Go to OB on Tuesday. It's a regular appointment. She'll schedule for my glucose test and a 28 week ultrasound though. I can't wait to see this baby again in the coming weeks. Nervous about growth staying on track.
We have interviews with 2 pediatricians this week (Tuesday and Thursday). I need to get my list of questions together. 1 doctor was highly recommended by my doula but is about 20 minutes away. The other was recommended by my neighbor and is only 5 minutes from our house. Hoping the closer one works out for the sake of convenience.
@KRB22 I applaud the fact that you are looking early. With DS we had a meeting scheduled with a pediatrician we'd heard good things about during week 37. Turns out DS didn't want to wait and was born prior to that appointment so we cancelled it. So when asked who our pediatrician was we just went with that one and ended up seeing her two days post discharge for a follow-up and in her first interaction with us she had to send us to the hospital to be readmitted. However, we love our pediatrician. We saw her at least once a month the first year of DS's life so I definitely suggest picking one that's convenient
@Carly79 thanks! When I called to make the appointments both doctors were booking at least a month out, so I wanted to make sure we got something scheduled, in case they get even busier. I am up by the further pedi's office at least once or twice a week anyway, but he's not affiliated with the hospital we'd go to in the event of an emergency, while the other is. Also I'm assuming I won't want to be driving as much at least in the early months. Sooo hopefully that will work out. If not I might look for another nearby option just to compare.
@KRB22 Thank you for reminding me that I need to call our potential pediatrician this week!
I have my glucose test on Friday morning. There was nothing to call and set up. My doctor just gave me paperwork and I go to the lab whenever I would like to go. Ugh. I'm absolutely dreading it!
I had glasses prior to pregnancy, mainly for computer work and the prescription is small. I was at the eye doctor the other day and they said they can definitely tell that there is some swelling in my eye which is what causes sight changes during pregnancy. She said not enough to change the prescription at this point because once baby comes it should go back to normal. She said much like feet and hands, our eye swell. She did tell me to make sure I keep wearing my glasses and wear them more often than just on the computer to help.
Last night was our first childbirth class- does that count? It was all run of the mill info that I already knew but I'm really glad H is attending with me. We have 2 more sessions (yesterday was mainly about the physiology of pregnancy, next session will be about labor and pain management, third session about birth, a little newborn care, and our hospital's / doctors' rules and regulations)
Adding another class for sure because we left last night and H got all stressed "but how do I not kill the babbys?? Why won't they teach me that??" Haha poor guy, we'all take the childcare class at the hospital next
@TinaBelcher I love it I definitely think DH got a lot more out of the classes we took than I did. I didn't feel like there was much new but he learned a lot. We took a lot of the basic baby care classes that our hospital offers. I'm really pushing for him to take the cpr/first aid class the hospital offers this time around. I am certified and just had a refresher course a couple months ago but think he would feel better if he takes it. I'm just not sure I can get him to take it if I don't go to but unfortunately they charge for that one and I have trouble paying for something I already have (and was free through work).
@TinaBelcher and @Carly79, that's how I felt with DH and the breastfeeding class with our first....so worth it for the info he learned and the laughs!!
I had my 24 week appt today and everything was great! The baby didn't give the nurse a hard time finding the heartbeat....must have been sleeping. I was measuring exactly at 24cm for 24 weeks. Sometime before my 28 week appt I need to go do the glucose test, yippee. Oh well, I'll get a quiet hour to myself without my two girls
We did our pediatrician consult on Monday evening and oh my goodness, he was just about the sweetest doctor ever.
Our breastfeeding class is tonight and I'm not really sure what to expect out of a 3-hour class about it! The childbirth classes start later this month and are like, weekly 3-hour classes that last into December and that seemed kind of crazy to me, but your breakdown of how yours went @TinaBelcher, it kind of makes sense now.
If anyone's on the fence about taking a breastfeeding class, it's totally worth it. It was just awesome to be able to ask questions directly to someone who works as a lactation consultant and practice the different holds with a doll and get feedback. Also great info for dads to be on ways they can be supportive and tons of info on how to identify problem latches and signs that the baby is hungry (before it turns into crying).
Had my 24 week appointment this morning and pretty boring. Waited longer in the room than actually saw the dr. Heartbeat was great, belly is measuring big and if it stays that way I'll have an ultrasound at 36 weeks to check on baby's size and discuss a possible induction at 38/39 weeks. Not what I wanted to hear! I'm not against inductions, but I don't think a baby measuring big is a good reason to induce early. My first was 8lbs 10oz and labor and delivery went totally smooth. I'm trying not to worry about it because growth could even out and I won't even need another ultrasound. I was also told I haven't gained enough weight. I'm following the same pattern I did with my first though. Super sick in the first trimester, lost weight. Slowly gained in the 2nd trimester and then normal in the 3rd trimester and I gained the proper amount. I was already annoyed she was late so anything my dr said this morning just really bugged me. Thanks hormones! Scheduled to go back at 28 weeks for glucose test.
@nolemomma14 I hate the whole measurement/growth scan thing. Especially since as you get to that 36 week mark, the weight can vary by +/- 2 lbs and that makes a huge difference. With my first I was measuring ahead at 36 weeks so they did a ultrasound and baby was about 6.5lbs. Didn't schedule an induction or anything because at that point we were only looking at a 8 lb baby give or take (depending on the +/- 2 lbs). I ended up going in to labor a few days later and baby was 6lbs 14oz so it was fairly accurate for me but I still don't like it. Fingers crossed yours levels out and it won't even be an issue
Thank you @Carly79. I know those measurements can be off, which is why I thought it was strange that she mentioned an induction. I've been told this whole pregnancy that this one could be bigger than my first, but even if he's a pound bigger, it's under 10lbs and I feel like women have big babies everyday. I didn't share my concerns about the induction with the dr because it could end up not even being an issue, so fingers crossed!
@nolemomma14 I'm sorry, that sounds like kind of a frustrating appointment. I think even if your doctor suggests an induction later on you don't have to agree to it. The counter argument for "big baby" concerns is it's really rare for women to grow babies they anatomically can't birth. My mom is tiny, and my youngest sister was 10 lbs. Her labor was unmedicated and like 6 hours start to finish.
I also have a friend who recently had a 9lb 13oz baby. At her growth scan they estimated the baby would be around 8 lbs, so there was no talk of induction or c section. She also had an easy, uncomplicated vaginal delivery.
@KRB22. Thanks! I'm definitely going to just wait and see how the rest of the pregnancy goes and if baby still measures big I will talk to the dr about not wanting to be induced. Their measurements can be off. I first and foremost want to do what's best for baby but I really feel like I would at least like the opportunity to go in labor on my own, like I did with my first!

I find that my eye sight is getting worse and worse the further along I get in this pregnancy.
