Happy *Canadian* Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians out there!

What are are your plans for this turkey day/weekend?
-Since FIL just passed last month we are struggling with wanting to do anything. Luckily we own a restaurant, so at 3 pm today we are just going there for some turkey.
-A cousin might be doing something tomorrow but we haven't talked to them yet, not sure we are ready for large family gathering without dad yet.

Re: Happy *Canadian* Thanksgiving!!

  • @mudderbear I'm so sorry that you are having a bittersweet holiday. I understand how you feel, my grandmother died around a Christmas and it took us a while to learn how to celebrate again. We eventually learned to love it again because she loved the holidays so much, so it became about honoring her with our celebrations. We play music she liked, wear the colors she liked, and try to talk about her as much as we can. Your father in law sounds like a very special person, warm hugs to you and your family today!

  • Happy Thanksgiving! I'm American with Canadian blood and love to celebrate. The turkey selection is pretty disappointing this time of year in the states. Enjoy your day with family!

@mudderbear I hope you are able to enjoy the food and presence of family today. Thinking about you.
  • I had a big supper with my side last night minus my brother due to some unfortunate circumstances and then I am hosting supper here tomorrow for the inlaws! Not looking forward to getting up early to cook to Turkey but I enjoy hosting and cooking so it should be a fun day

  • We had dinner with the ILs yesterday and then dinner with my family today. Had a great time at both.

  • @mudderbear Oh my dear lord! You can keep that snow out West, we don't want it here in Ontario, lol.
I'm sorry to hear about your FIL; my grandfather passed away one week after Thanksgiving so I understand how it can be hard not to associate the sad emotions with an otherwise happy occasion.
We did the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with my family last weekend - turkey, squash, stuffing, pumpkin pie, the whole nine yards. Dinner with hubby's family yesterday - roast beef? peas? coffee cake? The food was delicious but is not what I consider Thanksgiving fare (hubby and my MIL prefer roast beef, etc so that's what his grandparents make for most family dinners). So I slipped to my best friends' family Thanksgiving afterwards to have some turkey and turnip, lol.

  • @mudderbear That is what it looks like here too, we got snow last week and it stayed all week into this weekend. Then it snowed again last night! So over it.
