Rusty Red/Brown Color Spotting @ 7wks 3days

I'm totally freaking out. I had my 3rd US this morning and I had a pretty upsetting morning with some crazy lady road rage woman and now I just went to the bathroom and there is some rusty colored milky discharge coming out like as if i'm getting my period. At the US today everything looked great, baby is measuring where is should be, bpm 153,,, So i'm not sure. I need some help and some honest answers... My HCG didn't start off high but always doubled and I should get those results this afternoon. UGH totally breaking my heart right now....

Did they do a vaginal u/s ? I was told that intercourse and vaginal u/s can cause spotting. I think you should talk to your nurse but what I have heard was that dark color spotting is usually fine.

It could be irritation from the u/s and also if you are on vaginal suppositories those could cause irritation as well.

@zoefer Yes it was a vaginal US but i'm just so worried. I did have a slight pink two days ago but it went away and now this? I'm freaking out and I know I need to stay calm but i don't know how. We have been through so much and we don't have any embies left. Ugh I wanna crawl in a ball and cry my eyes out.

You can call and talk to your nurse, but my RE told me to expect a little spotting after the u/s. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It just depends. If you saw a strong heart beat, I'd venture to say everything is fine. If you are worried, take a load off your feet, rest up, and check in with the nurse.

@LSatturo126 I am so sorry how you feel, but all of us can relate to your feelings. There are so many ladies here that had spotting and even heavy bleeding in the first trimester. I hope they can help to calm you down. If you saw that everything was fine with the baby just today, it is most probably okay ! Call your nurse/doctor and please try to stay positive and calm.

@LSatturo126 I had two bleeding episodes early on. One was after a vaginal ultrasound, the other after a Pap smear. It is likely ok and from the ultrasound but let your doctor know. Mine turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma but everything resolved itself and it wasn't an issue. I did take it easy, I was on pelvic rest for most of first tri which was no exercise, heavy lifting or sex. Bleeding is scary for any of us no matter what!! But try to relax!! ❤️

Thanks ladies. Yes dr just called and said it was probably old blood and irritation from today's US. Yes we are already on pelvic rest as well. Hope it gets easier by 12 weeks.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I know first hand how stressful any bleeding or spotting can be. I had 2 episodes and first one was about same time as yours. It turned out to be old blood and irritation from suppositories. Like other ladies said, it sounds like nothing to worry about. Especially since you just had a great u/s and all looked good. I hope the spotting goes away for you soon so you can have some peace of mind!

Glad the doctor called and confirmed what I was thinking, rusty blood is often old, so seeing it right after seeing a strong heartbeat is often ok.
Try to relax, and if you worry do like today and call your dr. They are there to calm your nerves or do a check.
I only have 5 weeks left, but the worrying is there so often. My mother told me nicely that I'll be worrying the rest of my life.

But again, never hesitate to contact your dr, they are there to make you stop worrying!

I'm so sorry you have to experience this. I had spotting on and off from weeks 5 to 8, sometimes light pink, sometimes brown, sometimes watery, once a huge amount of blood all at once. All scary and worrying, but in the end everything was fine (now I'm at 10 weeks so still waiting to finish first tri, but feeling much more confident). They saw a subchorionic hematoma on my u/s, this is common apparently and can cause bleeding or spotting. My RE office said that 50% of their IVF patients who get pregnant have some bleeding and 90% of the time it is not a problem. Hearing those stats helped me feel better. Hang in there, take it easy, drink tons of water and soon enough you'll get through this. We are trained from adolescence to view spotting and bleeding as the beginning of a period so it stands to reason we get freaked out seeing that while pregnant, but apparently it's incredibly common especially among women who did IVF.

@Tulumina Thanks so much! I agree I was so worried but the dr said it's most likely cuz of the US and dried up old blood. Scary but I'm now Better thanks again.

I had a few bleeding scares. First was at about 5 weeks. Then worse at 8 weeks and again at 9 and 10.5-11 weeks. All were fine and I'm now 33 weeks. I totally freaked out each time. How can you not but bleeding is very common in ivf apparently

@BornReady Sorry I've been having such bad nausea for the past two weeks. We are doing great thanks! Baby will be 9 weeks Thursday. Have my first OB appt on Thursday. How are you?

This was today 9 week first OB appt. baby was dancing and kicking away lol nausea is still here but hopefully two more or three more weeks and it's done. Here's hoping lol
