Tell Us Tuesday!

1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot.

2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.

3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?

4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.

Re: Tell Us Tuesday!

  • 1.  I'm not super well-traveled.  I've been to Germany, Ireland and Iraq in the Army, but I never was able to travel outside and enjoy it.  So my lame favorite vacation spot is Longboat Key, FL. We try to visit annually, but we missed last year. I love the beaches and quaint town, it's not too busy either.

    2. In high school I was a cheerleader, but I hung out with a lot of people from different cliques.

    3. I'm not a big reader.  My favorite book is Night by Elie Wiesel.  My favorite movie is Footloose.

    4. Growing up I wanted to be a Forensic Pathologist.  I realized after job shadowing that I'd have to possibly work on children and I couldn't live with that.

This would definitely have to be our wedding/honeymoon. We got married in Key West and spent a week there celebrating with family and friends before taking off to Maui for another week. It was the best two weeks of my life. My dream vacation is to spend a couple of weeks in an over water bungalow in Bora Bora.  We talk about maybe doing that for a big anniversary someday.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.
I was a cheerleader for a couple of years but definitely wasn't part of the "popular" clique. I had friends from a lot of different groups, which is still how I am today. A lot of my friends have nothing in common with each other.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?
I don't read much, terrible I know. My favorite movies are kind of random. I love anything Denzel Washington and I also love older comedies like The Three Amigos and Airplane!

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.
I wanted to be a doctor and ended up becoming a nurse. I definitely did not have the drive and discipline at 18 years old to get into medical school. I should say, nursing is a VERY demanding degree as well, but I actually went back to nursing school after completing my first degree so I was in college until about 25 anyway.
  • 1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot.
DH and I love traveling to the DR. It's our favorite. But I think our 2 week European adventure 6 yrs ago was the best. London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris. One of the day we woke up in one country had lunch in a second and fell asleep in a third. We did it all on a tight budget and I think it made us so much stronger as a couple.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.
I have three close gf from HS but I don't think I really fell into a clique. I played sports, I hung out with people in band, geeks, jocks, everyone inbtwn.
    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?
Favorite book: Summer Sisters and Matilda. Favorite movie The original Tom Sawyer, Muppets Take Manhatten, Tommy boy.
    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.  Always wanted to be a writer still do. I just am so self conscious of my writing.
  • 1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot. My honeymoon with DH.  We took two weeks and each picked a place to visit.  I picked Paris and DH picked a cruise around Italy.  I LOVED Paris and Venice.  My favorite spots.  I'm big on walking to and from destinations (shout out to Boston) and both cities seemed great for that.  Also the history, food and people rocked.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.  I guess you could put me in the sports group, but I didn't really have a clique.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?  Favorite book I'm torn between Hot Zone and Da Vinci Code. Favorite movie... I couldn't possibly narrow it down.

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.  Oh well I had big dreams.  I was either going to be a Ninja Turtle or work at TCBY.  Big time dreams there.  I kind of became a ninja turtle in a way... I'm a 4th degree black belt in karate.  I ultimately opted to not make either my career as a) there really isn't a call for ninja turtles, b) I realized working in an ice cream shop solely because I love ice cream wasn't the best approach and c) bills
  • @MKRLTX, that vacation sounds glorious!  Bora Bora would be amazing.
  • 1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot. When I was 16 my family went on an Alaskan cruise. It was amazing. We sat on the balcony a lot and saw all sorts of neat ice caps, we went on a helicopter ride to a glacier, saw whales and bald eagles up close. Such a remarkable experience.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc. I was a cheerleader but also the president of the art club... so I hung out with a lot of random people mostly. I don't keep in touch with many from HS days.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both? Harry Potter and GWTW

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why. I always wanted to be an art teacher. I almost pursued art in college but thought I should do something a little more practical. :/

  • I'm jealous of all of these vacations!

@Elyse1384, being a Ninja Turtle sounds like the best job ever.  Fighting crime and eating pizza all the time.  If you ever rethink that career choice, I'll join your turtle pack.
  • Good post!

    1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot.
I have three. The first would be our honeymoon to St. Lucia for three weeks. It was amazing to just relax and not have any type of schedule to follow. We stayed at the Sandals resort and everyone waited hand and foot on us. I ate the best fish of my life while I was there and its one of the prettiest place I have ever seen. Second vacation would be Hawaii. Its simply gorgeous and the vibe is great. Everyone is friendly. Although it is very expensive. I'd go  back in a second of I could. Last, was the month long tour to Europe. I loved learning about the different culture. The food was OK but the architecture had me blown away.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.
I was preppy from freshman to sophomore year and hung out with the Jocks. Then I figured out I didn't mess so well with them and I found myself with the sort-of punks.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both? Fav movie is Dirty Dancing and Breakfast Club.

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.
I really would enjoy  being a professional people watcher. I would be the best. If I can't be that, then I would love to continue my career in Nursing.

    wheew that was long.
  • This seems fun, especially since I didn't need to think of the questions myself ;-)

    1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot.

My honeymoon.  We went to South Africa and Mauritius and it was just the best.  We loved the three locations we went to and didn't want to leave any one of them, and were so relieved when we loved the next location just as much.  I could have stayed in Cape Town forever I think. It was really beautiful scenery, and the safari was awesome and we really threw down for super nice hotels everywhere, and the food was amazing...the only bad thing was the flight!  We knew we were going to start TTC immediately, so we viewed it as a honeymoon/last hurrah before having kids.  And good thing too, because DD was born less than a month after our first anniversary!  Haven't left the country since.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.

I mean I did a little of everything, but most the people I hung out with were athletes (football for the boys - went to a big football school; field hockey/track for the girls), but I was a cheerleader, and also in the musical theatre productions, the choir, and about 200 other clubs and activities.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?

