Third pregnancy, no scan, twins?

Hi there, I am 16 weeks pregnant into my third pregnancy. I haven't had any scans yet, have to wait until I'm 22 weeks when I'm scheduled for the anatomy scan. I've had only one appointment so far with my midwife (at 14 weeks). Other than blood pressure, she didn't take any measurements and said it was too early for a doppler to pick up baby's heartbeat. I am about the same size now as I was with my other babies at five or six months. I've been feeling flutters since 12 weeks that have since turned into kicks, I still have some nausea if I have an empty stomach, massive headaches I didn't have with my other pregnancies, and I am already so winded and exhausted from things I didn't find exhausting until eight or nine months pregnant with my other babies. I'm just curious about those pregnant with their third or more baby and whether you are significantly bigger and more exhausted at this point compared to your previous pregnancies. Also, I know this can only be confirmed by ultrasound, but I'm wondering if I could be pregnant with twins? I'm seriously huge compared to my other pregnancies and my body isn't handling this pregnancy as well as the others. Any mothers of both singletons and twins have any comments?

Re: Third pregnancy, no scan, twins?

  • This is my third also. I feel like I'm bigger now than with my other two.  I had two US so far and they confirmed one.  It could just be you know what you are feeling but if you haven't had any scans done it could possibly be twins. I'm 16weeks2 days and I have those same d symptoms you described.

  • Thanks for your reply. Nice knowing someone else is having a similar experience, aside from the discomfort for you of course. I guess I don't really mind either way, if it's a single or multiple pregnancy, but it's something that's weighing on my mind more and more, particularly because we still haven't had an ultrasound, unlike with my other pregnancies. Anyway, thanks for your reply and good luck with baby number three!

  • I am a atm and I feel similar. Added to that I'm a few years older now, which I think makes pregnancy harder on my body.

  • @calliequinn you are welcome.   @longliveregina I'm older also and this pregnancy is different than my other two when I was in my 20's.

  • I had a friend who thought she was having twins, she looked 7 months at 14 weeks, she showed picture comparison and she was much much bigger with this pregnancy than previous ones, it was just one baby at the 17 week ultrasound though. I know some women just get bigger faster after multiple pregnancies, especially if you've had them close together.

  • Wait....your midwife said 14 weeks is too early to pick up a heartbeat with a fetal doppler? No. You can pick it up around 10-11 weeks. I'm definitely bigger than the last time too and this is my third, but there's for sure only 1 in there.
