Twin question? (Repost)

Hey there ladies!

We went for our 6w0d ultrasound and only saw one baby, measuring exactly correct. My hormone levels had been through the roof (almost quadrupling instead of doubling) so my doctor had joked "wouldn't be surprised if we saw twins!" We laughed it off but asked at the 6w ultrasound if she saw only one and she said "I only see one." Heartbeat measuring 102bpm. We went back in this morning for a follow up Uktrasound at 8w3d to check continued growth and they found that the baby was growing perfectly and heartbeat was 178.. Even got to hear it ❤️ Near the end, the tech started looking around at the screen and got quiet, then typed a "2" ... And I knew what that meant... I've done my research lol
Found identical twin B yolk sak and fetal pole, no heartbeat, though. 
At first we were just kind of shocked like Oh!! But over the day it kind of sank in and it's kinda sad now that I've been thinking about it. We go back two weeks from today just to check on continued growth of baby A and to "check out baby B" whatever that means.... Any experience with this? It's unlikely that the second baby will continue to progress after measuring two weeks behind, right? What are they going to be checking for at the next US?  Also, maybe a dumb question.. But once a twin stops growing/progressing, what happens to it? Does the body absorb it? Didn't think to ask at the appointment.

    @BeachMommy2B my mother once taught me that if I couldn't say anything nice to not bother saying anything at all.... You can probably see by looking that I've only been active on here for a week or so. Perhaps I'm not sure what I'm doing. And it clearly states repost. There are options for "discussion" and "question" and different boards with different women and different experiences. 

    I'm a realist and know that "it is what it is" until my next appointment but I don't need sass from a stranger. We're all here to connect and help each other.. Not be board police.

    I dont have any answers to you either, sadly... but just wanted to say that you are welcome here and post as much as you like, and if anyone takes offence, they can just ignore your posts.  Your concerns are valid and hope that you find answers and that your baby will progress well :)

    Check it out - most women here say the non viable one will absorb.

    Our baby boy:  Due on 17 April, currently 37 weeks.  I can't believe it - I made it to full term!!!! 
    Last measurement:  3150 gs at 37+1!  This is going to be a big baby :)

    I'm sorry you are going through this, believe me, I know how much it sucks.  I'm going  through it too.  My doctor said it's called Vanishing Twin and either you or the baby will absorb  the other one.  Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

    4/25 - Confirmed pregnancy. Baby measured 1 day behind, FHR 132
    5/9 - 2nd U/S - Baby measured one day ahead, FHR 178
    12/21 - Baby Boy born
    12/10 - FET transfered 1 3BB blast

    @smallanimal thanks love! I appreciate it! I try to refrain from too much googling because I make myself paranoid, worry myself, or get my hopes up. Somehow it feels better to ask people who may have similar experience. That was a helpful article! It's just killing me waiting until the next ultrasound and not knowing what's happening inside my body :neutral:

    @Holzie oh I'm so sorry! It's such a strange feeling being saddened by one loss and still elated that your other baby is growing and healthy. I've ready up on vanishing twin syndrome. I've also read that some twins actually end up "catching up" and being just fine. When do you go back to see your doc?
