I got some apple cider in my CSA basket today (probably not pasteurized) - Thoughts? Same rules as other stuff, ie. heat till steaming/boiling? Or, just let DH drink it all?
Ok so I'm leaving for Disney World this weekend. We are taking our 3yr old for the 1st time. Well I booked the trip before I was pregnant and now I'll be 19 weeks when we go. I've looked at all the rides that say you shouldn't ride if pregnant and I'll obviously avoid things like major roller coaster and Tower of Terror, but do I really have to avoid the Speedway cars that you get to drive in Magic Kingdom and the water raft ride in Animal Kingdom??? Those are some of my favorites. I have already spoke to my dr and he didn't really go into detail about what I should or shouldn't do so I was hoping maybe some of you ladies have been to Disney while pregnant.
i just did DIsneyland. The great thing about Disney compared to other parks there are more rides you can do, when I talked to my doctor they said if it safe for all ages it is safe for me. So that is how I did it, if little kids can go on it so could I. My doctor was happy I was going to Disneyland not Disneyworld, she was recommending to all of her patients to just stay out of Florida if you can since that is the only place in the continental USA where Zika has been transmitted by flies. Also other fun pregnet activities including eating, I loove epcot's food and taking pics with the characters, that was a lot of fun.

Just facebook messaged the farm to see if they treat the cider (hoping for UV at the very least)... I could really go for a glass of cider.

I plan to drink unpasteurized apple cider from farms I am familiar with this fall. That said, it's delicious warmed up anyway so there's really no downside to heating it. Do what you're comfortable with.
@ladyoriza I really liked The Good Girl. Office Space and Friends With Money are another couple of good ones. She was absolutely typecast though, no doubt about that.
@FishyMom Mint is a great color and I would consider it neutral.
So this is a Random Bitchfest. I have epilepsy. It's very well controlled; I've only had one stereotypical seizure (with visible twitching and unconsciousness). Those are called grand mal or tonic clonic seizures. Had one 6 years ago while driving, started medication, been 100% controlled for over 5 years now. During the first 6 months I had the occasional 'breakthrough' seizure, or simple partial, which honestly is more like a hallucinatory trip than anything. They are even enjoyable as they happen.
I've successfully decreased my dose over the years from 1500mg to 500mg. It's been so well controlled for so long, I was beginning to think I might be able to try going medication-free after the birth.
I had a breakthrough seizure last night, a fairly intense one. I have a 1-5 pt rating, and this was a 3. Me:
and then today I had another, a 2 pointer. I knew this was possible, something like 30% of pregnant epileptics have an increase in activity and must increase their dose. But GRRR!!
Sorry, I'm just getting caught up here. @Lafreeman21 I'm so sorry about your seizures! I don't know very much about them but they scare me. My very close friend has the disorder and I know she's doing well right now. Do you lose consciousness even during the partial ones? What are the restrictions for driving, now?
Also, regarding apple cider. I feel like it's more expensive this year. What's up with that? Or is it just my imagination? Went to target and it was $5 for a gallon. I could have sworn it was cheaper in the past.
About Jennifer Anniston. I love her!! I felt like she typically played romantic comedies or strictly comedies but oh well, I like those kinds. Then I saw her in cake, and although it wasn't my favorite movie it changed my view on her acting skills. I've never heard of the good girl, I'll have to look up a trailer.

I remember always paying around that last year and this is the same around me.

I have been purchasing local unpasteurized cider, and drink it without boiling. But yes--same as other things-the recommendation is to boil it first.
opinions please.... is the color mint gender neutral??
I would say yes! We recently painted our extra room (which is now going to be babies room) a greenish/grayish color. Depending on the light it looks more mint at some times. Either way that is the color we are leaving the room and it was going to be used for boy or girl.
@Afkash in the Northeast at least, it was a bad year for apples due to a late frost that killed off many buds plus a drought in some states. I know most our country's apples come from the Northwest, but maybe it was enough to impact overall prices.
So I am considering doing a mint accent wall for the crib with gray furniture. If it's a girl then it will be paired with coral or pink and if it's a boy it will be paired with navy.

