Incontinence Issue?

Hi all,

Question about sudden incontinence. I have had no issues through the pregnancy or the 3 months after birth with incontinence...until 3 days ago. I woke up in the night after starting to pee. It was only a little, but enough to wake me and use the bathroom. Last night it happened again, but I literally peed in bed. I felt like I was having a dream that I was peeing and then I woke up and did! Ugh...

Is it unusual for this to suddenly start to happen, particularly at night? I seem to have no issues in the daytime.

How long until I wait to go to the gyno/doctor?

Thanks!

  • ****not a doctor****

I feel like this could be a UTI or something similar. I'd see a Dr to rule out something simple and go from there.

  • How are you sleeping? If it's only happening at night it could be related to being in a very deep sleep. If it continues for more than a couple days I'd call the doctor.

  • If you haven't had it happen before now, it might not be pregnancy/birth related. I had the dream about peeing thing happen to me once in high school. The dream was hilarious, wetting the bed not so much! Lol, it only happened once, and I do think it was because I was so sound asleep and the dream was so vivid. If it keeps happening, it might be something, I would just keep an eye on it.

  • Agree with checking for a UTI - not always symptomatic with burning or pain
  • I went to an amusement park about a month ago and the roller coaster was so rough it caused me to pee my pants. I wish I would have been at home, would have been wayyy less embarassing.. The Dr told me my muscles just aren't as strong as they once were.
  • @nikkimarie159 I feel for you. The other day I had to go pee so bad and in attempt of undoing my sweatpant drawstring, it got knotted and peed myself a bit. I DEFINITELY cannot hold it was good as I used to kegels or not!

  • I'm starting kegels again. I came down with a cold about a month ago and still have a lingering cough. Ive noticed that when I cough really hard, I'll pee a little. Hopefully kegels will help tighten it all back up
  • So just a FYI if any of you ladies still have this issue. I was told today that it is "well passed time for all my parts to back in place" and sure enough, my ligaments holding up my bladder have been stretched. I am trying physical therapy, but ultimately might need surgery. If you're still struggling with incontanance. Go see your OB.  :(
  • Oh man!  That's rough.  My PT keeps telling me it takes a long time for your body to adjust after birth and 12 weeks of strength training to notice a change in pelvis floor muscles.  Also, she said the pelvic floor drops one inch during pregnancy and it never gets back that one inch completely.  Could you get a second opinion?
  • I have started physical therapy as well. Women have been told forever that you just have to deal with peeing when you jump/laugh/sneeze/cough after having a baby but that's not true. We can take measures to get everything back to normal.  I'm hoping to get everything strong again before trying for a second.
  • Calling the PT tomorrow. Mine isn't so bad except when I cough. The problem is that I caught whooping cough that turned into bronchitis that hasn't healed and is now bronchial malacia. I can expect to be coughing at least for the next 2 months....I don't have that many pairs of panties  :D
