So I know that this board is for September 2016 Mama's but I have a question for those of you with older childern as well... My due date is this Sunday meaning that hopefully one day very soon I'm going to have a newborn in my house. However my daughter that will be 17 months on sunday has a wonderful new habit of not wanting to take a nap. She has been on a one nap a day schedule since she was like 9 months old and slept about an hour sometimes a little over very consistently up until like a week and a half ago. Her bed time hasn't changed, she hasn't been sleeping in, she puts herself to sleep at night without a peep still, but nap time comes and she whines in her crib for a good hour before she actually will lay down and sleep. I tryed moving her nap a little laterm in the day but she did the same thing and if I give in and she skips it all together she's a mess before dinner time hits and I want to pull my hair out. Im not really sure what to do? I feel like she obviously needs the nap if she can't make it to bed time and I don't really want to make that earlier since then she wakes up earlier as well.. someome tell me this is normal and she's just testing her independence/ limits and it will just be a phase?! Anyone have older childern that did this? Advice?! I would have posted in April 2015 but it's dead over there now a days.. no post or responses since like June. Sorry! Figured Ide ask here since Im praying it's worked out before her sibling arives like any day now.

  • My daughter is a little older but any time she starts refusing a nap I move her bedtime a little earlier and things fall back into place after a few days with the nap, then I move her bedtime back. Good luck!

  • My 15 month old did this the week before I was due. It was just a phase with him and now he goes down just fine and he even goes to bed earlier and wakes up later now!
  • Seems pretty young to be cutting a nap, so I'd say a phase. What I did when my kids did stuff like that was tell them we were having "quiet time" and they had to be in their room and I didn't want to hear them, lol. That way they would get some rest, even if they didn't sleep, and I would get a break.

  • My friend did a clever thing when her second was born. Her Oldest had to be quiet in her room for 30 minutes, then she could 'earn' one episode of Curious George on Netflix.  Her daughter also had the option of earning a 2nd curious George with another 30 minutes of quiet time right after the first 30 minutes of quiet time.  Her daughter was older... 3 1/2 I believe... But something similar might work.  She got anywhere from 1 to 2 hours of break time from her oldest.

    Might be worth a shot!!
