This is the weekend chatter thread to... you know... talk about pregnancy and stuff. Wondering what everybody's opinion on doctors vs midwifes vs doulas? Find a good cure for something that's been ailing you? Just had one of those "holy smokes I'm GROWING a HUMAN like it's a potted plant or something, but INSIDE MY BODY" moments? Have a rando ask when the baby is due and you're like, "Wait, I'm not even showing yet, not sure if I should be polite or rude at this point"? Whatever comments or stories or questions or etcetera you got that don't quite fit into the other organizational threads, this is probably the spot.
I'm going to be gross for a second. I've been eating a bowl of raisin bran every night before bed to help with constipation (plus it sounds really good) and let's just say after my most recent trip to the bathroom, I am relieved.
I got together with a friend I haven't seen in awhile and broke the news that I'm knocked up. She asked how I was feeling and I told her I have HG and am on three different anti-nausea meds because of weight loss and that I can't function without them. She then proceded to say, "when my sister was pregnant, she swore by eating saltines in the morning.. have you tried that?" I almost slapped her.
A good friend of mine from high school went for a 3D ultrasound yesterday to find out what they're having and found out they're having twins! Twins don't run on either side of the family so they were especially shocked And it's one of each so they're pretty happy with that!
So I posted the long story about my first appointment/ultrasound in the appointment thread. DH wanted to come to this one to see the baby and also be there in case something was wrong. They don't routinely schedule 1st trimester ultrasounds, but will usually schedule one if the mom really wants one. So, I requested one because I was PGAL nervous. I got one scheduled no problem. My midwives are awesome! The other reason I didn't tell them is because DH has been going on about how it is twins since I gave him the pee stick. I needed to see for myself and hear from someone else that there was only one and I needed him to see it too so he would shut up about the whole thing. For him it was just a funny thing and he genuinely would LOVE twins. For me to was seriously causing anxiety every time he brought it up because it would be really heard for me to absorb the idea of twins. I would obviously deal with it, but the unnecessary anxiety was annoying. It was only one in there and I was SOOOOOOOOOO happy and now he can finally shut up about it.

@clover28 OMG the people who think HG can be handled by some crackers and ginger ale are the WORST. I commend you for your restraint in not slapping her!
Could be TMI for some... I paid for 12 brazilian waxing sessions 3 days before my BFP. Now I'm trying to decide if I should keep using them now, or save them for next summer since they don't expire. I also need to google waxing positions for 2nd and 3rd tri. It's only a 20 minute appointment, but sometimes laying on my back is terribly uncomfortable.

