Postpartum preparedness

As I was making my list of things I will need to pick up for after baby is born, I was having a little bit of trouble remembering what I needed after DS, so I figured we could do a post especially for ftm who might be wondering and stm+ who may need a refresher. STM feel free to weigh in on what you needed and what you didn't, as well as what you plan on getting this time.

Lucie's list has some really good and thorough articles on this as well as recommended shopping lists!  I'd recommend that, as it's what I've used to stock up and start to prepare.

edited because TB is f-big with me... hopefully this doesn't become a duplicate or something now.

I second these - especially the Tucks. They were a god send. Along the lines of the baby, I'd recommend some gas drops and vaseline.

These post are reminding me that I really need to make a list/shop...

  • What are tucks?
They are witch hazel pads you put on top of your pad or in depends to help the healing process. For me, they alleviated pain though I'm not sure if that's their actual function.

  • For baby I would say gripe water(son had colic and this saved us), Vaseline(if you plan on circumcising), butt paste and a few different options for pacifiers. For mom I would get some big girl panties, pads/depends, nursing pads, comfortable camies(if you plan on nursing), ice packs (you will get a few from the hospital) I always got my nursing bras after my milk came in so they fit properly.
  • Oh yea for baby I really liked coating their bum in vaseline at all times.  Made changing diaper really easy. I still coat ms bum at night just in case he poops.  If he does and he doesn't wake me up there's either very little or no diaper rash the next day.
