Question about zoloft

I know some of you girls are currently on Zoloft. My question is do you remember when you started feeling better after you started taking it? I am on day 13 and I know that is still early. I do notice that my anxiety is better but I am still obsessing all day constantly. People are telling me that my obsession is irrational but my brain has not been able to realize that yet. Anyone on Zoloft had obsessions and remember when the meds started helping with that?

Re: Question about zoloft

  • Yup, I'm currently on zoloft and wellbutrin. I actually started on lexapro (pre-pregnancy), which is VERY similar to zoloft, and it took a good 4 weeks to really start working. After that, it just kept working better from weeks 4-8. Then it plateaued at feeling better. Also, you may consider talking with your doctor about increasing the dose if you're not feeling a better at 4 weeks. It can take some time to get the dosage right, but (at least for me) it makes a big difference--and should continue to help post-partum.

  • thank you. how much do you take of zoloft? I am currently on 50mg. Last time i took it I had to get to 75mg before i got better. I am trying to stay on a low dose because I am pregnant. I am just sick of obsessing all day long. Maybe I need to wait till 4 weeks to see if the dose is high enough or not.
  • Give it a month.

I'm on 100 mg and it does take a bit to get in your system. Everyone is different and respond to diff doses so if after a month you don't feel better, they can increase it.

  • Typically they tell you to wait 4 weeks to feel better but if after 2 weeks you feel like you need to go up talk to your dr. My dr always had me increase every week until I felt okay.
  • Also wanted to chime in that I'm at 150 for depression/ptsd. Just thought I'd share in case anyone is feeling nervous about dosages--less is, of course, better, but a higher dose is not the end of the world.

Also, not to hijack this thread, but anyone else finding that taking meds exacerbates heartburn/indigestion? It's driving me crazy!
  • I'm also on Zoloft. I was taking 150 mg up until July when my doctor decided it was time to progressively taper off to 125 and then 100. But the anxiety has come back. I wanted to decrease the dose for baby, but now I'm regretting it. I made an emergency appointment this afternoon to talk to her about it.

  • Thank you girls. Do any of you take it for obsessing?
  • So I'm a psychiatrist. It takes 2 weeks to start feeling any change and full efficacy for any dose is 4-6 weeks after dose change/initiation.

If it's somewhat helpful currently that's great. You may need a dose increase around the 4 week mark :)

I took Paxil pre pregnancy for OCD and anxiety. My psych wanted to keep me on it during pregnancy and I signed a waiver. Around the 20th week, my Paxil literally stopped working and my world came crashing down. After hitting rock bottom, I started Zoloft. I am now at 150 mg, but just started that dose. I can def agree it takes 2 weeks to notice a difference. In fact, whenever I would change to a new dose, my anxiety would worsen for a couple of days. Don't give up! You'll notice more positive thoughts and less obsessive thoughts. Don't be afraid to ask for dose increases after 2 weeks.
  • Thank you girls so much. I have developed this strange irrational fear that won't go away. I really hope the Zoloft makes it go away
  • I take 50mg and sometimes feel like I could increase my dose but 90% of the time I'm ok. I do remember it took a while to kick in, but I'd mention it to doc, it could be that you need to increase. I take mine for anxiety and can relate to staying in things. Have you talked to a counselor? I ask because I found they had some great tips that have really worked for me.
  • Did you increase it?
