small amount of blood between the placenta and the uterus but however it has now cleared up...Thank God. Also I have an appointment in a few hours October 18,2016 at 11am here so I will be posting an update with an ultrasound soon. Thanks to each of you for your supportive responses :)
  • @keaton732 did you have your ultrasound when your beta was 2000?  did they see something within the uterus?  beta of 1500-2000 is considered the "discriminatory zone" in most cases, and something should at least be identifiable within the uterus (although they may not see a fetus yet or heartbeat)
