Infertility

New here!

Hi everyone!

My name is Caitlyn and this week I found out that my tubes are blocked and I have uterine polyps. I think it will be a bit of a journey to get to ivf but we've been told that that is our only option.

A little about us- My DH and I got married in 2013. We live in Central PA and we started ttc in November of last year. I just started seeing an RE and was going through testing. My results from bloodwork were all normal except for a vitamin d deficiency. My HSG revealed the blocked tubes and uterine polyps. My RE said that we will do a saline sonohysterogram and then surgery to remove the polyps.

I'm really looking forward to the support in this group! I was super involved in the TTGP group for a while and don't know what I would have done without the relationships I built with those ladies throughout this process. Right now I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the new lingo seeing an RE and venturing towards IVF can bring. Can't wait to get to know you all!

Me: 28  DH: 28

Dx: Both tubes blocked, PCOS, DOR, RPL
IVF Cycle #1 Dec. 2016 - 11R·11M·5F - Transferred 2 - BFP - Miscarriage - 0 Embryos Left
IVF Cycle #2 March 2017 - 5R·4M·3F - Transferred 1 -  BFP - Miscarriage - 0 Embryos Left

Re: New here!

  • Welcome and sorry you find yourself here!

I had a not too dissimilar experience (same in so far as I had to wait for multiple surgeries before we could start with IVF).
It can feel so frustrating not even being able to TTC but make sure you take this time to build your relationship and get yourself healthy. Infertility is a rollercoaster but hopefully you don't news to spend too long on it!

I hope you find this community as useful as I have for information and support.

  • I had to have a uterine polyp removed before we did IVF, I think they're pretty common. Best of luck to you!

I also had polyps and had to have two surgeries to remove them. IVF is an emotional journey, but well worth it for me and my husband. Good luck to you!

  • Yay familiar faces! So sad for the circumstances but feel so reassured seeing you here @mrsdaddario @LadyMillil and @Beary67.

@Nellin It's so nice to hear from someone in a similar situation. Now that I've fully accepted that we only have one option (ivf) I want to get started ASAP but it sucks that we can't. We are going to take this time to build our relationship so we have a good foundation for the roller coaster we are about to get on... considering couples counseling but worried about the costs since we're going to be paying for ivf. We'll see...

@HopefulLily I think they are definitely common so that helps a lot. I'm just scared because I googled and read some things I shouldn't have. Hopefully it will be all normal and easy. Was the surgery to remove tolerable? My RE said they would do local, not general, anesthesia. But I'm such a baby I kind of just want to be knocked out.

@sberries Good to hear and thank you for the good luck wishes! Same question I asked above- did you get put to sleep for the uterine polyp removal or no? I've been reading people doing both.

@Bababatty Thank you! I appreciate the support! I'm terrified of needles so this ivf journey needs all the luck I can get.

@oxinfree Infertility sucks but the support I've received already is amazing and I'm so grateful for that. I'm hoping that that is the case for us. It's been a long, emotional road to get to this point already and the ride is far from over.

  • @PennStateCait We opted holidays that would be tough with kids/pregnant - a cycling trip and a trip to Vietnam eating all the random street :)
Planning holidays was a good distraction from infertility too!

My historoscopy to remove a utrine polyp was fine. They have me some woozy drugs but I was conscious.
I found egg retrieval much worse but I had a mountain of eggs to remove.
Bottom line is everyone is different and every procedure is different. Make sure you don't act tough, if it's hurting a lot tell them so they can increase your painkillers.
  • @Nellin Yes, we are planning an Ireland trip soon so that is taking our mind off of things a bit. We thought about cancelling but I think we need it more than ever now.

That's good news! I just heard the HSG was "nothing" and it was so dang painful for me (probably because of the blocked tubes) so now I'm terrified of everything that is about to happen to me. I will definitely be verbal about the pain, there's no doubt about that!

@PennStateCait I was put to sleep for the polyp removal. The procedure didn't take long at all and I really didn't have any pain, just some spotting for a few days after the procedure. I had never been put to sleep before so that freaked me out a little bit, but there was nothing to it! I agree with @Nellin that the egg retrieval was much worse for me, but I developed OHSS. Some women come out of their egg retrieval just fine though so hopefully you are one of the lucky ones!

  • I was knocked out when they did mine, which was fine but I was so groggy after and really nauseous, probably from the anesthesia meds. I would say if you can get by without being knocked out that might be better, although I understand being worried about it. My doctor basically described it like it was going to be such a simple easy procedure but I got really panicky once I got to the hospital and they were like putting an IV in my hand and everything, I was like, wait a second, I thought this was an in and out kind of thing. It was a little more involved than I was expecting. I don't know if you would experience that as much if you weren't getting knocked out though, seems like it might be simpler that way. Sorry that was really rambling, I'm sure it's going to go just fine, good luck to you!
  • I'm sad but also happy to see a familiar face @PennStateCait. I just wish it was under other circumstances!
