April 2017 Moms

Another sleepless night....

I'm so annoyed!  So the last 2 nights I've been unable to sleep comfortably.  The 1st night was because I woke up to potty and couldn't go back to bed.  Last night, I kept tossing and turning because I couldn't get into a comfortable position.  I'm so used to sleeping on my belly and now that I can't, all I can think about is..."don't squash the baby".

Anyone else having trouble sleeping?

Re: Another sleepless night....

  • I still sleep on my tummy and did for most of my last pregnancy as well :) my doctor told me baby would be fine.... That being said... I have also been tossing and turning and finding it hard to not be restless! Yawn!

  • I usually do ok until about 2am when I have to wake up to use the bathroom and then it takes me a long time to fall back asleep so I wake up for the day at 6am exhausted already.

  • @shaunessa you can still sleep on your belly for a while. basically until it becomes uncomfortable. Right now the uterus more than likely isn't even above your pelvic bone so no chance of smashing baby :)

I slept on my belly with #1 probably until i was about 18 weeks, then it just wasn't comfortable.

  • Sleep on your stomach girl!!! Your body will tell you when you no longer can. Once your belly gets too big, you won't be comfortable and you won't be able to. My friend slept on her belly until about 17 weeks with twins. Get your sleep!!!
  • I'm with you. Not sleeping well because I wake up to pee and can't go back to sleep. I actually slept on my belly for awhile and now I can't because I'm so bloated. Wish I could find a good position too.
  • I too am used to, at least, falling asleep on my belly. It has been uncomfortable for me to lay on my stomach since I was 5 weeks. How unfair is that!? My doctor gave me a handout thing yesterday that said, "Healthy pregnant women may safely sleep on their backs! Significant decrease in blood flow due to back-sleeping would cause faintness and shortness of breath in the mother before affecting her baby. If you are comfortable resting on your back, your baby is comfortable too! Rest well!"  How awesome is that! I remember people being so concerned that I was sleeping on my side with DD. Now I am just going to show them that little paper and be on my merry way.

  • Whaaaa??!! I can sleep on my belly?  I'm definitely going to try that tonight.  I'm literally running on fumes!

  • I slept on my belly until I popped with DS at 26 weeks and it got uncomfortable. Get that beauty sleep, girl!

  • @mrsstuessy That is great news for me because I am a fervent back sleeper and every time I try my side I can't sleep!

  • @mrsstuessy You just made my day! I'm mainly a back sleeper these days and trying to sleep on my side more has caused me to toss and turn most nights.
  • I agree with the others.  Sleep on your belly if you are comfortable.  Soon it won't be...and if you plan on breastfeeding you probably won't be able to sleep on your stomach then either.

I am up every 2-3 hours to pee.  It's ridiculous.  I am not sitting there drinking all night long, so it's really annoying!
  • Have you thought about a body pillow or pregnancy pillow? I started using a body pillow and have been sleeping MUCH better! I'm a tummy or flat on my back sleeper as well and I am trying to train myself to be a side sleeper!

Yes sleep on your belly as long as you can!!!  With my last pregnancy when I was
8m prego I dug a hole in the sand just so I could lay on my belly on vacation :).   Get as much sleep on your belly as you can, if you're like me it will still be s while even after the baby is born because your boobs are big and swollen from milk!

Get yourself some big pillows!! They have been a lifesaver during my last 4!  I would use one behind met back to help prop, between my legs, and by my belly
  • I, too, have been waking up every night around 2 am and cannot fall back asleep. I try to go to the couch or guest room so It's a chance of scenery and I'm not bothering DH, but nothing works. It's getting to be so frustrating. I seem to fall back asleep about 30 minutes before my alarm rings.

  • I second the tummy hybrid position @Rileypie.

I used it was DS dor pretty much my whole pregnancy  and have even found it comfy already. I got a giant body pillow from target and pretty much took over the bed.

This is exactly what I was about to say.  I love my body pillow and hug it like Rileypie's picture.

  • I must say: I love my midwife. She always makes me feel like I can do anything, because my body knows how to keep my baby safe. I asked her when to stop laying on my belly: When it's uncomfortable. What about my back?: I'll start to feel uncomfortable before the baby and I'll naturally want to adjust. As a FTM, this type of advice is insanely comforting.

I'm suffering along with you ladies that wake up to pee at 2 and cant get back to sleep to save my life... Until about 20 minutes before the dogs insist it's time for breakfast, hours later. I'm so tired all the time. I don't know how mom's work full time and handle pregnancy, because I'm almost sure I couldn't.
  • I can't sleep. I am so nauseous at night :(

It's hard, really hard! I work full time, am pregnant (stupid morning sickness still), and have a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Basically when this baby comes, sleep is going to be non existent. Yup, I'm screwed.

  • I have a body pillow that would help tremendously if it didn't make me so darn hot! I wake up sweaty and miserable...and then at some point in the middle of the night I throw my body pillow on the floor without even knowing it. I am so ready for winter!!!

  • I am so with you. Besides belly sleeping, I still do that when I CAN sleep. But once I'm up to pee, its over. Woke at 2 am and have been tossing since and finally gave up at 6:30. I guess my body is getting me ready to have a babe where I'll be running on fumes anyhow.
  • @CactusGirl I am thinking the same thing!  I work 4 10 hour days with an hour commute each way and have an active 11 month old who I take care of when not working as DH and I work opposite shifts!  The exhaustion is already kicking my ass, I can't imagine what it'll be like with a newborn!
  • @cactusgirl, not gonna lie, it has been rough lately! I have a 2.5 year old DS that just goes and goes and goes constantly plus I work FT (8-5). I am praying that after I am out of first tri that I will feel a lot better and my energy will be back and it won't be so bad. I was actually laying in bed exhausted last night thinking "how the heck am I going to do this with a newborn too?" and about ready to cry. Little nervous.
