Re: Friday 10/7 Ticker Change

  • How far along are you?  5 weeks

    How big is baby? Appleseed

Upcoming appointments this week? Nothing until my first US on 10/19

Any new symptoms or changes? I had a couple waves of nausea this week and I have been tired but not too much to report

Rants/Raves/Questions? Just happy that it's almost the weekend.  It's cool and rainy here this morning and I love itl

GTKY: What does your typical Friday night look like?  Pre-pregnancy it definitely included some wine or good beer. My husband home brews so we always have a kegerator full of his beer that I unfortunately can't drink now.  We generally pick out something fun to cook together, which I really enjoy.  Every so often we'll go out to dinner on Friday, but we usually save that for Saturday nights.  We also watch a movie or catch up on the shows we recorded during the week.  Exciting, I know

How big is baby? a sweet pea

Upcoming appointments this week? Nope. Nothing until 10/18 and no ultrasound until 10/28.

Any new symptoms or changes? Definitely an increased sense of smell.  Nausea comes and goes and I tire more easily on my runs, but nothing too crazy.

Rants/Raves/Questions?  No questions yet.  Rant - someone in my 8:30am class sits in the front row and wears a ton of super sweet perfume, which brings on the nausea pretty reliably.  Rave - Looking forward to a weekend that the perfect mix of planned fun and relaxation.

GTKY: What does your typical Friday night look like?  Like @MKRLTX I used to love a good craft beer on Fridays, especially since we live about 10 minutes from our favorite microbrewery.  Otherwise I'm pretty dull - it's usually a normal dinner at home and Netflix with the cat and husband (if he's not working) and maybe some reading or knitting.

How big is baby? Ovia says baby is the size of a lavender bud and babysizer says baby is the size of a pop rock crystal.

Upcoming appointments this week? I don't have anything till my ultrasound on Oct. 13th.

Any new symptoms or changes? Morning sickness has just started in the last 2 days. It's still fairly mild and most of the time I feel fine. I do have some bad waves of nausea though. And I almost threw up my prenatal this morning. This is probably the last day I'll have prental pills in the rotation with my prenatal shake.

And round ligament pain has apparently started. I thought that was later in pregnancy? So every time I cough or sneeze it hurts. Same with changing positions too quickly if I've been sitting for awhile.

Oh, and frequent urination. I'm peeing all the time. It's like when my IC was bad only once I pee I do feel better for the next 45 minutes or whatever.

Rants/Raves/Questions? I noticed yesterday morning that the prenatal protein powder I've been using is only 15 servings per container. I did the math on it really quick and realized that at $43ish dollars per container I'll end up spending about $800 on prenatals during this pregnancy. Ya know, assuming it goes to term. I compared that with the prenatal I was taking before I found out I have the MTHFR mutation and my previous prenatal was around $20 for 150 "servings." So I would have only spent about $40 dollars for enough prenatal vitamins to last me the entire pregnancy. That price difference is just staggering. I mean I'll do it and if it gets me a healthy take-home baby finally I'll pay whatever happily. But sheesh.

GTKY: What does your typical Friday night look like? My husband and I are huge gamer nerds. We normally just stay in and binge some video game.

  • @NamelessAria I had RLP with my daughter as early as 5-6 weeks, at the exact times you are describing, especially when I'd been at my desk for a while and then got up suddenly.  It did ease up in the second tri before coming back later in the third.

Upcoming appointments this week? just scheduled my first appointment - 11/3.  My doctor doesn't have you in until around 8 weeks if you're low risk.  It's hard to wait, but I'm thankful that I don't have a history of loss or any other issues that would require me to go in earlier at least.  I'll just test every Friday until then to keep myself happy.

Any new symptoms or changes? Just tired and a bit of bloating here and there.  I may or may not be sitting at my desk for casual Friday today with my jeans unbuttoned.

Rants/Raves/Questions?  I cannot suggest this enough - go out and get Fiber+Calcium prenantal gummies, everyone.  They DO NOT replace your normal prenatal, they are in addition to.  Dosage is 2/day but I was able to get by on 1/day for my first pregnancy, until really late on.  Does wonders for bloating by keeping you regular.  I just got mine last night.  Target makes a good generic, or you can get them on Amazon too.

