Re: Randoms - Week of October 3rd

  • mskeenan  - when you found your chiropractor, did you look for anything specific when you went, like someone who specialized with pregnant women? I've been thinking that might help with my hip pain and tension headaches but I haven't lived out here long enough to find a good chiro.

  • Feeling like a bad mommy!!!

Literally lost it on my boss (still not speaking to him today) because of a ridiculous client.  I work in a place where there are TONS of forms, and we had a client that doesnt have 1 or 2 easy forms, he needs 20 done, which is about 400 pages to complete! I have no problem doing the work BUT the client tells me I want it done before the 25th?? and for me thats a BIG no-no. I have 50 other things that are time sensitive and he wants me to push it all aside for him?? Not a chance! I tell him its not realistic and my boss tells him, no problem shell do it!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I get so mad I feel my tummy literally burn and all I can think of is my poor baby, can feel how mad, and stressed I am.....Ugh! This mommy's guilt is no joke :/

  • @griffin5413 yes I found someone with a lot of experience working with pregnant women ! I think they are all trained to work with pregnant women but it was nice knowing that he already has a lot of pregnant clients and that he deals a lot with sciatic pain and frequent pregnant lady complaints . In the beginning he adjusted me while I was on my stomach but now makes modifications since I've got a huge bowling ball for a stomach haha .

  • @Adrianac1982 I'm sorry, that is very stressful! I hate that people don't realize that we can't drop everything to deal with their problem every time. I have a few of those entitled folks in my office as well. Don't worry about your wee one, they protect themselves pretty well and it's only chronic stress that can really cause problems in the long run. Just rub your belly, take a few deep breaths and know that you got this, you are a tough Momma!!

  • I'd like to chime in on the chiropractor conversation because I also feel like my chiropractor improved my headaches. I started seeing one about a year ago regularly for chronic headaches. I really recommend finding one who specializes in Gonstead technique. It is amazing! My chiropractor also has a special table that is for pregnant women... basically the middle part drops down with your expanding belly so that you can continue to get spine adjustments.

I have had two really bad headaches since becoming pregnant but NOTHING like I was expecting. Both my mom and sister had chronic headaches through all of their pregnancies and knowing my history I knew I was probably destined to a similar fate. I think the only reason I've been okay is because of my chiropractor!

  • Definitely don't feel bad for your wee one @adrianac1982
Your baby handles a lot, and as my acupuncturist told me: it would be nicer for the mummy not to stress, but your wee one will be fine. If stress was something that prevented us from having babies a lot of babies weren't born. So when you stress, are angry try to remember that your little one is ok, so you don't stress more for him/her.

A lovely rub on your belly, a little lullaby might help you to relax.

  • Thanks for the updates ladies on the baby room thing! My DS didn't sleep in his room until 3 mo old, but I did use his crib/room for his naps so he would get used to sleeping in his crib when I was ready to transfer from the bassinet after 3 months. The baby's room will also be my office until after I have him. Then I will take down the desk and move everything else when I'm more mobile without a huge bump in front of me after he is born.

@dragonfaerie - Glad your manager was supportive. I spilled the beans a few weeks ago to my boss (I was 13 weeks at the time  :# ). He was asking me to do a bunch of traveling and work in the Spring and I had to tell him that I wouldn't be able to fly (per my OB since I'm considered high risk). He asked "why?", so I just told him. He was so happy to hear and congratulated me. Luckily he has twin 4 yr olds, and a 2 yr old. I told him I would prefer him to not share it with anyone else until I was ready to tell everyone and he seemed fine with it. Bonus, I don't have to travel now!! :)

  • @clt2pwm11 I bought maternity pants I think at 9 or 10 weeks. My regular pants (jeans and work) were SO uncomfortable at that point despite not having a full bump. I'm now almost 24 weeks and still able to wear the maternity pants I bought then. The elastic band in them is designed to stretch with you. I say go for it and get yourself some comfies! They are SO worth it to not feel bloated and icky.

