How do you deal with nap strikes?

My daughter is 2.5 and isn't napping for my parents who watch her during the week. It's frustrating cuz she always naps for me and she's just so fussy during the week since she isn't getting the sleep she needs. She lies in her crib for an hour but won't sleep. Any suggestions for fixing this?!? I'm at my wits end

Re: How do you deal with nap strikes?

  • I've given up on trying to get my 2 year old to nap.  We just go for a walk or run errands if she seems like she is not sleepy.  Sometimes she will fall asleep in the stroller or car.
  • My son has been doing this lately too. I continue to lay him down at his regular nap time. I usually let him lay down with a book to read. I tell him that he can read it one time and then he needs to go to sleep. Some days he falls asleep and other days he just lays and talks to himself. If he isn't asleep after an hour then I go in and get him up.  I've read that they could be starting to transition to no naps at this age--not ready for that!