I say go for it! Better than taking care of it yourself I got a brazilian 3 days before my induction (for pre-e) with my first baby. If you start to get uncomfortable, just let them know and they can help you find different positions to lay that they can work with.
We have free flu shots at my office today...I already left a voicemail with my OB to check if it's okay in the first trimester, but I'm curious to hear if anyone else has or is planning on getting a flu shot soon.
Anyone other first time moms around 11 weeks and not showing at all yet? I know I will probably be kicking myself for saying this in a few months, but I keep seeing pictures of cute little bumps at 11 weeks and my stomach is still exactly the same as it was before. I am 5'6 so not super tall but not short either. I have lost about 5 lbs due to nausea so I am hoping that is maybe causing the delay... I just want to look pregnant already! Oh and my boobs are exactly the same as before too (but I started out enormous so maybe that's why I just can't see any difference?)
@kitkat8387 I didn't look pregnant with my first until I was almost 26 weeks (I have a retroverted uterus, so that was part of the issue). Some FTMs take a looooong time to pop.
@kitkat8387 it took me until 20 weeks to have a little bump with my first. With #2 I was showing before I even knew I was pregnant haha. It's definitely different for all pregnancies
@kitkat8387, I was too was 20 weeks with my first before I got my bump. Trust me, at 11 weeks and "showing/bloating", I had to tell way sooner than I would have preferred!
@wpatx - it's good you called your OB to get their okay. I got a flu shot during my first pregnancy and I was 9 weeks along. I did not have any reactions or side effects. This time I will be around 16 weeks when my office does our annual flu shots, and will definitely get one if my OB hasn't already given me one at my appointment between now and then.
@kitkat8387 don't fret your bump will come. I envy you. I'm right at 5'1 with a short torso so there is no where for my bump to go but out... when I was PG with DD I always looked so big and it got frustrating. So I went beyond the "cute bump" to people staring and making mean comments about how huge my belly got. It was not fun.
I went to labor and delivery for a RH shot when I was 26 weeks and I had 3 people at the hospital ask me if I was there to deliver
@wpatx My OB said that I could get a flu shot at any point, and I did specifically ask about the first tri. He gave it the okay. I plan on getting mine at my next appointment. I will be 12 weeks. I work at a school so I would rather be on the cautious side!
Has anyone had a UTI or yeast infection in their first trimester? I have only ever had a UTI once before in my life and I have never had a yeast infection, but the last 2 days I have had an uncomfortable (itching/burning) but not when I am using the restroom...just randomly throughout the day. It comes and goes...and isn't severe at all.
I know hormones can wreak havoc on our bodies and nether regions, but I wasn't sure if I should call my doctor and try to get an earlier appointment? I have an appointment next Thursday, but I didn't want to wait to long if something was wrong. I am uncomfortable, but only mildly so and could definitely wait if needed or if it was okay.
@elgie I haven't had issues yet - but one of the things my doctor told me during my last appt was how common it was to get those during pregnancy.. and to call her if I had any symptoms. If they catch them earlier they have to put you on less medication, which is always good.
@elgie Of course, talk to your doctor first about this, but as somebody who has suffered both of these several times:
Blueberries, and cranberrries/100% cranberry juice (go ahead and cut it with water or apple juice if you think it's too bitter) will be your besties if you start getting UTIs. Also drink way more water than you think you need, and/or chow down on food sources that give you lots of hydration (such as cucumbers or tomatoes).
If it's a yeast infection, make sure the yogurt you're eating has probiotics in it (some don't list any of them), or there are probiotic tablets you can grab OTC to reduce the occurrence.
For either condition, if you don't yet, make the switch to wearing cotton underwear and avoid tight pants/pantyhose if you can. Non-cotton & tight doesn't allow for as much airflow which can trap bacteria.
@TheJerilu Thank you so much for those suggestions! I am so torn on whether or not that is what is going on...and I would like to avoid taking time off work for extra appointments if possible!

Sorry for the ramble...FTM here
I had a UTI in first tri with my first. Not to scare you, but call your doc ASAP. Infections are much more serious when pregnant and need to be taken care of immediately. Also, start downing extra fluids (like a huge glass of water every hour), pure cranberry juice as much as you can stand it and a pinch of baking soda in water. I've been able to clear out UTIs with those home remedies before.
Still call the doc though!

@kitkat8387 I didn't show at all with DD until 16 weeks. It wasn't noticeable to other people until about 18 weeks when I popped. This time around I am noticeable pregnant looking at 10 weeks.

@kitkat8387 I remember thinking I was obviously showing at week 15-16 with #1 when I really wasn't until closer to 21-23 maybe? I think we're just so aware of the changes that we think everyone else notices too. I'm 9 weeks with #3 and in most clothes you'd never know, but of course I'm going to look pregnant in an empire top! I'm sure you look wonderful!
@Ekzerr look up "lightening crotch" and see if that's what you're experiencing. Is this your first? I had it earlier and earlier with each pregnancy, but I don't remember when specifically.
So I broke down and bought some sea bands cause I just can't deal with the nausea anymore. They are working but they itch like a bitch! Anyone else having this problem? And if so how are you dealing with it?
@Ekzerr Yes- I don't have them much anymore (11w4d) but I did around 7-9 weeks several times. Felt like someone/something was jabbing me with a pencil or knitting needle from the inside for about 30 seconds or so, then it would go away. I did look up lightning crotch just now (thanks @herewegrow!) and that sounds about right. I also asked my OB about it at my first appt and she said it's normal. I think her exact quote was "Pregnancy makes your body do some weird stuff."
@elgie definitely ditto everyone else saying to consult your dr bc UTIs are especially serious during pregnancy, but another explanation (just so you're not totally surprised if this is it) is that your hormones during preg can cause your chemistry to change down below and you can actually develop a temporary sensitivity/mild allergy to ... yourself ... to put it delicately. It can cause some redness/swelling, discomfort, and itching. Especially if you're experiencing an increase in moisture in the undercarriage. Good luck!
