Hi all!  New to this site, just got my BPF this morning after TTC for over a year.  I went to the specialist last Wednesday to start the process and BAM!  I am still in shock.. haha

    What does PGAL mean?

    How are you doing?
So far so good... I've peed like 6 times in the last 2 hours but very excited, so happy.  :-)

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: No rants right now, couldn't be happier.  Can't wait to tell hubby and the WHOLE WORLD!  lol

GTKY: What is your favorite gif?   What is GTKY?  New to the site so I dont really know yet I guess...
Welcome to the board and congratulations!

There is an awesome and super informative thread a little further down from this-I know a lot of people are trying to get that pinned to the top.  It has a wealth of knowledge of how this group flows, and answers questions for you like what is PGAL(Pregnant After a Loss), and you will see a lot of GTKY(Get To Know You) threads pop up in the early months.  Definitely check that out and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Glad to have you here!  Love the birth month boards(BMB)!  I've been on several, but September 2011 was my first, and I'm still thankful to know those group of ladies.
  • Here's the final rundown:

    9/29 – 51

    10/1 – 141

    10/3 – 296

    Progesterone 33.7

They said I do not need to do anymore betas because they have no concerns with how my HCG has been increasing but now the worry sets in because I won't have my constant checks.

  • How are you doing? I'm still in shock! I'm anxious to tell DH tonight. And I'm nauseous. My loss was a MMC at 9 weeks. I never lost my symptoms. I had bleeding, uterus it was due to a SCH, not the loss. We had a good heartbeat a week before the loss was discovered. So i feel like I'm basically on hold until I reach second tri.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: My only rant is that I bump from my iPad and it's so difficult for some reason. I also can't  make a s iffy stick. I'm feeling positive. I have an acupuncture appointment tomorrow (was going for fertility), so I'm excited to tell her and see how she change s my treatments.

GTKY: What is your favorite gif? I love them all. BUt again, from an iPad, it's all difficult.

  • @HookEmNelson I still POAS every morning. I am going to try to cut back to every few days now..

@email2ash Those betas look great, but I totally know how you feel not having anymore follow up until the ultrasound.

I just got my second beta back. My first was on the 29th at 12dpo and hcg was 56 prog 23.8. My second was yesterday the 3rd at 16dpo and hcg 565 prog 29. I'm very happy with the doubling time, but still nervous overall!
  • @MKRLTX your numbers are great! When is your due date? I don't know my exact DPO but I am 4w2d and your numbers are higher than mine so you should be feeling strong :)
  • @email2ash I keep reading that the numbers don't matter at all because there is such a huge range, just the doubling time, and yours look to be ahead of 48 hours too!
I am 4 weeks 4 days now, EDD based on my LMP is June 9th. I'm not 100% on my O date either but thats what fertility friend tells me based on signs and OPKs. I think I read on another thread that your first ultrasound is the day after mine. I'm scheduled for 10/25. At least we are all in this crazy wait together!!
  • @MKRLTX Yes, I am 10/26 :) I will be rooting for you and baby on the 25th!!

@JessErinF PGAL means "Pregnant after loss" and "GTKY" means "Get to know you." The GTKY questions are just a fun addition to a thread to give us all a way to start learning about each other. I just picked the favorite gif this week because it's easy-ish and I figured it would be a fun distraction from the anxiety of waiting to see if hCG is doubling on betas and all that. The first week or two is hard for everyone and especially for anyone who is PGAL. I know seeing some funny gifs helps put a smile on my face some days when I'm stressed/anxious. :)

@HookEmNelson I confess I totally was still taking pregnancy tests up until around 14DPO. I finally got to the point where my Wondfos weren't showing any progress and it started causing more stress for me. I was like "is that as dark as they get or is something wrong?!" I told myself I'd test 1 more time the morning of my 3rd beta because I wanted to be able to post a test "progression" with betas for anyone who is curious over on reddit.com/r/TFABLinePorn. I appreciated having things to look at during the "progression" process to say "OK well her test was that dark while her beta was 70 so I think I'm on track!" Now that I've tested the morning of my final beta I think I'm done. I feel like at this point, after 3 good betas and now that tests aren't really darkening, POAS just causes me more anxiety.

