Re: ***1st Trimester Check-in, Week of September 26th***

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I also understand not wanting to do a social media announcement. I am, but I'm doing a trigger warning with a portion of our infertility story. For one, that will give people a head's up do they can scroll on through if they want. Also, there may be someone who is working up the courage to see a Dr. about their infertility, and maybe my story will help them make the decision. Since this will likely be our one miracle baby, I've decided I'm going to celebrate it however I want! I think I've earned it.
DX PCOS + mild male factor
    TTC since Dec. 2015
Current Treatment: Metformin, Provera, Letrozole, Trigger, IUI
Past Treatment: Clomid + Metformin x 3 BFN
Letrozole 5 mg + Trigger shot + IUI = BFP!
    Beta confirmed 8/22
    EDD 5/1/17
  • @clt2pwm11 I certainly don't mean to put down anyone who does want to announce, you can certainly celebrate however you want! I just personally don't feel right about it. And DH isn't comfortable with us opening up to the world about our IF, which I need to respect. I think it's wonderful that you will be including that with your announcement though!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I'm confused about EDD too. My doctor gave me one EDD, but it does not line up with going by O date or LMP by like 3 days? When I went to my first OB appt. they said that IVF/FET has a different calculation, who knows what that is though. I should have asked. I know it ultimately doesn't matter, because I'll likely never make it to my EDD for delivery anyways, but just curious.
  • @clt2pwm11  I am with you on the social media announcement, when I think about how I have felt with every pregnancy/birth announcement on Facebook for the last 2.5 years  I just can't do that to my friends and family....I know some of them who have struggled with infertility, but with >200 people the odds are that there are about 25 people/couples who I don't know their struggle. I plan to make a post (much later in pregnancy) hopefully before friends tag me in pics, but want to include our IF journey, or at least a statement that makes it clear that we struggled to have our miracle baby so that those whose IF I don't know about aren't crushed, but instead hopefully given hope that it can happen!

@wifeinraleigh28 welcome and congrats! I totally understand not everyone wanting to share their IF journey, I do worry that some of DH family who are more traditionally religious may be judgemental about it but we aren't that close so I can deal with that. I am keeping my use of DE quiet as I feel that this is something my little girl should determine when/if she wants to tell people , and I know it is a newer and less broadly accepted concept

Welcome @ddvj79 - I can't imagine what going through IF with a true anxiety disorder must be like, I feel like I worry/obsess all the time without any pre-existing conditions, you and those like @cmm012 are just extra brave IF warriors to have gotten to this point!

@flanners1 I also started out with two sacs but one never even produced a heartbeat. Just remember that if that baby didn't make it, chromosomally it wasn't able to grow normally. There was nothing you could have done. And your doctor is right, one is much safer. Try to think positively that there is still one healthy baby. I promise it will sting less as time goes on

@wifeinraleigh28 I have been waiting to see you on this board! Congrats on the BFP!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 @BornReady you can find IVF EDD calculators online that are accurate. You can also just count from day 1 of your last period (LMP). That's how they get the gestation weeks. So cycle day 1 for me was on July 10th, so I hit 12 weeks on Sunday!

Use https://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/index.php?ac=ivf and calculate based on LMP. This spit out the exact date that my RE gave me.

@babylonghorn16 I don't think LMP will be accurate for me since I did an FET cycle with no ovulation. I was on BCPs for awhile and then on estrace for 3 weeks before transfer which completely manipulated what my cycle would have been like naturally!

Edited because I just entered in my LMP on that website and it had my EDD as 6/3/17, just one day earlier than I had it to begin with. But since my FET was scheduled based on my clinic's schedule, I don't know which date to use!

  • @wifeinraleigh28same for me - FET w/ no ovulation. LMP dating was accurate. Anyway sounds like you know the ballpark date! They will give you your actual EDD at u/s! There is also a site where you can enter your transfer date if you don't trust LMP. Gave me the exact same date, but might differ for you!

