Pregnant after IF

Randoms - Week of September 26th

Have any thoughts, questions, feelings, fears, etc.? Spill them here!

This is a good place to ask questions to a broader audience than the weekly check-ins, so ladies in other trimesters with experience may chime in and help you out!

  • Well had to give in and buy maternity underwear and I must say it is so comfy love them
  • @ultratomato I was actually going to ask everyone about it because my hips have spread enough that lots of my underwear either rides up or falls down. Lol. Good to know it's comfy. :)

  • Yes I got the underwear from motherhood maternity and it's the roll down or over kind it was a three pack.
  • @ultratomato Thanks! I will definitely look into that. I'm going to have to buy some new underwear after Wee Boy comes anyway, but it will be good to not have to go to the bathroom to adjust my clothes. Ha!

  • Hi @dragonfaerie.
I think I would ask her why she became a doula, how she feels about medication during labour (just to see if she supports your descision) how she would involve your DH and if she has anyone else that is due around the same time as you.
Other then that I definitely would follow my instinct...do you feel comfortable with her...if there is a slightly warning sign, or something that doesn't feel right I would automatically cross them out...as that little thing might be a big thing ones you are in labour.

  • @tvh1982 Thank you! We met our first one last night. I really liked her, it was funny because even she seemed a little nervous about her "interview", which was endearing. She explained things really well and I liked that she said we would work as a team. We meet the second one tonight and then we'll make a decision.

  • Hey all! I'm trying to decide how I feel about a comment someone said to me today. One of my coworkers looked directly at my stomach and she wanted to see if I was showing yet. Fortunately she said not really. I'm 12 weeks and announced last week because of my body changes. I kind of don't appreciate the comment, but perhaps she is really interested. Am I over thinking this or being too sensitive?

  • @cmm012 How you feel about the body changes is different for each person, and sometimes different depending on the day or what body change you are referencing (i.e. my friend pointed out "your boobs are everywhere!" and I just laughed, but I don't like being laughed at when I go to the bathroom for the 45th time that day.) I don't think you are being too sensitive at all. Is this someone you can pull aside and tell her that you are sensitive/worried about the weight gain? I don't know why prego women's bodies become public property, but everyone seems to have an opinion and want to touch. Hugs!

  • @cmm012 What a strange thing for a co-worker to say, unless you're really really really close. She may be interested, and depending on her age, she may be thinking about pregnancy, so might be curious...? This past Saturday one of my aunts rubbed my tummy and called me "fatty" in a super super joking way, which of course made me laugh. I was fine with her making that comment, because she knows how long we've struggled, and her daughter is the only person IRL I know who has done IVF, but if it had been someone else, I would have been highly offended. I think a lot depends on how you feel about who makes the comments, how they make them,  how well you know them and how well they know your journey.

  • @AandDM2014 I def think it depends on the person. My dad tells me, almost every day, that I am "getting fat". He means it in the best way possible, he does not do so well when he can't make everything perfect for his kids and took it hard when I was in the hospital. Him saying that is his way of saying he is so happy that everything turned out ok, and he is thrilled Lumpy is growing. (And apparently he is really growing! We are at 1 lb 10 oz already and we should only be around 1lb3oz.)

  • Don't feel bad about overthinking or thinking being too sensitive @cmm012

so much changes with our bodies, hormones are everywhere and it's not always easy to brush comments off.
Sometimes it depends on who comments, sometimes on how and sometimes on what.
Some people mean well, others are plain rude.
Once people find out one is expecting any comment, advice or anything really seems to be OK to tell the mummy-to-be.
If it's not about how your body changes its about anything baby related.

However you feel like reacting on it is ok (maybe not attack them as one sometimes might feel..heard having a baby in prison is a no go.. ;) )

Just try to remember, you finally are growing your little mirical, you look stunning doing so, even some days you might not think you do

  • @AandDM2014 - I agree with everyone else. I think sometimes it depends on the day and who it is that is making the comment. There are definitely some people we are closer to who are just being supportive and others who have are just clueless and don't think. Plus you are pregnant so your emotions are all over the place anyway.
I try to always remember that my body is doing an amazing thing carrying this baby. There are going to be days I feel good about it and days I don't but ultimately all of our bodies are different and its pretty incredible to think that we are growing a human.

  • @vssbrm 24.5 weeks is definitely not too early to make a registry. I've started one, and I'm not even 12 weeks yet. Of course, no one knows about it, and I don't plan to share it for a long while, but whenever I see cool things or think of something I need to research and add, it's available to me.

@ADRIANAC1982 Hmm, that is an interesting thing. I think for me for the first 8 or 9 weeks, almost nothing was that appealing, but now I just love everything! Your body is probably just getting used to all the weird things that are happening to it.

I have a hard time eating (and am 33+5), but it has improved big time every trimester.
Im an extreme case though as I have had severe HG and am still affected by it.
Only just reached my weight that I had before I got pregnant.
Try to leave the pizza for a week or so and then try again...as your tastebuds might just have an off period.