But it definitely helped me while I waited on betas. It calmed my anxiety some to be able to say "OK the test today is definitely a little darker than yesterday. That's a good sign!" With my chemicals my tests didn't really darken and then started to lighten so while I waited on betas I mostly wanted to make sure my tests hadn't started to lighten. Just keep in mind that 1 lighter test doesn't mean anything. While I was testing daily to watch progression between betas I did noticed sometimes when I'd test it wouldn't be any darker or would be a bit lighter. And my betas always showed great doubling. I'd assume that sometimes the tests have less dye or your urine more diluted.

  • @NamelessAria I just went out to buy more tests just to get me through the rest of my beta testing.  No shame in the pregnancy game.  I busted one out for an afternoon peek, and I was thrilled to see an immediate line.  This is the only control I have and that's not saying a lot.

Omg I'm so glad you posted this!
I've only had one mc, so I don't think my dr will do betas, but I've been staring at my wondfo this morning thinking "omg I don't think it's darker than yesterday" and freaking out.
  • @mrt I just did the same thing.  I have dated and compared my last 4 days.  I have one more left, and my last blood draw for betas is today, so tomorrow will be it.  Also, I wouldn't normally love this feeling, but nausea has really kicked in this morning and I love it!

Find the positives wherever you can and chin up, ladies!  We got this!
  • Hi everyone!! Congrats to everyone with their BFP's!  We just got ours yesterday with blood work started... now the waiting game!!

    How are you doing?
Excited and super anxious! We actually miscarried over Labor Day weekend so this pregnancy is a pleasant and complete surprise!

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
I'm so happy it's Thursday and this week is almost over.  My doctor is out of town this week but luckily the nurse set up lab work which is helping relieve a little bit of anxiety! I tend to lurk more the post but glad to be a part of this group and get to know everyone!

  • 2nd betas came back and doubled!!!!  Y'all!  I was at 74 on Monday and was 174 by Wednesday.  Totally hoping the supplementing of progesterone is helping my boost.  So incredibly happy!  I'm probably a lot earlier than 5 weeks, but I don't even care.  Doubled betas and a first appt. on November 8th.

Happy to still be here and taking this pregnancy one day at a time.
  • @HookEmNelson By your betas I'd assume you're earlier than 5 weeks but you never know. There is just so much variation in what is normal in terms of actual numbers. Doubling looks amazing though! :)

  • @HookEmNelson I'm sure you're all professional Google searchers as well, but all I ever read is that the numbers don't matter, just the doubling time and yours looks great!!
  • @MKRLTX I have dabbled on Dr. Google in the past and I am refusing this pregnancy.  Your words are so encouraging!  I wish I went in for one more test, but I think I just need to trust my body at this point.

    How are you doing?
I'm nervous, scared, excited all at the same time. Everything I use the washroom I get scared I'm going to see blood again.

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
Yesterday during our family hike before I tested the midwives called for our past pregnancy to tell us they accepted me, I was so devastated as I really wanted the midwives, so I decided at our next stop I would test before I called them back and low and behold middle afternoon I got a BFP, I knew it was a new pregnancy as 4 days ago it was negative. I called them back and they are wonderful still accepting me and waiting to hear back to go for ultrasound for edd.

  • How are you doing?

I'm doing pretty well so far. I haven't made an appointment yet, but I'm wondering if it's okay to ask  for an earlier ultrasound? I had an MMC last time that was discovered on the ultrasound at my 12 week appointment. Otherwise, I'm nervous and comparing every possible symptom to my first pregnancy (which resulted in my DD) and one from last summer.

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I am trying hard on the positive vibes for me and all of you ladies!
  • @email2ash I have asthma. I noticed last year when I got pregnant I had an asthma flare. I didn't really have any more asthma than normal with my chemicals but I've definitely had trouble this time around.

