Heart Rate Old Wives Tale

Hello everyone!!!

I am curious from those STM or mom's that already know the gender of their baby if the old wive's tale of faster heart rate being a girl and a slower heart rate be a boy was true for them!?

I have another two more weeks before we will know the gender so filling the time be talking to others will help!

At our 12 week appointment our baby's heart rate was 173 bpm!

Re: Heart Rate Old Wives Tale

  • It wasn't true for me this time.

  • I'm a FTM but when I was talking to my ultrasound tech at my last appointment she made a comment that the heartrate thing was bogus because if they baby is active then the heartrate will be higher than if they are sleeping, just like with us. Not sure how much truth there is to it but it made sense to me. :)

  • Not true for me either. Baby's heart rate has been 160s and we are having a boy.
  • Both of my boys (DS and this baby) have had heart rates in the 140s, so it's been accurate for me.

  • Both of my babes had totally average heart rates (one boy, one girl). I am the control in this experiment.

  • We are having a girl and her heart rate was 150 at the 17 week appointment. I don't know the cut off for fast or slow but I think that's pretty middle of the road.

  • DD1 = 190
    DD2 = 165
    DD3 = 150
    DD4 = 145
    Those were the most common recordings of their birth rates. I almost put more weight on the number indicating the activity level of the child (no medical research or anything, just my oldest is a wild thing).
  • My beeb's HR has been in the 150's each time and we're 99% sure it's a girl (will get official confirmation in 3 1/2 weeks). But I don't think it's actually significant with gender prediction overall.

    Found this...

  • I am having a girl and at 8 weeks the HR was 166, 12 weeks it was 158 and at 14 weeks it was 155.
  • This is my 3rd and they've all always been in the 150's. I have 2 boys and this is a girl.

  • My doctor said the heart rate has nothing to do with the sex of the baby. I'm having a boy but our very first appt it was 160, next appt was 150, and the last appt was 138. Baby was asleep at the last ultrasound so that's probably why it was so much lower. Also, as the baby grows the heart rate tends to slow down a little.

  • If the cut off is where I thought it was at 140, then DD was just above it usually at 145. No sure about this little bean because I have only had one heart rate measurement and I don't remember what it was. Also, we're team green so we won't know for a while
  • Inaccurate in our case!
  • Accurate for both my DD and DS.
  • @finallyhismrs07 that was what I found this mornkmg too as I was feverishly researching (again). My little bean was 180 at 8 weeks, 170 at 12 weeks, and 160 at 16 weeks. Will find out b/g with sneak peek by end of the week so will be back to update!

  • Wrong for my DS
  • I've actually never been told or asked this time around what the heart rate is. Hah.  they usually just say "sounds good" or, "it's in ideal range" and I leave
  • It wasn't true for my first. He always had a higher heart rate. And he is ALL BOY. This go around it's a lower heart rate, so I'm hoping the opposite is true for me!
