Progesterone Pills

Sorry if this doesn't go here but....is anyone else taking these?   My doc had me start 100mg progesterone micropills last night; I need to insert vaginally.   I pushed it in really far (just with my finger no applicator or anything).   When I woke up, I had white chalky discharge followed by some very slight brown spotting.  It was barely anything but I haven't been spotting at all until this.  Does this sound normal?

This would be a good question for the Pregnancy Chatter and Questions thread since it doesn't apply to group discussion.

I haven't been on those, so I can't help with your question. Sorry.

  • @verde1984 - the "infertility veterans" thread has a lot of ladies like myself on meds.  I take crinone 2x daily and what you describe sounds normal.  That gunk can build up.  Good luck and join us there if you have more questions on meds like that.
  • I'm on 200 mg progesterone suppositories
  • I'm on 10g at night. Expect lots of discharge and they can make your cervix very irritable. Brown is old so not a worry. You may have scratches your cervix inserting it. I get pink discharge placing mine sometimes from my sensitive cervix

  • I was on vaginal progesterone suppositories (200mg) from week 4-13. The discharge was no fun!!
  • @DungeonTrollMel @Elyse1384 Thanks!   That really puts my mind at ease.   I keep running off to the restroom to check for bleeding every so often and it's always fine.   Clearly I'm just freaking myself out.
@andrea0418 No, not fun at all.   See above about the constant checking.   Luckily, the nurse at my doc's office warned me to wear a liner.

  • The discharge is gross . And light brown or pink is normal from bruising the cervix . not to worry!  I have to stay on mine u til 10 weeks. I'm inserting 2 in the morning 2 at night. I found if I insert 2 in the morning and lay down for an hour the discharge is still bad but not as bad if that makes sense?  Lol
  • Luckily I only have to do one at night for now.   I do it before I go to sleep but I'll still get the nasty discharge when I wake up.  My 2nd blood test was today so we'll see what the doc says about them when she gets the results on Monday.

  • How were you all able to get your drs to test your levels? My drs office refuses to test them, I went to the er and they refused to test any of my levels, and I was/am having a threatened miscarriage just a week after going in for an appointment at my drs due to chronic stress from discrimination and abuse in my workplace and a heart rate of 122 beats per min (lectured me for scheduling an appointment with them then when I was only 5 weeks.....they did nothing for me except make me feel horrible for going in when I was not 10 weeks)

I did one cycle of IVF so they automatically put you on progesterone. However, I never heard of a doctor making you feel guilty for wanting to make sure everything is ok??? Maybe it's time to look for a new doctor, a high risk one where they have no problem checking everything!
  • My doctor did a blood test immediately after I told her I had a positive HPT and sent me for blood draw two days later to make sure the levels were rising.   They mentioned they would want me to come in for blood tests several times before my first ultrasound at 7 weeks. I've never heard of a doctor refusing to do it if there's cause for concern or guilting you for contacting them either, especially if there's risk factors.   I know it's probably stressful but I also think you should look into another doctor.

  • Thanks ladies. i agree......my dr himself is awesome but it's the nurses that do prenatal care there (won't even let me book an appt with my actual dr since my bfp). Ive been on waiting list for the midwives in my area about a month and ive also been trying to have my drs office refer to the local ob (specialzes in high risk) in the area (but the nurses wont.....going to try calling him myself and pleading for help after all this). The er tried doing me a favour since they don't have resources to test levels there (would have required many more days of me sitting around in er to get blood drawn and then in again next day for results) but almost wished I had opted to spend those extra days/hours for my own peace of mind. I'm high risk (was even told that at my drs office with my bfp) since i had a miscarriage in aug......but they keep refusing to treat me like it (havent/wouldn't test hcg levels, only fetal doppler scheduled for 10 weeks.....no ultrasound and ignore me if I ask) and wont test my progesterone level (I barely got nurses to test my 1st hcg level within 7 days of start of my threatened miscarriage......and with er dr advising it to be done). So needless to say its been a lot more very unnecessary stress during an already hard time and am in process of lodging formal complaint against them!! Thanks for ur responses on how u ladies came about getting ur levels tested!! :)
  • Best of luck!!! It's not fair how they are treating you and you should be able to ask and get answers to give yourself good piece of mind. I'm sorry about your loss in August ! (I had one May 2015) so I understand your stress of just wanting to make sure everything is going smoothly. Try and find a new OBGYN ASAP. Or if you like your doctor, go find a new one for a "consult" get your tests done there, and when you see everything is fine you can always make the choice to go back. :)
  • @xomarisaxo thanks so much for ur support! I found out i was accepted by the midwives in my area last night, so we're over the moon to have someone now who will be looking out for our best interests!! Been eating through nausea/aversions to get in as many natural progesterone increasing foods as I can stomach in meantime and hoping to find out today or tomorrow results of beta hcg, then u/s next monday. Hoping our lil bean is a sticky one!! Wishing u a happy and healthy pregnancy! :)

@Ashley.G I'm so happy to hear! Wishing you a happy pregnancy as well! I don't get notifications on my phone for some reason but how was your beta yesterday?? Sending happy thoughts!
  • @xomarisaxo my beta went from 19,926 to 28,460. Didn't double but it was only 3 days between blood being drawn so still trying to be hopeful since it's going up and know doubling time slows dowm after 6,000. Im on progesterone pills (200mg daily) after bloodwork (2nd opinions are great!!) so I'm a lot happier with my chances! Go for my 2nd u/s in 2 days now (11 days of waiting has been brutal!) and we're hoping to see a heartbeat! thanks for checking in on me!