I read somewhere that for some women asthma will worsen during pregnancy. I guess we're in that lucky group.

I also have asthma and find that it worsens during pregnancy. These past few day it has actually really been bothering me, which made me think I might be pregnant. My last one my doctor put me on a steroid inhaler the whole time.
  • Hi all! 5 weeks 5ish days along with this pregnancy. Learned I lost the last one around 8.5 weeks however, it had stopped growing around 5-6 weeks. Happy to be on this journey with you all and hoping we all get our rainbow babies.

    How are you doing?
To be honest, I'm scared shitless. Have been spotting for the past 5 days and can't tell if it's getting heavier or just in my head. No cramping and my betas came back as doubled (although getting another draw done on Sunday to compare). The doctor said this much bleeding can be common or can be indicative of another m/c and the only way to tell is to give it time. She was kind enough to do an early ultrasound even though we knew we wouldn't see the baby yet- she did note the uterine lining had thickened and there were no abnormalities otherwise. I guess I can only take it easy this weekend and cross my fingers this is the baby we are meant to have!

  • How are you doing? Okay, more or less. I keep checking for blood and I'm freaked out that I'm relatively symptomless like last time. Of course it was early then and it's early now.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I got my BFP Wednesday after my RE canceled an endometrial biopsy scheduled for this previous Monday (my HCG was only 3.4 at that point - that .4 made them hesitant; I didn't temp, but my OPK put me at approx. 7-10 dpo). I'm obviously very happy they decided against it! My numbers are continuing to rise (45 yesterday - at approx 10-13 dpo), so it's promising. I have another draw Monday. I literally just started seeing a RE and I'm happily surprised by this BFP! We've been trying for a year (and I just turned 35). I had a CP in April. This will be our first.

  • @DesertDweller I can understand the lack of symptoms being scary. I was really worried over my lack of symptoms when I was doing my repeat betas. Your numbers look great though! I'm 5 weeks today and nausea really just started in the last 2 days. And it still isn't too bad. Same with some of the other symptoms like round ligament pain.

The only symptoms I had as early as you are were my nipples were the tinist bit sore and I was a little more hungry and tired than normal. But if i hadn't known I was pregnant I wouldn't have known, ya know? Like if I hadn't been trying, and testing because I was TTC and knew I was far enough in the TWW that a positive was possible, I never would have been the lady who was like "sheesh I'm having all these symptoms. Maybe I'm pregnant...? I should test."

Give the symptoms some time and my guess is you'll get some. Or maybe not! My sister-in-law said she didn't have any symptoms her entire pregnancy except being a little more hungry, tired and bloated. And she has a perfectly healthy 3 year old now. So maybe you'll just be one of the lucky ladies who is basically a pregnancy viking. ;)

@eahayes I'm sorry about the spotting. That has to be scary. I know I'd be freaking out if I started spotting. PGAL brain is just so hard. But it's great that your betas look good and there at least wasn't anything concerning on the ultrasound. Fingers crossed for you that everything works out well for you and baby! It sounds promising.

  • @NamelessAria Again, you eased my mind regarding PGAL and symptoms.  My nipples are my biggest symptom and occasional fatigue hits.  I also try to remind myself that I was so cocky about no MS and then 8 weeks hit...violent MS up until 20 weeks with my son.  I am so happy things are progressively moving along for you, friend!
  • @eahayes keeping you in my thoughts. I know that blood is so scary! When I had my ectopic over the summer only my first day was light spotting. After that it was apparent that it was increasing each day. The doctor told me some women have light spotting throughout their pregnancy and go on to have perfectly healthy babies. Try to stay stress free as much as possible and have a relaxing weekend.
  • I'm not even going to lie: I woke up this morning feeling strangely great and it's worrying me. Last fall I had something like this happen where my symptoms went away in week 5 and I ended up having a MC just after 6 weeks so this is freaking me out. I know people say it's normal to have good days where symptoms are better but ugh. I'm ready to feel like crap again to put my mind at ease.

