Re: Fit Mama Check-In : Sept. 26

  • happy monday!! hoping everyone has a great week! going to be gloomy and rainy here so staying motivated will be a challenge for me!

1: How far along are you!?
13w6d and I feel like it's creeping along lately!!!

2: How was your last week?
Each week seems to be getting better and better, which is a relief. I didn't hit my goal of 4 workouts last week, but I got in 3 solid sweat sessions, and even was able to go for a short run on the road yesterday.

3: What are your goals for the week ahead?
Really want to get to 4 workouts this week. Not starting off great because I forgot my gym bag this morning, but I'm feeling less tired in the evenings so I might try to make an early crossfit class tonight instead.
    M- crossfit
    T- elliptical and arm strength
    W-rest
Th - elliptical at lunch/ squats after work with bar/plates
    F- rest
    S- run
    S-rest

4: How are you going to treat yo self this week? Indulge a little!  And celebrate your body and its accomplishments?
I'm going to a wedding this weekend in my hometown, and the wedding is catered by a mobile brick oven pizza caterer! So I plan to have plenty of brick oven pizza and of course wedding cake!

5: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms?
Random: We told my 10 year old niece this weekend that we are expecting her little boy cousin. She was SO happy and so surprised - she ran outside around the house screaming, then came inside and told me that she wants to go maternity shopping with me, because soon I will have to "flaunt the bump". HA!!  Then... this is pretty crazy: she said "I think his name will be Tobin". And -- that is one name we are considering, either Tobin or Tobey is more of a middle name consideration at this point but.. SO crazy that she called that out 10 mins after we told her! She lives up the street from us, we are very close to her.

6: GTKY: How did you tell your SO you were expecting? (Sorry if this is a duplicate Q for some...I'm tired and can't think of another one  )
Since we did IVF, we didn't have this moment. It was a date on the calendar, we went to the surgery center together not pregnant, and left pregnant! haha!

  • 1: How far along are you!?  16w + 4d !!

2: How was your last week?
It was better then the previous weeks ;) Had hoped to get in 4 workouts despite the backpain, but only got in 3. That's ok. I'm happy with what I was able to do. Food could've been WAY better though... OOPSIE!

3: What are your goals for the week ahead?  Back to a normal schedule this week, but still keeping the weights on the lighter side to not aggravate my lower back!
MON: CrossFit + Upper Body Weights (DONE!)
TUES: Cardio + Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer
    WED: CrossFit + Cardio
THURS: Cardio + Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer
    FRI: CrossFit + Cardio

4: How are you going to treat yo self this week? Indulge a little!  And celebrate your body and its accomplishments?
I'm meeting with a highly recommended Doula this week! SO EXCITED to possibly get her locked down for the birth. I consider this to be a BIG treat!!!

5: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? Feeling so overwhelmed by the Baby Registry. Please reassure this FTM that I'll figure it out!!! Especially the diaper situation... I am thinking to try cloth diapers and when I searched it in the registry I found so many options and add-ons.... Oh man!!

6: GTKY: How did you tell your SO you were expecting? (Sorry if this is a duplicate Q for some...I'm tired and can't think of another one  )
Awwwwww.... well, we had been trying since September 2015 so every month he would ask if I got my period (my period is like clockwork; I get on the exact day every month). Anyhow, we were in Turks and Caicos for a week's vacation and I was supposed to get my period while we there. Friday arrived and guess what? I didn't get my period. Told my Hubby and we both "knew." We decided to wait 7 days before taking a test though.... and when I did, he was right there waiting for the result. So we found out together! XOXO
  • @kjd291 so sorry to hear about your continued pain! It's great that you are trying to stay positive though, and find other things to make you happy during this time! I'm so excited for you to find out the gender! Do you have a feeling one way or the other?

@triwellnessgirl great to hear you are feeling better! And what a sweet story about finding out you were pregnant, getting the hint on vacation in a beautiful place no less!

  • I'm sticking in with this group as it really did motivate me last week!