  • **Lurking**

@wifeinraleigh28 I had a similar FET cycle where the RE manipulated my cycle so calculation based on LMP won't work, but I guessed it would be transfer date minus age of embryo (5 days) minus typical follicular phase (14 days). RE basically did the same thing using a little chart and called it my adjusted LMP. Implantation could happen a few days early or late and I think EDD isn't determined until first US when they measure the sac or fetal pole. But like PP said, you're probably close with your estimate. :)

@babylonghorn16 using that website/calculating by FET date I got my original due date of 6/4 :) I had done before exactly what @mrygoround did... subtracting 5 from FET date for age of the blast and putting that as O date. I'm excited to actually get a scan though and find out for sure!

  • @babylonghorn16 Congrats on hitting 12 weeks, that's awesome!! I'm excited to get to that point and feel much better and secure with things. My ultrasound isn't until 10/18 when I'll be 7w2d. I asked if I could have one a week earlier and they said that is MUCH too early (their words). Funny how so many other ladies get 6w ultrasounds though AND hear heartbeats at that point! But oh well. I guess as long as I'm not having any problems (and I haven't been) I shouldn't worry!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 aw yeah that stinks. Had my first u/s @ 6 wks 2days and heard heartbeat... but my RE was surprised we did. I think 6wks might be too early for a lot of women, and they just don't want to cause unnecessary alarm. The wait sucks, but will be so awesome when you finally get to see baby!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 yes its bizarre to me!! BUT i have to believe my doctor knows what she is doing.

I just feel like with all that we go through with IF, that we are/should be put in a different category...Maybe thats just me being selfish

I thought once we had a positive outcome it would be easy peezy, but instead I worry more now because I want to know my baby is okay...

  • I didn't get my first us till I was 8 weeks and I saw but couldn't hear the heartbeat. I think that's because it wasn't an internal ultrasound? Even with an IVF start I still only get the same treatment as any other naturally pregnant couple.  It different country, different protocol I guess?

  • I have been much saner today & made my OB appointment, I just wanted to share a few things that I asked for clarification in case anyone else has the same questions:

    1. When do we see OB  - the OB office said for IVF/FET patients they prefer a transition period where you are seen by RE and OB. So, they wanted to see me at 8wks 6 days (my RE sees me 8 wks 5days). My RE will continue to monitor me until end of 10 weeks or 11 weeks depending on how things go along with OB
    2. First OB appointment they said will mostly be like regular ones - 2hrs long with a lot of "orientation to pregnancy", mostly a lot of genetic testing info etc., with a NP. They insisted that I either bring my husband or a close friend to this so more than one person get this info. The last part will be OB doing US which is specific to IVF patients, normal pregnancies have the NP do it apparently.
    3. They wanted every bit of medical information about me from RE and PCP ahead of time
    4. After first appointment, they generally want IVF patients to only see the MD (not sure how this differs from normal pregnancies)
    5. @wifeinraleigh28  - I know you were looking into the LMP calculation etc., The OB office just asked me to read off the calculated LMP, EDD etc as given by the RE's office. They also said, that they will do some more calculations on their end during the first US.

    babylonghorn16  Congratulations on 12 weeks! :)
ADRIANAC1982 - totally agree with you, I was not very anxious after the FET itself but once I did find out about the positive Beta, I have been a mess worrying and panicking quite randomly.

DH :  36, has Chronic Kidney Disease, on dialysis & is waiting on the transplant list (average wait for B+ is 5 years)

Me:   36, Hypothyroidism, PCOS, BMI 32, need to be done with "child bearing" ASAP so that I can be a Kidney donor (was fun realizing we didn't as much time as we thought :-/ )

7th May 2014 - changed REs, this one seems to care (we think....)

    IUI #3 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 3 follicles (2 under 15mm) = BFN(May 2014)

    IUI #4 : 7mcg Letrozole (CD 3- 7) + 75 iu Bravelle (CD 8-12) + CD12 Scan 5/16 + Had 1 follicle + DH gave best sample so far = BFN(June 2014)

IVF#1 -  ER Only Cycle Sept-Oct 2014, 17  eggs Retrieved, 14 mature, 10 fertilized, 6 made it to Blast & post PGS  5 were not viable due to chromosomal abnormalities
Not sure where we go from here...