GTKY: What does your typical Friday night look like?  Haha I wake up at 4:45am and have a toddler, so I pick her up from daycare, feed her dinner and play a bit, give her a bath, put her to bed around 7:30, and then make and eat my dinner, and clean up all of my stuff from the gym and work that day, sit on the couch for about 20 minutes, and then pass out.  Dinner used to include wine.  If we have anything good in the DVR I will watch one show before going to bed.  To be fair, even before we had kids I woke up early to work out in the morning, and we're not big Going Out people, so I would come home from work at 5:30, make a decent dinner, and then we'd watch TV and I'd go to bed by 10.  DH usually stays up later because he sleeps later than I do in the mornings.  Big excitement.

  • @NamelessAria also, I forgot - sometimes if you take your prenatal at night before bed instead of in the morning, it solves the sickness issue.  Basically because you get in bed right after, so by the time you'd feel sick you're asleep.  I've always taken mine at night for that reason.
  • @delujm0 I'll have to try that! Thanks for the tip. And it's good to know that RLP isn't unheard of in the 1st trimester. I've been spending so much time so far wondering "is this normal?" over different things. PGAL brain is rough.

  • @delujm0 Thank you for that suggestion. I just ordered some from Amazon.  I forgot to mention it in my symptoms... but I think I could use a little extra fiber.
@NamelessAria I also take my prenatal at night before bed for the same reason.  It definitely helps!

  • @MKRLTX your Friday nights sound similar to ours! My hubby brews also and has a keg in a mini fridge full of beer!

Any new symptoms or changes? Nausea after I eat and my breasts feel full all of the time. Sometimes I get "pinching" type pains in my breasts, also. I am slightly fatigued and noticed I get winded quicker than I used too. Another symptom, which I may notice because it's the nurse in me, is my heart rate is faster than normal for me.

Rants/Raves/Questions? I went to see "The Girl on the Train" today. I don't know why I expected it to be as good as the book because the movies never are but it still disappointed me.

GTKY: What does your typical Friday night look like? As some of the other ladies, our typical Friday night used to consist of going to a brewery in town or going to dinner/drinks with friends. It now will consist of movie nights and spending time with our fur babies. I'm totally ok with that! We may still go to some breweries as my husband will definitely take advantage of having a designated driver for the next 8 months! haha
  • @NurseSHS13 It's interesting that you mentioned the heart rate thing. A friend of mine told me that FertilityFriend is doing a study on the correlation between resting heart rate and pregnancy because a lot of ladies have been saying their resting heart rate goes up when they get pregnant.

I've noticed that my resting heart is normally around 60-70 and it's been 100+ since I got pregnant. So it has definitely gone up some.

That's also too bad about "The Girl on the Train." My father-on-law read it and kept raving about how good it was for weeks. I saw they were making it into a movie and was like "oh nice! I'll have to go see that!" If the book is that much better maybe I'll just skip the movie and read the book.

  • @NamelessAria I will have to see if I can find anything on the fertility friend study. I did some research on my own and the only thing I could find, that made sense, was that the heart rate increases to compensate for the amount of blood flow going to the placenta as well as to the other parts of our body. My resting heart rate ranges from 60-70 and recently it has been high 90's - 118 while watching a movie today. I can feel it beating faster at times and just happen to check it.

The movie is still worth seeing but maybe on redbox instead. :)
  • Joining late...

How far along are you? 4 weeks (on Friday, +2 days now)

    How big is baby? Poppyseed

Upcoming appointments this week? Haven't called my mw yet

Any new symptoms or changes? Pretty sure my GI-related symptoms started before the stick even dried.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Rave for Vega vitamin powder. It's not officially a prenatal but it's full of good food-based stuff. Good flavors (I'm using orange grapefruit now) and dissolves in water.

We usually watch a movie as a family, then put the kids to bed, have a beer or two, watch an episode of whatever show we're bingeing or play a board game. Bed by 11 at the latest.
