Infertility

Any success protesting insurance?

Hi ladies. I'm curious for those that paid OOP for your procedures (IVF, IUI) due to lack of insurance coverage, if you protested your insurance or were successful getting any additional coverage. We have good insurance for prenatal and beyond but our IF coverage only covers treatment of the underlying condition and no fertility procedures. We paid OOP for an IUI and one failed IVF cycle with no leftover embryos and are looking to start a new cycle by the end of the year or early 2017. Thanks for any tips you have!!

  • @leanneB82 I don't have any experience with this but wanted to wish you the best of luck!

I recently listed to a podcast "Beat Infertility" that went over how to get IF treatment added by your employer - it can be as easy as contacting HR or writing a letter. The podcast said that it's not the insurance company that's denying the benefits, it's the employer not having benefits available through the coverage they provide employees.

  • Thanks @mtpbadger! I've been involved with my company's benefit team as a group of us worked on improved maternity coverage but we still haven't gotten anywhere on that.