    1. 15w+3
    2. Surprisingly pretty good! Managed one home workout, a ride on my horse (who did not take it easy on me) and lots of walking this weekend while helping at a horseshow!
    3. I'd like to get two home workouts in - one upper and one lower body - before we fly out to Nashville for our sort of baby moon/my birthday trip! Anyone with recommendations on what to do?!
    4. I had a guilt-free birthday on Friday and indulged in three GF cupcakes over the weekend which was delicious!! Who knows what tasty things I can find in Nashville this weekend!
    5. I'm hoping I hit a magical 16 week energy burst... I may need to revisit my nutrition again though!
    6. Hubby was away on a golfing trip for the weekend when I took my test so I went out and bought a baby bib. When he got home I had put it on our dog and she jumped up on him. He used her when he proposed so I figured it was only fair that she deliver my news to him this time around!
  • 1: How far along are you!?  13w6d - helloooo second trimester! :)

2: How was your last week?
Busy but good overall. I got 4 workouts in, which was my goal...still not eating as healthy as I feel I should be, but I have noticed I'm not feeling super super hungry 24/7 anymore and even better, my energy is back to normal yay!!

3: What are your goals for the week ahead?  4 Barre3 workouts at home - 5 if possible. I got one in this morning and took my dog to the dog park this afternoon after work so I did a lot of walking/jogging around with him, I really miss running though.

4: How are you going to treat yo self this week? Indulge a little!  And celebrate your body and its accomplishments?
Having dinner with with my parents tonight & with DH's family Sat. night - celebrating with them over the news that WE'RE HAVING A BOY! (we'd be celebrating exactly the same if it turned out to be a girl lol) and eating cake.

5: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? Last Tuesday I got my MaterniT21 results back and they were all good! :) We waited until Saturday to find out the gender - DH wanted to do a cake reveal so we did one for just the two of us, and right before we cut it we told each other what we guessed it'd be, and we both thought boy! I had some crazy gender dreams the night before though so I was more on the fence about it, but now the hard part comes of coming up with a name we both like haha so far we have nothing.

6: GTKY: How did you tell your SO you were expecting? (Sorry if this is a duplicate Q for some...I'm tired and can't think of another one  )
I found out in the morning after he left for work so that night after I got home from work I put the positive test inside a box with some tissue paper and gave it to him as we ate water ice together...he knew right away before even opening it what it was haha

  • @triwellnessgirl you'll have to update us on how you like the doula! And don't be too overwhelmed with registering. IMO lots of it is so unnecessary - all that baby NEEDS the first few months of its life is a loving mama <3  re: diapers-have you tried looking up cloth diapering on YouTube? I watched a few good clips when I was expecting my first that helped me decide what I wanted to try.

@jenny0228 I'm guessing boy--but admittingly more excited about the potential of another girl for DD to have a sister. This pregnancy has been very different, so I'm thinking boy though!

@KateM  you should also ask about Nashville in the randoms thread!  I'm sure someone on would have some advice!  It sounds like a great city to explore! Hope you enjoy your get away! And happy birthday!

@serenity13 yay for renewed energy!!! And congratulations on your little boy!!! I'm sure you'll be able to come up with some names you both love <3

Thanks for the advice @kjd291 ! I'll definitely check out the youtube vid's on cloth diapering!! And will let you all know how my doula appointment goes this week!!!

Hope everyone's start to the week is going great! Got my Treadmill 5k in this morning, along with Jamie Eason's LiveFit Trainer program, day 30 (except for the Ab work). I picked up where I left off prior to the back issues. Happy to get back to my weights, but definitely feeling like I lost strong strength.... Booooooh.... Also, definitely starting to notice my baby bump in the mirror as I lift!  OH.MY.GOODNESS!!!!! It's really happening!!!! :):):)
  • Nice going @triwellnessgirl! And go baby bump!!!! I had to get some new workout tops because my other ones were too tight! I don't quite have a bump yet, more just like an expanding mid-section! I got some really great maternity tanks from Gap though, they sort of hide my blumpiness because of the shirring and they will work nicely with me as the bump does make itself known! I feel like it shrunk recently - but I think I'm just less bloated because I've been able to work out more. I work for a major athletic footwear and apparel company and we don't make maternity anything! Sort of strange because the company is making a big push to "appeal to women". I never really thought about it before I was pregnant.

