Infertility

Delayed newbie post

Hi all,

I've been active in the Sept/Oct IVF for a couple of weeks but thought I should introduce myself properly here.

I'm 32 (almost 33) and am in the middle of our first proper round of IFV. My partner is healthy and normal, all the issues lie with me!

It all started a bit over 3 years ago with an abnormal pap smear. Fingers crossed the high grade abnormalities (no cancer) were all sorted out with a couple of LETTZ/LEEP surgeries.
That took over a year and then we got the all clear and I stopped taking the pill, and my period never arrived. We were really lucky that my doctors took me seriously and got all the blood tests done after 3 months. By the time we had been "trying" for 6 months we were at fertility specialist with a PCOS diagnosis. I'm slim and have always had a fast metabolism but in some ways that makes PCOS even harder to "treat". If I went paleo or super low carb like many people advocate I'd drop below fertile weight really quickly!

Anyway, the specialist sent me off for more tests and discovered what he thought was a infected/blocked tube. The keyhole surgery revealed that was just a tube filled with benign cysts. With all of that over and clear tubes we started monitored cycles on Letrozole. That led to a big fat nothing over 6 cycles (apparent ovulation most months but no BFP results).

We had our first attempt at IVF in July which was cancelled before transfer due to a lead follicle taking all the attention.

Now at stim stage of our second attempt (technically still first round) and hopefully ER this Friday! Excited for the possibility of success and moving forward, but also terrified they will find more problems with me.

I'm already finding this community really useful and supportive. I'd joined a couple of facebook groups a while ago but they never worked for me. It's great to have people to talk to about this who actually understand.

Thanks :)

Re: Delayed newbie post

  • @Nellin welcome to the fun and sorry you find yourself here!  I especially wanted to say hi because we have very similar journeys (lean PCOS over here, multiple unsuccessful IUI rounds - both Clomid and Letrozole - and thankfully DH is A-OK).  I am also in my first IVF cycle, only on day 3 of stims so a few days behind you.  What was your IVF protocol if you don't mind my asking?  I'm currently on just 150mg of Follistim because I have high AMH and my RE is really concerned about OHSS.  Eventually I will be doing Ganirelix and then HCG trigger if all goes well.

Good luck with your ER on Friday!  Fingers crossed for you!

  • Welcome! I just had my very first round of IVF in August, so we are not far apart. I am hoping you are feeling fine on all the meds and that your retrieval is very successful. Honestly after a year TTC + failed timed meds + failed IUIs, IVF is like a big beacon of hope in my life- FX for you too :)

  • Thanks @Esperer. I'm the same, high AMH worries about OHSS. I'm on 150 menopur but my first round was only 75 menopur and 25 purogen which clearly wasn't enough!

@omarismyhomeboy Thanks! It is great to be moving forward. Even if this round doesn't work at least we will have more information!
