enlarged ovary on Gonal F question

I just had a CD4 u/s & blood draw. The tech said my left ovary is enlarged (which I know is a common side effect)....I'm waiting to see if a nurse will call about it but in the meantime, has this happened to any of you and what do they do? Do you have to skip a cycle?

Re: enlarged ovary on Gonal F question

  • I had enlarged ovaries due to high response on Gonal f earlier this year. It was an iui cycle so we had to cancel due to risk of multiples. The cancellation was strictly due to having too many growing follicles (like 13). Unfortunately after the cancellation my right ovary continued to be enlarged which caused some nasty complications for me.

The ovaries have two blood vessels feeding them. When the ovaries are enlarged they are at risk of rotating which constricts those vessels and starves the organs of blood. Any high impact activity/bouncing can cause this twisting which is called an ovarian tortion. In addition to being extremely painful, it usually requires surgery and potentional causes loss of the ovary.

i had a tortion. It was not fun. Luckily it self corrected and I did not need surgery but my doctor stressed that it was a very big deal. I was put on activity limitations for a month.

I just recommend you be very careful with your movement. It is not something to mess with.