What have you ladies been wearing to work out? Does your regular stuff still fit? I find my crop leggings hit my belly right in the center and I wish they were lower or I could pull them up completely over my belly.

Week is going well for me so far, I ended up doing two crossfit workouts yesterday and Monday!
  • Thanks so much @jenny0228 !! :) I'll need to check out the Gap to see their selection. I recently purchased some Nike tank tops in Large, but the other day was wearing my pre-preggers Medium Nike tank, hence the obvi belly bump ;) Today I wore a Lululemon tank I was wearing prior to pregnancy, and am still wearing all of my Lululemon Wunder Under Crops. I have the high waisted ones, so I'm able to pull them over my belly. I love it!!!!

It's funny that you mention how your company doesn't have a selection of pregnancy workout clothes.... that's a general theme I'm finding in many things. For example, the education and coaching for pre & post natal workouts and nutrition is really tough to find too. I work in the fitness industry, so it's been quite the eye opener for me! I thought I'd share an article that has a REALLY THOUGHT PROVOKING 20min audio interview on this subject. The interviewer is my friend, Adele. She is a certified Pilates Instructor, Personal Trainer, & CrossFit Coach. And she's 38 weeks pregnant. (She was the one who recommended the doula that I'm meeting with tomorrow). The interviewee is a lady who started "Everyday Battles" gym near Los Angeles. She spent 3 years after her pregnancy digging deep into this subject because of how misinformed she felt she was and those around her as well. Anyhow, I'm going to share the link with you all because I really think you'll enjoy it. It made me ask myself some hard questions about WHY I currently work out the way I do, and HOW I'll be working out after the baby.... Hope you all enjoy!  https://adele-jones.com/2016/09/interview-with-fit-pro-brianna-battles-on-pre-and-post-natal-fitness/
  • thanks for the audio link @triwellnessgirl! I'm definitely going to check that out! Maybe I'll check out the high waist wonder under crops, too.... all my crop leggings hit right in the middle of my stomach- not flattering, nor comfortable. I found a brand called "beyond the bump" which makes some nice, basic looking maternity leggings (its more of a yoga brand) - but not sure I want to spend that much on things I can't wear after baby. At least the lulu pants I could continue to wear....

  • 1: How far along are you!?  18 weeks!

2: How was your last week?
So-so.  Had to modify some of my class which is discouraging, but I got my workouts in. For example, walking my feet out during burpees, taking a slower pace with some of the plyometrics, etc.

3: What are your goals for the week ahead?  I want to get in 3 hard workouts. So far only got 1 plus a walk.

4: How are you going to treat yo self this week? Indulge a little!  And celebrate your body and its accomplishments?
I don't know if this counts, but I'm letting myself buy a few "baby things" OH - and I'm breaking out all my best maternity clothes so I feel good about myself at work.

5: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? CONCERN: I ran 4 miles yesterday, which is not typical - I rarely do straight cardio and only run a handful of times per year.  I felt great during the run, kept my pace reasonable.  Afterward (like an hour + later) I had terrible back pain and abdominal pain every time I took a breath!  I couldn't get comfortable and started panicking!  My doppler still picked up a heartbeat, no bleeding, no other symptoms.  But I'm done running until next year...

6: GTKY: How did you tell your SO you were expecting? (Sorry if this is a duplicate Q for some...I'm tired and can't think of another one  )
It never occurred to me to do something special to tell him!  LOL  Every time I took a test I showed it to him.  I tested for 7 or 8 days before I finally admitted it was positive and called the dr!
  • 1: How far along are you!?  14w6d

2: How was your last week?
Good! Got three workouts in with my trainer and then either walked or used the elliptical afterward.

