Anyone else? My doctor said they don't give the rhogam shot unless you have bleeding but that seems too late at that point. And what if you bleed on the weekend? I'm curious what other people's doctors have said.

In my previous 2 pregnancies I always had the shot midway, and another dose at the end.

I remember they didn't test if I was Rh negative or positive until much later in my first pregnancy. So I'm not familiar with the concept of getting an Rh shot much earlier? Could you educate me please

They give you one around 28 weeks and before delivery. Or if you have bleeding/a MC. On the weekend you would call your doctors answering service and they may recommend you go to the ER where they can give you a shot!

With my first, I got the shot mid-pregnancy. Baby was negative so I didn't need one after delivery. With this pregnancy, I'm assuming I'll get the shot early on.

Same as above...once mid pregnancy and once after delivery. If you miscarry or have major bleeding you need the shot within 72 hours but definitely call your doctor

I found out I was Rh- during my miscarriage. I got the shot while at the hospital. Basically- you need it within 72 hours. So, if you started bleeding on the weekend - you would just get it on Monday OR go to the emergency for one. Not all bleeding would require it though- it is only if baby's blood is interacting with yours. You get it partway through pregnancy and within 72 hours of delivery, unless something happens earlier (according to my doctor).

Thanks guys. I got it with a miscarriage as well and at 28 weeks with my son, I just thought I remembered getting it at the beginning of the pregnancy as well. Glad to hear this is standard.

TW- fun fact: I incorrectly remembered my blood type and told my practice I was negative, so they had me come in during the 72 hour period after I started spotting at the beginning of what became my miscarriage bleeding. But once I realized my mistake and updated them, they confirmed what I thought was the case ... even if you are Rh+ and get it by mistake, it's not going to hurt you at all

Being rh- is really not a big deal. I had the shot at 28 weeks and then once my DS1 was born, his blood was tested and he was negative also, so I did not need another shot after birth. With DS2, I had spotting in the beginning but it was a tiny SCH and did not require a shot. I had one at 28 weeks with him and again after birth because he was rh+.

I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks (Chemical pregnancy) that didn't require the shot since it was so early in pregnancy. Then I had a natural miscarriage at 8 weeks (baby was measuring 6) and the RE gave me the shot out of precaution but said since it was so early, it actually probably wasn't necessary. It is really just required if baby's blood mixes with your own.

ETA: just be sure to call your doc if you are rh- and you have any spotting or bleeding - they can determine if you need the shot and will administer within 72 hours of the bleeding. I HIGHLY recommend avoiding the ER - you'll just get a fat bill and aid in the rising insurance premiums in this country.

Rh- here too. Nothing new to add, just solidarity. Thank goodness for medical advances! It would be a big deal for us if the shots were unavailable.
One of my kiddos was rh+ and one is rh- I had shots at 28 weeks and just after delivery with both kiddos. Be careful if you live in a cold icy part of the country to avoid falls that could cause bleeding. Otherwise, not to worry! We are very fortunate to have the medical resources we have

Also negative. I had a shot at about 6 and a half weeks due to bleeding. I'll have another at 28 weeks, like the other ladies said. Unless you're bleeding, there's no need to worry or get one before. And like another post mentioned, you have 72 hours once bleeding starts to get the shot.

Negative here too, with first pregnancy I had a shot at 28 weeks then again once DD was born because she was positive.