  • @NamelessAria those anxiety ridden moments are the worst-- I would always tell my friends the same thing and they would look at me like I'm crazy to pray for symptoms.. they just didn't understand! Fingers crossed you get relief soon and your little one is growing away!
  • @NamelessAria I completely understand the state of being hyper aware of your symptoms.  Find those positives and celebrate them.  I'll be thinking about you, friend.
  • Can someone chime in on my betas for me, please? I had one done on Tuesday at what (according to my calendar) was 14 DPO. It was 15. 42 hours later, it was 37. And 48 hours later (this morning), I'm at 112. So it's more than doubling appropriately, which I'm thrilled about. I'm super symptomatic. But every time the nurse calls, she harps on how low the beta is. I'm staying positive and confident, I just wish I could relax a little.

Doesnt the fact fact that a betas is doubling appropriately mean more than the actual number itself?

@NamelessAria Same way here girl! Just wait it out, soon enough they'll be back! It's such a battle, hang in there :) Sending positive vibes your way!
  • @a2003tiger I needed reassurance with my betas as well, and most ladies here will agree that the importance is the doubling.  In a thread titled "Betas, anyone?" @NamelessAria linked a great site to check out.  Hopefully you will find some peace with seeing the variety of numbers with different DPOs.

*I need to learn how to do the magic of linking*
  • @a2003tiger I would assume that based off your numbers you're not 14DPO. My first beta at 11DPO was 23. I got the faintest positive test the day before on a brand with a sensitivity of ~10miu and I got a negative First Response Gold Digital at 10DPO. The FRGD should read "Pregnant" at 10miu so I'd assume my hCG on 10DPO was <10. Maybe 8 or 9?  My point here is that early on it's totally normal to have lower betas. The nurse who called with my results 11DPO told me it would likely be another chemical pregnancy because my numbers were so low. When I had my beta drawn 13DPO and it came back at 89 she called with the results and said that given the recent beta it probably wasn't a chemical and I probably just had the first beta done really early.

Doubling is really more important early on than the actual number. Pre-pregnancy hCG can vary between essentially 0-5. Obviously someone starting with 4 or 5miu of hCG will have higher numbers faster than someone starting at 0 or 1 assuming the same doubling time. Implantation doesn't always happen on the same day either. I can happen from around 7DPO till around 12DPO. So obviously, assuming the same doubling time and starting hCG, the person with implantation on 7DPO will have a higher beta by 14DPO than the person with implantation on 12DPO. My point is just that a lot of factors go into the actual number. So the actual number just won't tell you much especially when you're not sure when you ovulated.

Doubling looks good so try to focus on that!

  • @NamelessAria, I totally understand all of the factors and I'm considering those. What are your thoughts on this? I was temping this cycle. I got a positive digital ovulation test and had increased watery mucus on day 13. THen a temp rise the next day at 14 (that's why I was assuming I ovulated on day 14). I then had a drastic decrease in temp on day 22, that went right back up on day 23. I was assuming that was an implantation dip. Those two things fit with me being 14 DPO on Tuesday, but the beta obviously doesn't match that. ANy thoughts on all of this?

i know only time will tell. It's  just so hard waiting it out!

  • @a2003tiger I'm sorry if my comment came off as condescending. It certainly wasn't meant to sound that way but I apologize if it did.

    Can you link your chart?

It does sound like you could be 14DPO. The lowest beta reported on betabase for a successful pregnancy was 9. So yours was above that. The lowest reported for 16DPO was only 6 so yours was definitely well above that. I absolutely understand your concern. But I'd say that your hCG doubling and then tripling within 48 hours is a great sign!

  • @a2003tiger If there is anything that could account for the high temp on CD15 such as drinking the night before, temping later than normal etc then I'd say it's possible you didn't O till CD16. If that were the case you'd be 12DPO at your first beta instead of 14DPO and that would explain the numbers.

If you're sure the temp on CD15 is accurate then I'd say you O'd on CD14.