I used the belly band for a long time (i think between 12 to 20 something weeks). I think it works fine, as long as you are wearing a top to cover it. Then it started to feel uncomfortable of course. I like the full panel pants now, but I spent all my second trimester in summer so I  was wearing regular comfy dresses and stretchy skirts. I still like dresses over the pants.
  • I love my maternity jeans.......BUT I am not a fan of full panel, i feel myself pulling it up all the time

  • Full panels might not be the best before third trimester, but you can also use Bella Band with full panels before your bump is large enough to hold the panel. I cannot stand anything giving pressure on my lower belly at the moment, so i am only using the full panels
  •  Currently wearing maternity jeans @clt2pwm11 and also 10weeks. So much comfort! I plan to buy maternity pants for work next week when I get paid.. embrace it I say hehe

also chiming in on the chiro conversation, I saw mine yesterday for my back pain and she suggested regular adjustments throughout the pregnancy. Apparently the uterus has ligaments that attach to the pelvis so if the pelvis is out of alignment it can put stress on the birthing process. As for the headaches it couldn't hurt to go and see one, perhaps something is out of alignment and causing the pain. I hope you find some answers soon @AandDM2014

  • @clt2pwm11 I'm 13w and still using the belly band. I fold it in half and just keep it over the button and zipper of my pants. My only complaint is a lot of my work shirts I would tuck in the front into my pants so it's been a challenge finding tops for work that aren't seethrough nor need to be tucked in.
  • To @AandDM2014 a million posts back, I had a spate of headaches last week. It eventually cleared up on its own (whenever whatever weird hormonal surge that was likely causing it was over). In the thick of it nothing helped completely but I found Tylenol+caffeine(+a little bit of sugar, but that's just me for the energy boost) to be helpful for a couple of hours. I know not everyone is using caffeine, but if you're not averse to it, a half a cup of tea, or Mexican coke (which has sugar instead of corn syrup) along with 2 Tylenol really helped me. I sometimes took Excedrin, which is tylenol and caffeine. All those options are well below the recommended daily caffeine consumption of 200mg.
  • Thanks for the comments about maternity clothes girls! I went and bought a pair of comfy leggings tonight, and I'm buying a bag of maternity clothes from a girl on my local fb yard sale page (sounds so redneck, but the stuff is super nice quality and in my size, so I'm jumping on it). Hopefully there will be some good stuff in it that I can start wearing!

  • @cato99 Thanks! One of the ladies on my groups suggested caffeine, so I had a small real sugar Pepsi, then a nice warm shower, and it seemed to help. I totally didn't even think of having a cup of tea! Duh!!! Thank you for reminding me that I love tea, and have some with caffeine that I have been avoiding.

On another note, for the last week I have been triggering my gag reflex every time I brush my teeth. This is not common, I usually have a pretty solid gag reflex.  Anyone else experiencing this? It mainly happens when I brush my back teeth and tongue. Last night it was so bad I actually vomited. Which is excellent, because then I need to brush my teeth again...

  • I've posted this in a few places but haven't gotten any responses... Starting this morning I've been noticing pain in my lower back. More on the left side. It's a dull ache and nothing severe, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has experienced something like this in week 5? I'm hoping it isn't anything serious. Google is telling me that back pain is a common symptom throughout all of pregnancy so I'm trying to keep my worrying in check!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I have a lot of back pain throughout pregnancy. In my case I have a pretty significantly tipped uterus which I've been told impacts how and where I feel my stretching/growing in early pregnancy especially. Maybe it's that?
  • @BornReady I have never been told I have a tipped uterus but I suppose it's possible! I notice that it hurts more when I'm sitting versus when I'm lying down or standing/walking around. I also notice it more when I tighten my abdominal muscles. If it's still bothering me on Monday I will call my doctor!

  • I picked up my bag of maternity clothes today, and I am so pleased! Everything fits (or will fit once the bump becomes more pronounced) except for one dress that I know I'd never wear anyway. I have enough clothes to take care of my entire pregnancy. . . all for $75! I did the math, and it's like everything was $2 a piece. You can't beat that. . . unless you have people giving you stuff for free! I did buy a turkey Thanksgiving shirt, and I will likely buy a Christmas shirt too, but otherwise, I am set! P.S. you guys were right; these pants are so comfy!!

  • 45 minutes left of my 6 hour flight…I cannot wait to be back home on the east coast. Seattle was super nice but I didn't get to sightsee too much Bc my feet have been swollen since my arrival, and sitting in lectures all day for 2 days has killed my tailbone lol. However, since I'm on my iPad using the website, I've utilized this time to add my pregnancy to my siggy.…31 weeks later  ;)