Ugh this is too hard.  I don't really have favorites, but I do love Anchorman.  And Disney movies.  And I read a little of everything, so it's almost impossible for me to pick a clear winner.

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.

I wanted to be all sorts of things, none of which were accountant, which is what I wound up being.  I thought I wanted to be a doctor or veterinarian, but then I barfed when we were dissecting a frog in 7th grade and that dream died.  I also wanted to be a teacher for a while, but i hate dealing with people, so that probably wouldn't have worked out real great.  I wanted to be a singer when i was really young.  Basically i like to have money and decided i should pick a job where that was likely to happen, so i landed on accounting/finance.  Completely practical decision.  And my college had a nationally recognized accounting program, so that helped.

  • 1. We did two weeks in Fiji for our honeymoon. It was an amazing trip for fairly obvious reasons.

We've also done Disney twice with the kids. While exhausting, the looks on their faces were priceless.

    2. I swam and cheered and was active in all the class activity planning.

    3. The Book Thief is probably my favorite book of late. I can't say I really have a favorite movie.

    4. I wanted to be a teacher, and a teacher I was... until l had my first daughter. Now I SAH.

My mom and I went to NYC a few years ago and had an amazing time. We ended up going back the next year.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.
I played sports, but my school was really too small to be very cliquey.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?
I used to be an avid reader, but I haven't done much reading lately. My favorite is probably the Outlander series.

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.
I was either going to be a nurse, or a cashier at Walmart. My mom (the nurse) told me to stick with Walmart, lol. I would be a terrible nurse... blood, hospitals, doctors offices.. all give me major anxiety.

  • Thanks for starting this @Assiram42 I definitely feel like I get to know everyone that contributes daily.

    1. I'm slowly becoming a fan of family road trips.  While we didn't travel far, we took our son out to explore Austin, TX and it was a trip to remember.  His behavior was top notch which made me really love taking him from place to place.  Our next trip will be out to Boston-I want to experience spring in the north east!

    2. I was the social butterfly in high school.  Friends with everyone, while having a core group of similar girlfriends.  Loved those 4 years!

    3. Too many to name, but one of my favorites that just made it to Netflix happens to be Dazed and Confused.  I will never forget the time my older brother sat me down and made me watch it with him.

    4. I knew that I wanted to be a mom and work with kids, and here I am as both.  Life is good, y'all.

We just went on our first ever vacation. Took our eleven month old with us to Southeast Kentucky and spent some time hiking different state parks. We rented a private cabin and just relaxed. Nothing fancy but it was a great first vacation.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.

I was in FFA and 4H so I was friends with all the farm kids that went to my high school. I was also in all honors, AP and gifted and talented classes so I was also friends with the nerds. However, I didn't really fit into either group so I was kinda the outlier in both groups and kept to myself. Now I only have one friend that I keep in tough with from high school and she lives 14 hours away.

    3. Tell us your favorite book, or movie, or both?

Favorite book is the Horsewhisperer by Nicolas Evans
    Favorite movie is The Notebook

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.

Always wanted to be a veterinarian but could not pass chemistry or calculus in undergrad. Also didn't see myself going through 8 years of school and putting myself in that kind of debt.

  • 1. Tell us about the best trip/vacation you've been on. Who did you go with? Where did you go? Why was it great?  If don't have one, tell us your dream vacation spot.  I lived in Spain for a year and it was amazing but not really a trip.  I think the best trip I've been on was with DH before we were married.  We went to AZ for a week and I just have such great memories of traveling around AZ that week.  Plus, Sedona is beautiful and I want to live there forever.

    2. Tell us what clique you belonged to in high school?  Were you in band, cheerleading, sports, theater, etc.  I was a catch all, similar to many here.  My main group friends were kind of nerdy boys and I was more of a sister/mom figure.  I played sports and sang.

    3. Tell us your favorite book,or movie, or both?
@delujm0     This movie is quoted by me pretty much every day of my life.  High five.
I have terrible taste in most movies, minus Anchorman... I basically could watch any romantic comedy any day.

    4. Tell us what you always wanted to be (career-wise) as a kid.  If you aren't in that career, tell us why.
I know you asked "career wise" but... I always wanted to be a Mom - isn't that a career!? FOR LYFE?!  ;)  I actually choose teaching as a profession because it seemed easier to be a mom and a teacher than anything else.  Now, I still teach but the bulk of my work has me away my kids for days sometimes and, although I miss them, my career is amazing.

  • Here I go again being all late to the Tuesday party...

    1. Paris for NYE with my Mr, my lil sis and her hubby (before we were all married). It was such a great trip! I had just graduated college and none of us had any money so we lived off cheap wine, bread and cheese for the week. Our one nice meal was a reservation Dad had made and paid for from the States. And there was LOTS of aimless roaming. It was GREAT!!!

    2.  *********TW********** High school feels like a lifetime ago, but I was in a group with the Metal Heads (hard rockers, head bangers... Whatever you wanna call them) until we lost 4 people from our group to suicide. Then the whole group turned goth. I couldn't handle it so I left. *****end TW********
I joined Pep Squads for my Jr and Sr years. It was fun to perform and hang out with the dance and band kids!

    3. I don't get to read as much as I'd like these days, but I'm currently working on 2 books: a biography of Teddy Roosevelt (fascinating man!) and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Fave movie is Tombstone.

    4. I wanted to be a veterinarian from the time I was 4. During my junior year of undergrad I had an epiphany: I HATED the people I was going to school with and these would be the type I'd work with for the next 30+ years?!?! Oh hell no! I took some years off and found my calling in business and adult education. I'm so passionate about growing people and helping my business to thrive! I can't imagine doing anything else