3: What are your goals for the week ahead?  I want to keep up the consistency if possible. Some days I'm feeling dizzy or weak or sore, so I guess I'm hoping for less of that!

4: How are you going to treat yo self this week? Indulge a little!  And celebrate your body and its accomplishments?
Probably destroy a caramel apple. It's the little things.

5: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? Question: What, if any, ab work are you doing? I've been doing some stuff on the TRX but nothing really super targeted to abs and I'm worried that I'm not paying enough attention and it will affect me later on.

6: GTKY: How did you tell your SO you were expecting? (Sorry if this is a duplicate Q for some...I'm tired and can't think of another one  )
He told me! We have a long and brutal TTC history and I swore that I would never look at a negative pregnancy test again. So, on the day of our beta, I closed my eyes and took a test and he went in to go look at it. I'll never forget the look on his face when he turned around holding that stick!
  • Just need to share with people that will understand:: I'm about to go pick up my race packet. I figure i should at least get my free stuff... but it's going to be so hard :'(  wahhhhh
  • @kjd291 Get your free stuff!  I'll be in your shoes next week.  I registered for a 5k run but I'm going to walk it.  BOO!!!

  • Aw, I understand @kjd291 ..... thinking of you!! Definitely take advantage of the goodies!!!

Ladies... I need some encouragement... I'm worried because I'm 17w and have not experienced any of the flutters or movements or popping that many are saying they are now experiencing with Baby. And then yesterday I tried and tried to listen to Baby's HB with the doppler and couldn't find it. I went into a major panic and was on the bed sobbing when my Hubby walked in and asked what was wrong. When I explained he thought it was because I was real low on the US gel and so was using a lot less than usual on my belly... he then grabbed another kind of gel and was able to pick up a faint heartbeat, but I'm not positive it was the Baby's. I'm trying to stay positive, my next appt is Monday. I haven't had any spotting or bleeding, but I also know that doesn't always mean anything. Thoughts?  Thanks for listening. ::::MONDAY GET HERE ALREADY!::::
  • @triwellnessgirl I know there isn't much I can say to calm a worried mamas mind--but please don't worry!! I'm sure everything is absolutely fine! And you just have a stubborn little babe in there who is turned a weird way already giving mama a hard time.  It's totally normal to not feel movement till closer to 20weeks being a FTM--heck, I'm a STM 20weeks this weekend--I felt my first teeny movement in week 18, and haven't felt much of anything since.  Try to stay busy this weekend and keep your mind off of it.  Praying for peace for you, and that Monday would fly here real fast.  xoxo

Walking it is better than nothing!!! Still getting a workout :)
  • Thanks so much @kjd291 !!!! You're the best!
  • Guys. I picked up my packet. I even picked up my training buddy's and dropped it off to her at work and fielded a hundred and one questions about me not running tomorrow and held it all together.  Of course tonight DH asks how I'm doing and makes a comment about knowing how hard it must be because I was really excited about tomorrow and I immediately melt into a puddle of tears.  I'm an irrational mess. Hahah. All my friends and family think I'm nuts to even want to work out//so no one gets why it's so hard to be told you can't.  I'm glad race day is going to come and go tomorrow so I can stop being so depressed about it.

I pretty much only ever have time to creep on TB but I have been meaning to post in this thread for awhile and now I have to post in response to @triwellnessgirl and say 'YESSSSSSS!' to that interview (and anything by Bri Battles).

I'm in a pre/post-natal trainer FB group with her (she's actually coming out with a pre/post-natal certification course for other personal trainers along with Jen Campbell -- who is another pre/post-natal trainer and runs the blog 'Mama Lion Strong' and co-founded the group 'Healthy Habits Happy Moms' -- and Julie Wiebe who is a physiotherapist that will be released early next year) and I would highly recommend checking out all of those ladies as well as Jessie Mundell for prenatal exercise tips.