@AfKash you stay conscience during partial seizures; imagine having a 15-20 second daydream forcibly take over what you're thinking about, to the point where you have to focus to see and hear what's going on around you.... that's what my most intense partial seizures are like. It's probably about 5% more distracting than texting and driving, and 8000% less common.
Driving varies by state, but here it's no driving until > six months of control. My doctor said this qualifies as a 'temporary medical condition', so he isn't revoking my approval unless the dosage change doesn't correct it. Some states are rough; In Oregon, epileptics are reported to the dmv by their doctor, and a medical certificate must be completed every 6 months to keep your license, forever.
@Lafreeman21 omg. That's harsh. I mean, I understand why they do it, because you don't want someone to have a seizure while driving and possibly cause harm to others, too. But that's tough to deal with as the patient.
In my work, I've dealt with patients who get seizures but never really understood it. We had a patient once who had numbness in his arm. Poor guy was so scared that his brain tumor had returned but it turned out it was a partial seizure of some sort. It's crazy that even with a disorder like this, there could be something worse, still.
I hope your seizures get under control very soon, @Lafreeman21! T&P's to you!!
Epilepsy is not fun. I have a mother who has it, my sister has it, and when I was 21 I had my first seizure and was diagnosed with it. My neurologist at the time stated it was very likely hereditary which scares the hell out of me bringing a child into the world, I mean I know some people who would think I was a bad person knowing the risks of my child developing it and choosing to have children anyway. I'm mostly thankful that mine were never serious and only considered complex partial(I sleep walk more or less). My mother and sister were and are the ones who have had very severe tonic seizures, I've seen my sister do some scary stuff when she gets one, two Christmases ago she fell in the mall face first and fractured a good side of her face. I really do cross my fingers and hope that maybe my husband's genes are strong enough to knock any potential epilepsy from our child, because I won't lie, there are times when I've wondered if I've made the right choice to have a child.
@Lafreeman21 I really hope your seizures calm down, I have a friend who used to be awake for her seizures when she was growing up and she told me how terrifying it was. You'll be in my thoughts for sure. As for your driving laws, WOW, it's way more lax where I am; essentially after a seizure you're barred from driving for six months, and you don't even have to go in for any kind of test when the six months is up to prove you're okay. I asked my doctor when she said I booked an essentially pointless appointment the last time it happened to me whether or not it was like the "honor system" and she told me, "essentially yes it is." She went on to say if I hadn't said anything about having a seizure in the first place I would have been able to keep driving. It was hella bizarre to me.
@BeckS13 it's not right for anyone to judge you because you choose to have kids despite having epilepsy. I'm sure you're a great mom and will do the best to take care of your child. I mean there are a lot worse scenarios that I've seen where I've been like "she should not be allowed to have kids." But even then it's not my place to say. So please, don't feel bad or guilty or wonder what other people are going to think/say. I pray that your child and any other future children do not inherit this or any other awful disease.
So apparently the purge happened in Charlotte last night. Protestors were lighting semi trucks on fire and robbing stores and it was all in university city where UNCC is. But somehow there are people on my Facebook who are angry at the police for using pepper spray to control the crowds because it was a "peaceful" protest?
I'm behind so I'm trying to cover some posts I missed.
I am obsessed with Shameless. I've watched all 6 seasons this summer. Lip is my favorite and DH knows of my huge crush on him.
Has anyone seen The Good Girl with Jennifer Anniston? It really changed my opinion of her acting but it's really the only thing I've loved her in.
I think mint green I'd definitely neutral. You could always pair it with something more specific once the baby is here.
We are also obsessed with Shameless! Just finished season 6 and season 7 premieres October 2nd!
I love The Good Girl. It was nice to see her in a different role. I also am obsessed with Jake Gyllenhaal AND while I absolutely hate my name, Jennifer Aniston's character has the same name as me. It's not common so it was weird to hear for a whole movie haha
@scifichick09 our state fair is in October and they always have crazy fried food stuff every year. I cannot wait!! This years award winning fried food list includes:
Fried jello cookie fries Fried bacon burger dog slider fried pulled pork fried pot pie and fried chicken and dumplings
these are the crazy ones for the year. They have normal fried goodness too! I love the fair!
I CAN'T WAIT to try the fried jello and cookie fries. I am so excited!!! lol
@WinchesterGirl yes! I have friends who live in Charlotte that came back home to stay with family because they felt so unsafe. According to the news, a black officer shot a black man whose family claimed he was unarmed but they recovered a weapon from the suspect. So protestors went crazy.
I I don't know about you, but when I feel there is an injustice is being done, my first instinct is not to go steal some electronics from Walmart.

LOL, well we have the same name then what are the odds?? I used to dislike my name growing up but I don't mind it so much now. I kinda like it, actually.

@LivingLaVidaGinger Details are still coming in on the police killing of Keith Lamott Scott. He was not suspected of any crime and was reported to be reading a book in his car, waiting for his child's school bus. The situation in the US right now is horrible and the powers that be seem intent on pushing black people past the breaking point. Judge not.
@LivingLaVidaGinger I live not far from Charlotte and we didn't hear about it until the news last night was already reporting the protests. It's really scary that it's so close. And I also don't understand the crazy protesting. Not only did they destroy property and loot but also blocked a major highway. I wouldn't put myself in front of vehicles going 80mph just to protest something. It's sad when anyone dies like that. Period. But all this craziness that people think they know what happened minutes later when they were nowhere near the scene just blows my mind. And making it into something it's not isn't helpful for anyone. Let the investigation do what it's supposed to do.