  • So, I know I did a thread about this a while ago, but I wanted to get folks opinions:

I am planning on quitting my job in mid-November, nobody here knows yet. I was planning on giving them a month of notice. However, Boss wanted to check in with me next week or week after about next steps as my pregnancy progresses, so I was prepared to have "the talk" with him a little early. I'm also grooming a friend to replace me so I can say "hey, I'm leaving, BUT I have a candidate already!" Now however, they are talking about sending me to a training (driving distance, not travel) for two days in mid-October as I am one of the senior admins. He is going to want an answer by tomorrow, but I could push it to Friday probably. So now I have to struggle with telling him WAY earlier than I wanted, agreeing to go and then telling him later I shouldn't, or... what? I was trying to think of a lame excuse why I shouldn't go without actually lying, like "sitting in a training for several hours at a time just is not something I am able to do at this point." That reason is totally legit: sitting for that long is painful, I have to pee every hour, etc. But what do you guys think? Do I just bite the bullet and tell him? What would you do?

But then again, when I left my job I gave my boss about 3 months notice because I knew it would take him forever to find a replacement, and for me to then train him/her. I think they would be upset if they sent you, just to find out a few days later that you're leaving.

  • @dragonfaerie Tomatoes totally turn me off now too! Mostly raw ones though, and I used to love them. As for the job, I'm not sure what I would do. Part of me feels like honesty is the best policy especially if you think someone else could benefit more from the training since you are leaving.  If the training benefits you anyway, however, I might go.
DX PCOS + mild male factor
    TTC since Dec. 2015
Current Treatment: Metformin, Provera, Letrozole, Trigger, IUI
Past Treatment: Clomid + Metformin x 3 BFN
Letrozole 5 mg + Trigger shot + IUI = BFP!
    Beta confirmed 8/22
    EDD 5/1/17
  • @dragonfaerie - that's such a tough call! I guess it would depend on your relationship with your boss. You definitely don't want them to spend the money on a training for you. It could be a really great opportunity for you to open the door though for your replacement. You could use the pregnancy card as your excuse but suggest that you think your replacement might benefit from going. You may even be able to suggest that without telling them you are leaving yet and your candidate would get some valuable training at the same time.

  • Thanks everyone! What DH and I decided was that I would say that there are a lot of difficulties with me going including our car situation (we only have one car right now and we carpool) plus me being pregnant. I'm hoping that he will leave it at that, but if he continues to insist, then I will just have to be honest and tell him that I'm going to be leaving.

The training would benefit me to a degree, but the programs are not rolling out until the end of October and then I'm leaving. There's a lot of online training to do so it's not like I will be completely at a loss.

  • Thanks @tvh1982 I'm nervous about telling him because I know he (and everyone else) will be unhappy and this is the first time I will be leaving a job that I like. But raising my baby is more important than any job.

  • I can very much relate. I quit my job tomorrow (but they know since May as all employees got offered severance pay) and I applied) but I felt like an a*hole. Even now when I hear from all different departments that they don't want me to leave.
Sometimes one has to do what's best for the baby, for me it's moving closer to family and leave a secure job, awesome country and friends to have grandparents and an aunty and uncle close by.
Once you are ready to tell and you have told your boss you feel sooo much better, as choosing your little miracle over any job/career is such an empowered feeling.
And they might all be unhappy, but they will understand, and some might even envie you for making that amazing selfish decision. @dragonfaerie.

  • @tvh1982 Thank you, that really makes me feel better. I did have someone a couple of days ago say "we'd miss you terribly, but if you can, I would stay home with your kids for as long as you can. It is so rewarding." It was really nice to have someone validate my feelings that I want to be a SAH Mom.

  • @dragonfaerie I totally understand and I'm proud that you told your boss. I'm still on medical leave with this darn vac. The day I'm supposed to go back is 10/14 to work. I hope this next appointment with wound dr on Wednesday he tells me I can go back to work. Well my work told me that I can't put in holiday time while on leave even though they want everyone else's time by the 7th. And it's based on seniority so I always get off. I only wanted one day which is Black Friday which I love spending with my mom. So frustrating. DH tells me not to worry about one day because I will be off for Christmas time on maternity leave. I guess I'm just feeling like they are picking on me and I get the feeling that my casework supervisor has it out for me. But maybe im just emotional lol.
  • @ultratomato I'm sorry that thing has you out for so long. And it does seem a bit unfair that you can't submit a request for one day off. What a pain. :( I hope you can still get it when you get back in!!

  • @vssbrm you're not early for your registry. I did my registry through Baby List. It gave me a useful checklist when I signed up that I used to build it but I also copied some items from friends registries since the checklist didn't have some items I felt would be necessary. I really like this site/app.

@ADRIANAC1982 I still can't eat some foods, like chicken. It just doesn't sound very appealing to me. I'll have a little and be done with it. Pizza is tough because I get crazy hearburt after any tomato sauces, but I do love it still. I feel like my taste buds stabilized a bit in the last few weeks and I can eat almost normally with some exceptions. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy your favorite foods again soon!

@dragonfaerie I was catching up on posts and was going to offer my opinion on your situation but I'm glad to see that your boss didn't push on the training. Hopefully all will go well when you tell him your plans next week (or whenever you're ready to tell him). I'm sure he will appreciate the advanced notice and it's great that you have someone else lined up to replace you. You have to do what's right for you at the end of the day. Hope that conversation goes as well as this one did!