Educate yourselves on exactly what the core is (diaphragm, pelvic floor, TVA and multifidus) and the related importance of neutral alignment and breathing during your exercise. I promise you won't regret it ;) @Cbeanz and @babyisthenewblack it would address your #5 concern and question

PM me with your e-mail address if any of you ladies want the list of resources on this stuff that I give to my clients :)
  • @kjd291 so sorry about missing your race! It's SO hard! I totally feel your pain, many people just don't understand what it's like to not be able to do the things you want to do fitness-wise! Add to that when you're a runner, running also acts as your mental clearing-house so when you can't get a run in, it makes the emotions extra hard! Good that you got your packet though. I did the same thing in August- I run a local 7 miler every year- I've never missed one, and I was too sick with m/s to run this year. I still got my commemorative mug though!!! Sending good vibes that once the race passes you'll feel better about it!

@triwellnessgirl I'm sorry you're so worried right now- I hope the weekend zooms by to your appointment so your mind can rest easy! The first time they tried to get my LO's beat on the doppler they had trouble then we heard the whoosh of him moving and turning and there it was. So like @kjd291 said, your babe might just be turned away. Also I listened to that interview- loved it!

@Cbeanz hope you enjoy the 5k!

Im in my hometown right now for a wedding. I want to go for a walk/jog but it's pouring rain!

  • @triwellnessgirl - I echo the other poster who said that I hope the weekend flies by for you. Most of my apps and books say not to to worry if you can't feel movement even up to 20 weeks. Hang in there!

@kjd291 - I feel your pain. Both DH and I have had to scratch races for injuries or other reasons over the years. There's no way around it, it stinks! I hope you find a way to treat yourself today.
  • @jenny0228 hope you have fun at the wedding! I agree, staying active & running helps clear my head & puts me in a better mood.
I hate not being able to run now but with my crazy schedule lately, even if I had the stamina for it I simply don't have time for real runs anymore. :(

@kjd291 I've been there too with being unable to do a running event after registering/preparing for it, but at least you got your packet! Hopefully you'll be given the ok by your dr to start working out again soon, and I second @babyisthenewblack & hope you can treat yourself & be proud of how hard you worked even though it wasn't the outcome you wanted.

@triwellnessgirl I hope your worries decrease & hope your appt on Monday comes quickly! I'm sending positive thoughts your way!❤️

  • @kjd291 I’m sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I ofc am not sure exactly what you are going through but would swimming be an option? Stay focused on the positive! (I know easier said than done) Just adjust your expectations. Perhaps focus on upper body? Or just embrace the rest and stretch and relax! YEAH for finding out the gender soon!

@triwellnessgirl That is such a sweet story of finding out together, I can only imagine how much more special that made yalls vacation! J

@serenity13 congratulations on the boy!!!! J

So Im not gonna lie. Ive been avoiding yall. One thing after another I feel like I’ve fallen off the fitness wagon and for some reason. Instead of reading this thread and getting motivated it was depressing.

Well I now am hitting the reset button. Wrangling my motivation and getting off my butt. I figured it starts with accountability so here goes –

Goal of next week: work out 3 times. Hoping for more but setting realistic expectations so I dont disappoint myself!

  • Thank you so much @jenny0228 , @babyisthenewblack , @serenity13  for the encouragement & positive thoughts !! At my appointment now! ❤️❤️❤️
  • All is well!  Doc easily found out nugget's heartbeat .... 146. Praise God!!!

    Thanks again for the prayers
  • Yayy @triwellnessgirl <3 so glad to hear! Was praying for you and your little one this morning! Glad you could quickly get some ease of mind! Excited for you to feel baby's movements soon!!
  • Thank you so much for praying for us @kjd291 ... that means so much!!
BEYOND relieved to know all is well!
  • Oh goodness I missed your post @triwellnessgirl I'm so sorry you had to spend the weekend feeling that way and worrying. We all know how wretched that feels. I went through that just a couple weeks ago. When I had my appointment the midwife actually had a hard time finding the hb too which threw me into a 2 min whirlwind. Then she ended up pushing my uterus down and found lo just fine.

Anyway.... I'm so happy to hear that all went well with your appointment this morning! What an awesome start to the week!!
