I finished my macramé project finally, dip dying went horribly wrong so it kind of looks like cotton candy up close LOL. But for my first ever macramé, I am pretty stoked on it and excited to try out my next project: A baby bassinet! And isn't this macramé pattern cover the most terrifying thing you've ever seen? It looks like a Wes Craven movie poster from the 70's LULLABYE: coming to a theater near you and your nightmares this Halloween
DH and I had some time to kill before heading to the airport yesterday. He suggested finding a fabric store & then he picked out some double-gauze for baby blankets (the bears up top). I picked out the speckles. Together we picked out the black and white animals...those are quilting cotton, so I guess baby is getting a quilt!
We went to Joanns last night, and I got some more yarn. I now will be able to trim out my blanket, and make some booties and hats in varying sizes!
Booties are way harder than I thought. I don't know if the pattern I picked is weird, or maybe I'm just counting my stitches wrong because I've never done it before. I've finished one, and it looks cute, but my final stitch count was off by 2 and the back seam is crooked. So I'm hoping I can make the other one match!
My H is the destroyer of zippers. Like every large zipper in my house is broken. We have a nook air mattress that we bought at a store closing sale for super cheap and of course he destroyed the zipper. To buy a new cover is 100 bux. I brought it to an upholstery place yesterday and they wanted 40 bux to replace the zipper, which seemed insane. So I just bought a box of different sized zipper heads from Amazon to see if I can just repair the zipper and not have to buy a roll to do it myself.
I had picked out a few patterns to crochet baby blankets a little while ago. Well I finally went and picked out yarn and got started on the first pattern the other night!! I can't wait til it's finished! The colors are so pretty and it's so soft it makes me happy!
Also, is anyone opposed to making this a monthly thread? We have a lot of weeklies, and I was thinking there's no harm in keeping our projects around for a month at a time.
I see you on @WinchesterGirl I have a question about crocheting. I know that different yarns need different size needles, but does the project determine the yarn needed? Like if I wanted to try to do a blanket, will it be recommended to use a specific yarn type/number? Hmmm I obviously don't really know what I'm talking about, so if I don't make sense let me know lol
@kswiger06 Yes, there are two ways you can decide!
If you already have a pattern you like, it will tell you the hook size, and the yarn size.
If you have no set pattern and want to look at yarn first, the yarn package will tell you a recommended hook size.
So, in the pics below you see the left is the yarn size (3 or light - pattern may have the word or number size). Right square (with the hook icon) tells you recommended hook. It can say a letter or MM number.
Thank you so much @WinchesterGirl !!! (The pictures really helped me too, or i would have had no clue lol) Our vacation is over, the kids are back in school, and I'm ready to learn something new!!
Last night, I finally started a baby blanket for our great-niece, who we are going to visit in October. The yard is ridiculously fluffy and soft: Bernat Baby Blanket brand (say that three times fast). The colors remind me of Neapolitan ice cream.
I have a question for any of you sewing experts out there. I bought some nice little wicker baskets to go on the hutch in baby's room to hold diapers, creams, etc. I would like to sew some little basket liners out of an Aqua fabric to go with my color scheme. Have any of you done this before? Do you have a pattern or tutorial you recommend?
I've done some googling, but I'm hoping to find something that makes it simple.
This one is pretty easy to follow.. Your baskets are so loosely woven that i would actually double over the side walls to put the pattern on both sides so you aren't seeing the backside through the weave.
hold on i have a phone call then i'll try to explain this better if this didn't make sense.
@LinnyAnne10, my DS would kill for that shark hat, he would love that so much.
@MLRocha and @becbec28, those colors in the baby blankets you're making are beautiful.
@WinchesterGirl, the bookshelf with all the nice books and the cute little booties next to it is adorable. I absolutely love the way you have all the baskets lined up all organized with everything you need for the baby too. That setup looks great.

Ps- the black and white animals will make a cute quilt!

If anyone else is thinking about booties, this is the pattern I used:

The hook itself will have a letter and mm size.
I'll take some pics tonight since I've gotten a good start on it.
