I'm really proud of H. His mom has been acquiring baby stuff to keep at her house at a rapid clip. We are very happy to have her watch the baby, which she has expressed excitement about, but for a wide spectrum of reasons (her H smokes and grows weed at home, she has a bad news brother who shows up drunk sometimes, H anticipates it would cause issues with his SF) we're only comfortable with it happening at our house. Of course, we'll also understand if that means she can't do it, but anyway, H calmly told her that although we're so grateful for her offers to babysit we're only comfortable with it being at our house for at least the first year and she took it well! Score for family communication!
I love my daughter, shes awesome! She has always liked to "do" my hair. It started when she was 2/3 and she would put a billion hair clips in my hair lol now she's able to French braid loosely... then she started painting my toe nails, with her kiddie stuff, just because she likes to do it. So yesterday she asked me if she could paint my nails, and since it's already getting hard to reach my feet for long periods of time, I gave her a bottle of my (adult) nail polish to use. So she had fun, and I got my nails painted. And today she went shopping with me, and didn't hold back to tell me which clothes looked good, or bad haha I hope we have this kind of mother/daughter relationship when she's a teen.
I'm pretty sure my MIL plans to hop on a plane the moment we tell her I'm in labor. I'd like her to come 10-14 days later, but I haven't figured out how to tell her. For now: procrastinate!
I couldn't be more grateful right now to my cousin and his wife. Their baby just turned 1 a few months ago so they must have been going through some of their stuff. They gave us a brand new diaper bag, a wrap, 2 swaddle blankets, several boxes of nursing pads, a couple of boxes of breastmilk storage bags and a few other small things. Some people might not see it as a big deal, but it was to me. I felt like that was really thoughtful and generous of them to give all of that to us. I really like my cousin's wife, she's such a good person. She just treats everyone so nicely. And it's genuine, not that fake BS people try and pull just to seem nice until you turn your back. I really enjoy having her be a part of the family.
I think they ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon they didn't end up using or needing. Or people had given them gifts and they had duplicates. They're also in a position where they're financially able to afford to purchase a few different brands of a bag and then they just picked one they liked the best or something which is what I think happened. I think they actually kept one bag for each of them to use and this one they didn't want or need.
The diaper bag isn't anything fancy, but it's brand new; I would have still been grateful even for a used one! I was seriously going to use a backpack as a diaper bag this time haha I used the one we had for our first 2 kids (that I got at BRU on sale for $70 like 6 years ago) until it literally couldn't be used anymore. All this stuff adds up quick so I just really appreciated it because it's helpful financially.
OMG. My cousin just invited me to her wedding. On Facebook. it is in 2 weeks but has no location and will be at 2am according to the Facebook invite. When I said I couldn't go on that short notice on a workday she said "no problem, this is the smaller wedding. We'll have a bigger real wedding next year" She invited 358 people to her "small wedding!"
I may be a b*tch and a snob but I'm not going to your wedding with 2 wks notice that you clearly have not planned AT ALL. And I think it is a huge waste of money to have your "dream wedding" AFTER you've publicly been married a year and have 4 kids under 5 years old and are constantly complaining about child support (paying and receiving) and how you have no money and can't keep a job.
ANDPLUSALSO the timing of this is super suspect. I and our other cousin are pregnant. She has always had a feud with pregnant cousin and pregnant cousin's baby's shower is this Saturday. Coincidence much?
This is just a step too far for this cousin and really sad.
@gretchypoo a family friend pulled a similar style wedding. I'm a pretty low key person but it was super trashy. The Facebook invite along with the regularly updated links to registries and SOS's for cheap or free services (DJ, photographer, hair and nails etc) it was just too much! Made me glad to be too far away to attend.

I have a rave!! So, my cousin has been a total lifesaver through all of this. She has two boys, 3 years old and 18 months old, and had accumulated allthe things! She and her family dropped a ton of stuff off when they were roadtripping across country, and I couldn't have been more grateful. We're talking full crib, jogging stroller, bouncers, car seat, hamper, high end breast pump, maternity clothes, etc etc.
Fast forward. I got home from work today to a massive box FULL of more maternity clothes, nursing pads, baby clothes and toys--everything. I started crying because OMG. This little girl is going to be spoiled from the get-go, and my maternity wardrobe is officially quite larger than my regular wardrobe. All I have left on my wish list is diaper bag and rocking chair, apart from the basic necessities (diapers, butt paste, wipes, etc)
Not even to mention the advice and reassurance she gives for silly FTM nerves. Seriously. Lifesaver!!!

@jab3 Have you tried to join a buy nothing facebook group? I know there's Buy Nothing Jamaica Plain and Buy Nothing Roslindale. They have saved me so much money and DD loved so many of the toys I scored off of there (not that she knows I reintroduced no longer wanted toys right back into the cycle...)
Wow @grapeskittles4lyfe, thanks for telling me about this! I don't have a Facebook account right now because I'm weird, but this right here is making me want to create one. Do you live near me? Is that why you mentioned those specific places? I'm in Somerville right outside of Boston, MA. Maybe I'm being stupid, but I really don't care about revealing my location. I already have a few times when I first joined this board anyway.

I see it says Boston, so does mine, but I'm actually in Somerville. Looks like our DD's are the same age too! Mine just turned 4 last weekend actually hello kitty stuff is still everywhere here.
