Summer Bday Question (NBR)

Random question here but it kept popping into my head when I couldn't sleep last night. DS was born in early August and I was just wondering what the best way to do bday parties with friends is. Everyone vacations during summer and I don't want him to miss out on having all of his friends around. But I don't really know any other options either lol. Anyone here have summer bdays or kids with one with any advice?

Re: Summer Bday Question (NBR)

  • My bday is in late July and I always liked that and I still prefer it. Gives enough time between all the holidays, as a kid it meant more gifts halfway through the year :) Plus since school was out we never had the stress of having to invite the whole class, we could invite just my close friends. We would do pizza parties, pool parties, once because there was less kids we went to a small local amusement park. I never remember kids being on vacation being an issue. If there's an important friend that's on vacation during the time you could always do it before they leave or wait til they get back.

  • Thanks that makes sense.. I think my late night brain was overthinking lol
  • Heh heh. Been there. My late night thinking "go to" is what I can do to turn my house into a impenetrable fortress.
  • I second @Bok Bagok I have a birthday in July and I love it. My parents were never big on birthday parties, but it was nice because I could just invite  a few friends to a soccer game or something. It was great!

My daughter's birthday is August 2nd and I love it because we have total control over the guest list as PP stated. Her 1st birthday we had as a picnic at a local park under the pavilion but it was hot. Usually it's just a bbq at our house with sprinklers and stuff out for the kiddos.

  • Birthday in late June here with a brother in early July. I never minded a summer birthday but there were always people that couldn't come to the party because they were out to town, which was a bummer. My brother hated it so my parents would throw him a class birthday party the last weekend before school let out and we would go a family celebration on the actual day.

  • Agree with the night brain ;) funnily enough I just had this conversation with my friend who said she has specifically planned to have each of her kids and any in the future in the summer for summer birthdays!  Summers do fill up fast, but I think as long as you pick a date and send an invite early enough- the people that really matter will be there. And as he's older if there are one or two friends he really cares about you can coordinate with their parents.  I have a summer birthday, my DD does--and I think they're the best!!
  • not summer, but i'm a christmas time baby, my bday is the day after christmas, so I never got to celebrate my bday in school, we were always on vacation, and people busy with the holidays, etc, so my mom used to give me a choice of when I wanted my party, I used to pick towards the end of the school year for a pool party :)

  • @mrsnap_515 I've always felt bad for people with birthdays very close to the holidays for all the reasons you listed. Atleast your mom came up with a fun way to make it better.
  • @Bok Bagok yes it stinks! I get jipped in terms of gifts, like "Merry Christmas/Happy Birthday" LOL i hardly ever see birthday wrapping paper hahaha

  • @MrsNap_515  My brother's bday is the day after Christmas too. My mom tried to do a half year bday party for him when he was little, but he insisted that he wanted it around his birthday.

He actually like it because he always got bigger gifts. My parents would do a combined bday/christmas gift for him and were willing to combine the money for what they would normally spend. So he always got amazing presents. We had to split it between the two events, so we got two gifts, but they weren't as good.

  • @RunBooRun yea my parents always overdid it to make up for how my birthday fell, but relatives etc always did the here's one present for both hahaha  it stinks when that was the only time of year to look forward to....my parents also used to go all out with my easter basket too, i guess they figured i didn't get anything until the next christmas LOL

  • DD's bday is in August, and this year things worked out really well because we were able to go up to Ontario and celebrate with all of my family for her birthday. It will be different when she wants to invite her friends, but for when she is younger I'm glad we get to have family birthday parties when everyone is at the lake (and it is too hot to be outside down here!)
