Babies: 9 - 12 Months

anyone giving vitamin drops?

At Jonathans 9 month appt, pedi suggested vitamin drops and gave me a script for them. He eats well and his weight and height are in the 40%. He doesn't eat much table food yet and still has about 25 oz of formula per day. I was surprised he would need additional vitamins considering his formula intake. She suggested adding a third meal as well.

anyone else?

Re: anyone giving vitamin drops?

  • Yep, we started after his 9 month appointment per his pedi.  She said she wanted him on them just for the winter months.  I just bought them at Target and got the Target brand.

  • I've been giving them to J since 6 months, and Ethan was on them at 6 months until we switched to chewables at 3 y.o. Ethan loved those vitamins.

We don't have flouride added in our water in NJ, so the dr gave us these drops which have flouride in them (Poly-visol... forgot exact name).

  • We've been giving them since birth (polyvisol with iron) and he was still anemic at 9 months. Possibly that's because he's a preemie though. Anyway, we went on prescription iron in addition to the polyvisol and have since been able to drop the iron supplement as his levels rose. Another poster a while back said she got a prescription for vitamin drops and they were expensive and when she compared them to the polyvisol ($9 at target, bru, grocery stores) they were essentially the same thing.

  • since her 4 month checkup we were giving her poly vi sol vitamins.  we were told it was since she was EBF though.  we were told to switch to poly vi flor after her 6 mo check up so as soon as we run out of the first we will switch to the second.
  • I give them to her now. I just started at around 10 months.

She still takes 4 (8oz) bottles and she eats 3 meals a day (table food).
