WATER and pure EXHAUSTION!!!

How are you ladies keeping up with the amount of water you are "suppose" to drink without being completely water logged!?!?!  I know I need to drink more water, but I feel like I fall short each day!  I will admit that I am a soda (Coke) addict and I have started only limiting myself to 1 per day now that I am pregnant (i was up to like 4 per day).  I am not the best water drinker and I've added lemon to my water to help but its still just BLAH!!!

My other major issue is with being just plain EXHAUSTED.  I mean, I literally could have fallen asleep around 11 today while trying to teach!  It was a struggle to say the least!  I am sure this is also related to the lack of caffeine in my system.

Anyone else in the same boat or have suggestions to help me get through this!!!!  :)

Re: WATER and pure EXHAUSTION!!!

  • I have one of those double-walled Oggi water bottles. I just set a mental goal and drink at least 2 a day, which amounts to 2 liters. I like how cold it keeps the water even when it's just sitting out on my desk!
You could try drawing marker lines and times to have that amount finished by on a larger bottle? I have friends that do that when they are training in order to pace themselves to get to a gallon a day.

I also drink seltzer water with lime in a can. This isn't for everyone since it has no sweetness, but it's a way of getting in water

  • Thanks!!  I have a yeti type cup that I ise and I think I'm suppose to drink at least 3 1/2-4 per day
  • I am usually the worst at drinking a lot of water. I have been adding lemon to my water and also buying lime flavored sparkling water (Perrier) which seems to help. My hubs brought home some crystal light packets too but I haven't tried them yet.
  • I sucked at water in-take the first go around and I will probably suck this time too.
  • I love water, but it does get blah. I also have a chilled water thingy, I think it's an Aladdin, but it's only 16 oz, so I try to get in a minimum of four each day.  I'm not a fan of fruit in my water, but my office mate brings cucumber water, lemon/lime water, or even strawberries.  That might help you make water less blah.

Another thing that helps me is tea, I like cold tea, so I'll make a pitcher of black tea and then dilute with water as the day goes on, then I feel less like I'm drinking water.
  • I have different flavors of crystal light if I get sick of drinking plain water to switch things up
  • Try getting a fancy cup. They have a whole aisle of them at Target. I have a big purple plastic mason jar with a lid and straw. I refill it all day. It helps me track how much I'm drinking and something about the straw helps me drink more. I also use a cute straw water bottle when I'm out of the house and I remember to refill it if we're out for the day.
  • The exhaustion was the worst part for me during my first pregnancy and I was teaching, too! I legit slept through lunch and planning breaks pretty much every day of my first trimester. Also, snacking throughout the day helped combat the exhaustion. ...this time I have a 10 month old who is on a nap strike so I don't know what I'm gonna do this time.

  • Thanks ladies!!  I wish water just tasted better. Lol.
  • I'm a total cola addict as well and water is tough for me. Not much advice,  just some
    solidarity.

  • Also I miss Diet Coke like crazy. When I stopped breastfeeding DD, I drank it like it was going out of production and now I'm back to none.  :(
  • So glad I'm not the only soda addict that is missing it!!
  • @Jendink I had really terrible exhaustion with my DS through 14wks or so. Resting when you're able and need to is so crucial! Also, I found that keeping snacks handy and increasing my movement/exercise actually helped fight off the "I'm going to fall asleep right here, right now" feeling. Also, naps. They are a must.

I'm not much help with the water...I have the opposite problem, I drink TOO much. I'm obsessed and love drinking water. I guess I was a fish in my previous life.
I like everyone's ideas though! Fun cup/straw, flavored water, lots of ice!

  • @devow27. Thanks!  Naps are hard for me since I teach pre k all day but I get an hour break that I may have to sneak naps
in during!  First thing that I did when I got home with my dd after school today was turn on Sofia so I could at least lay down!  It totally helped!
Im trying a straw tomorrow with my yeti cup.  I tend to drink more out of a straw.

The exhaustion is just killing me!  Especially with a 2 year old running around. Lol
  • I always keep a water bottle (the kind with a straw like a reusable soda cup) at my desk at work. It's dumb, but I think being able to grab and take a sip without unscrewing a cap or anything helps
me mindlessly hydrate through the day. At home, I live on flavored sparkling/seltzer water. Winco has a good non-sweet kind I like a lot.
  • My Nalgene bottle just loops on my finger and follows me everywhere.  Teaching and all of the talking helps me actually want to drink water.  I'm already thinking of parent conferences and how many times I'll need to squeeze in a bathroom break.  By the end of those days I refuse to talk to anyone.
  • @babytuck15 my 18 month old is also on a nap strike. It suuuuuucks! Mama needs that nap desperately.

I have a cool water pitcher that I fill up (with lemon and cucumber or just lemon) and pour from it throughout the day. Totally helps.
  • @HookEmNelson. I have conferences at the end of October ans I'm dreading them bc it means long hours at work and way more talking.
  • @Jendink Those days leading up, including the actual day, are so draining.  I haven't gone through a full scheduled 2 days of conferences while pregnant before, so it will be interesting.  Mine are Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.
  • @HookEmNelson. I must have done it when I was pregnant with my first bc she is an April baby but I was further along and maybe not in the exhausted phase. Or I just blocked it out of my memory!  Which is always possible since "pregnancy brain" turned into "mommy brain" which is really just mush anyways. Lol
  • I like to add in coconut water in my day as well.  It really helps when I'm tired of plain old water.
  • When I was pregnant with my first, I had a slight addiction to the green G2 Gatorade. I agree though that a cup with a straw works best for me.

I was slightly addicted to red Gatorade!

  • Ugh the exhaustion is how I knew I was pregnant. I started losing all motivation during the day and could barely get through the afternoon without a nap. I'm glad I was pregnant and not just being really lazy like I thought.

My last pregnancy I swore by sparkling water (pellegrino specifically) I had never really had it before and it became kind of an addiction. I went from pouring it over ice with a splash of cranberry juice to drinking it warm out of the bottle in the grocery store. We all have our vices  :#
  • I use myfitnesspal when I remember to. It has a water count feature too that I've used. I need to start using it again.
  • @lifeislove87 me too. I am SO thirsty today. All I do is chug large glasses of water, but I haven't had to pee anymore than usual. Baby Bean must be using that water for something important.
