Car seat & coats this winter...

This time last year LO was brand new and we put him in a click and go car sea with a big fluffy, warm cover. Easy! Well, now he's the size of a 2 year old and in a stationary car seat. I know the last few years a lot has come out about 'no coats in the car seat because it's very unsafe'. How do I get around this? We park in the garage but it's still 20 degrees most of winter in the garage, if not wayyy colder. I don't feel like a blanket is good enough. He squirms out and kicks them away. Thoughts?

    Mine wear their coat to the car or a light sweatshirt and then we remove in the car. My littles are tucked in with their coat or a blanket once buckled in their seat. It's warm in the car so the jacket/blanket is really worn to and from the car.

    Do you have an automatic car starter? If not, how do you do it when you are at say the mall for a few hours and the car is cold by the time you get back to it?

    No, I don't. I just cover them up and start it while I buckle kids. I have six to get in and buckled so by the time I'm done making sure everyone is buckled, it's usually warm. I just cover them up with blankets while I work and they all wear hats in the winter.

    I'm using the heavy fleece onesies like the picture. With a hat and gloves and heavy socks and boots. If it gets really cold I'll add a fleece sweater too. I will have his heavy coat for the mall and such too.

    I think I am going to go with the LL BEAN Trail model Fleece. It's a heavy fleece but I am not positive. Taking a ride to Freeport this weekend to decide.

    If you get a regular coat, you can just strap him in and then put it on him backwards (Snuggie style). That's probably what we'll end up doing!

    We have a Columbia fleece jacket that LO wears in the winter during the short distance outside to the car and on the car ride to grandma's each day. It's lightweight and thin enough that it's still safe, but warm enough to keep him warm for that short distance. I bought a warmer coat and snow pants for actually playing in the snow :)

    I was thinking about that this morning... as cold as it gets here in WI blankets are not going to cut it. Good call on the fleece, I think Lands End and LL Bean both have some that are rated for pretty cold temps as long as you're not in the wind. Searching now!
