How to meet pregnancy buddies

Hi all! First pregnancy I'm due May 10th of 2017. Pregnancy wasn't planned and I'm kind of reeling a bit from the shock. Hubby is super excited, but he just doesn't get what I am and will be going through. I have no pregnant friends. Are there any suggestions on how to make new preggo buddies to help weather the storm?

A bit about me, I'm from Long Island. I work in NYC and Brooklyn and frankly was a bit of a party girl. It's been a bit rough at the moment not being able to drink and eat whatever I used to. I'm also into fashion and beauty and I'm deep into the overhaul all of my beauty products as well. Nothing is the same! Plus, nobody knows yet since it's just under 6 weeks so I can't even vent to anyone.

Suggestions? Thoughtful advice?

  • Congrats! And we can be your pregnant buddies  ;)

Also...look for workout classes that are pregnancy specific maybe.

  • @KRISSYOUWE Yeah, that's the whole point of the group! Pregnant buddies!!! Congratulations!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! This is my 2nd pregnancy so I'm hoping it'll go as smoothly as the first.

  • Hi and congrats! Hopefully once the fact that youre pregnant sinks in you'll be able to enjoy it. As for making friends, you're in the right place! I was active on the s14 board and we are still together to this day. I can't imagine going through my first pregnancy and motherhood without them. I have even met a few of them in real life. So stick around and you may find what you need here.

  • I was never really able to meet pregnancy buddies irl with my first. But the group on met on a forum like this was really just as good. With my second, our online group was even closer. A lot of us have met irl, even. It's nice because we're all going through the same thing at the same time and none of us gets bored hearing about your pregnancy!

Once the baby comes, it's soooo easy to find mom groups for new moms.

  • Have you heard of MeetUp? It's a website and app to connect people with similar interests (cycling, gamer geeks, new moms...etc). You can do a search for your area and the type of activity you're looking for, and hopefully find some good groups.

You might check with baby stores or even your OB to see if there are any pregnancy or mom groups that they know of.

    Good luck!
  • Look online and see if your city has any mommy groups. It's so so important to have other mom friends. They truly are the only ones that understand! All our local churches have a group called MOPS. I'm pretty sure it's international. If you have any neighbors with babies that's even better. We had a neighbor move in and we started walking throughout our pregnancy and now spend everyday together with our kids. So important to have!!

  • I met expecting moms when I did things like prenatal yoga classes. For my first pregnancy I went to two classes regularly that had different people attending them, so I met lots of women.

There should also be some parenting, breastfeeding, childbirth, etc classes that you can take in your 3rd tri (or maybe 2nd), probably through your hospital. That was another way I met people in my first pregnancy.

Then after the baby comes you should attend a breastfeeding support group (usually through the hospital). There might be some other non-breastfeeding-related mom groups that crop up immediately following childbirth. There are also post-partum fitness classes / stroller classes you can take. All of this stuff is especially feasible if this is your first child and you have maternity leave for your job.
