Can't sleep through the night!!!

I'm 6 weeks today and for at least the last week, I have been waking up EVERY night in the middle of the night.  I usually get up to pee but I don't think that's the reason I'm waking up.  I just get up and go since I'm already up.  I usually get a snack too.  It's very frustrating, especially during the week when I have to get up and go to work and when it takes me at least a good 45 minutes to fall back asleep!  grrrrr

Re: Can't sleep through the night!!!

  • Right there with you! There is an older "Insomnia" thread on our board where you can read about our collective troubles. :)

  • I'm having this same problem. I work nights, usually from 5-midnight so I used to sleep till around 10am. Since I got pregnant I've been waking up before 6:30am every morning after going to sleep at 1am. I'm lucky that I have the free time to take a nap before I go back to work though.

  • You're not alone. The middle of the night for me, too, means I'm completely wide awake---and for a long time, like, hours. It's definitely frustrating!
  • I keep thinking that if I try and stick it out and go to bed a little later than usual, that maybe I will actually sleep through the night.  But nope, that hasn't worked either.  Before my BFP I was getting up early in the morning and going to the gym before work, but that definitely hasn't been happening lately!  :-/
  • This has been happening to me for a few weeks now.  I wake up at 3, have to pee then can't get back to sleep.  Last night I woke up at 1 instead of 3 so I got even less sleep. :/

Yep. Same here. We literally just got our 10 month old (DD#2) to sleep through the night the week I found out I was pregnant so yay. Every 3-4 hours I'm up to pee. I feel like I may never get 8 hours of straight sleep again.

Eta: the exact same thing happened with our DD#1 and DD#2 (I found out about DD#2 when DD#1 was 6-7 months old) so I don't think I've had decent sleep in almost 3 years.

Surprise!  2 under 2 is happening!  Due 12/5/15 (updated)

  • Oh so it's not just me -.-
I'm having a hard time staying awake normal hours. I want to nap in the afternoon (when I'm at work)  and after I get home from work until SO comes home.
Our normal routine was bed at 12 and awake at 7:30ish, but now I notice I am tossing and turning a lot and I have recollections of it in the morning -.-
I feel so exhausted all the time,  when will it end!  *dramatic cry*
  • Well I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering through this. I was up at 5:20 this morning, and I went right back to sleep. I normally wake up for work around 6:45...so I'm making some progress. I was getting up at 2 and 3 in the morning. So the fact that I made it almost the whole night is a win. Lol.  If only I could sleep straight until then!  We'll beat this, ladies! :)
  • I've basically accepted that I will never have a decent night of sleep again. Once your pregnant you cant sleep and then when baby comes you definitely wont sleep. MY DS didn't sleep through the night until 6 months old.. then he was awake for the day at 5am. Now has 14 months and sleeps until 7am but I wake up several times during the night wondering if he's ok..... mom life....

  • Honestly the only reason I can't get any decent sleep is because my 1 yr old who is still breastfed will wake up throughout the night and latch on lol the joys of bed sharing.
  • So glad I'm not alone, fall asleep and with in two hours I'm back up this goes on all night
  • Same here, which is why I'm checking in now at 2am, although tonight I had gone to sleep just fine and my husband woke me up when he came to bed. Immediately my daughter woke up and needed attention, and then I felt like such hell I had to go downstairs to get something to eat. I've had trouble falling asleep since then so I got up to do work (and this.)

I had the same problem with my last pregnancy in the first trimester. I didn't really have it with my first, though retrospectively I did get up every night to pee in the first trimester. But the difference was I always went back to sleep right away. NOT the case this time or last pregnancy.

In my experience, it went away / got better for a while. With DS it did seem to be pee-related, because as soon as the uterus lifted away from behind the pubic bone and was no longer pushing on the bladder, I slept fine. I don't remember the details with DD but I thought it got better.

All of that said, 3rd trimester was way worse than 1st in this regard. I can deal with insomnia to some degree, but insomnia due to massive discomfort/pain is something else. Not looking forward to the final months of pregnancy!

  • Happening here too. I like to think it's our bodies way of getting us prepared for a newborn. Although I wish it would let us sleep while we can!
  • I have been having the same problem with waking up every night. I get up needing to pee, and afterwards usually have cramps or nausea. I can't fall back asleep right away, so I usually get a snack and some water. I hate it!

  • For the past 5 days I have been waking up between 2-4am every night!! And I have to be at work all day the next day. I'm so tired!

  • Same! Waking up at least 2-3 times a night......so restless! Some cramping as well that is making me uncomfortable. I remember waking up with DD further into the second tri - definitely not this early. I have extreme fatigue this time around too......ready to go bed almost immediately once I get home from work.
  • The last 2 nights I've been up at 4, which is nothing new, but the new part is that I eat a snack (an apple) and then 5 minutes later my stomach is growling as if I haven't eaten for hours!! So then I can't go back to sleep and end up eating something else and then only sleep about another 45 minutes before needing to get up for work. UGH. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one suffering through these restless nights. The struggle is real.
  • Sleep does already suck and it's only going to get worse
