Supplementing question, help please

I currently have a low milk supply, so we have been supplementing with formula and adding what I can pump.  Currently, we are using Enfamil Reguline as his formula.
Unfortunately, baby L has constipation issues and we are having to give him lactulose to soften his stool so he will poop.  On top of that, now he has silent reflux and projectile vomiting, so we have added zantac.  I am not a big fan of medicating him, but i also don't like to have him screaming in pain from gas or choking in his sleep.

Any of you mommas out there have suggestions for the best formula to help at least with the constipation?  I am at my wits end with gas, puking, choking, and poop. TIA!

  • Hey we use enfamil ready to feed. We tried starting her on powder by the same brand but she got constipated and had terrible gas.
So went back to ready to feed. She recently started to spit up a little after feed but it's manageable and her poos  have become more regular. Well we have good days and not so good days but I am way more happier with ready to feed?

  • And gripe water. Sorry forgot to mention. Gripe water is a life saver...
  • My daughter had reflux and was sensitive to formulas, and she ended up on nutramigin (sp?)
It's expensive, but it really helped.

This! I just talked about nutramigen yesterday in the Baby Appts thread. When we told our ped baby gets a lot of gas from Enfamil Newborn, she gave us a sample of Nutramigen. We haven't tried it yet though.
  • i just wanted to add i signed up for the mailings for enfamil and similac, and we got prety good sized samples of 6 different kinds of formula. and now we get coupons monthly, about 20 / worth a month

  • How much are your babies eating at a feed? I want to supplement once in a while to give my nipples a break but am not sure how much . I'm guessing 2.5-3 oz ?
  • @misslissa32 yes that's what our little one eats.
  • We supplement with Similac for Supplementation (sold only at Target, for some reason) and haven't had any constipation issues.

  • Just an FYI: babies under 2 months should not be given powder formula unless the water is boiled and added to the formula very hot. The concern is not the water it is the powder formula is not sterile. It is safer to go wit the ready to feed formula.
