Concerned: bleeding at 8 weeks postpartum

Hi,

I will call my dr. about this when he is back in the office this afternoon, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with bleeding for a long time after birth.  The birth and recovery went really well, no issues.  My bleeding decreased a lot but never went away and now - 8 weeks postpartum - it is actually really strong, bright red with even a little clot that came out. I am breastfeeding exclusively and as I said I never stopped bleeding (and I didn't get my period till over a year after my first baby) so I'm pretty sure this isn't a period.  Has anyone experienced this?  Do you think it is a cause for concern?

Thanks,

Abby

Re: Concerned: bleeding at 8 weeks postpartum

  • Are you on birth control?  I was still bleeding at about 10 weeks and when I went to the Dr they told me it was the birth control.  Haven't had problems since.

I would definetly call your Dr though.

  • Nope, not on birth control, but thanks for your reply.
  • I bled for 10 weeks.  It slowed at around 7 weeks and then picked up again.  I called my dr. when it was about week 9 and they said if it lasted more than another week (week 10) to come in for an ultrasound to ensure that there were no issues.  The bleeding stopped so I never called.  I would call your dr.
  • I'm not there yet, but I wanted to tell you that I only bleed for 3 weeks with my first and I'm almost at 6 with this one.

I would call my doctor though 10 weeks seems WAY too long.  GL and let us know what your doctor says!
