With that said, I took 2 gulps of my husband's beer. I've been drinking water/juice every single.freaking.day. since I found out I was pregnant. I caved....and damn did it tasted good!
Not really a FFFC exactly, but my school had free donuts for staff this morning. Just went back for my second (after waiting hours to give others a chance)...the baby wanted it...
OK so I have another one and this one will get me flamed i'm sure...
I don't like participation trophies past the age of like 6 or 7.
Kids need to know what it feels like to win and what it feels like to lose. Losing drives determination, and as they get older they have to have a drive and determination to get into college, to work hard for a job they want, etc.
Totally agree with participation trophies! I think it all depends on the tone of those activities though, too.
Mine is super dumb - I've totally patted my bloat-belly in public so people will think I'm pregnant and not chubby. Why do I care? Not sure.
I hold my bloat all the time so people dont assume Im just fat

During last week's UO Thursday, I said I hated all things fall, but I've been stalking the Panera website for when they'd have Autumn Squash Soup and rushed there today at 11:45 am to get some.
I want all the caffeine today! I had part of a cup of coffee and it was heavenly. I got busy and it got cold so now I am kind meh to it. Now I just really really really want a cherry Pepsi. I usually try not to have both coffee and a soda while not pregnant so I probably should hold to the same rules while pregnant. Maybe I won't today though...celebrate feeling good?!

I am a teacher and during my plan time...I shut my door, turned off the lights, and grabbed a comfy chair and a sweatshirt and took a little 20 minute power-nap Thank goodness no kiddos or co-workers came looking for me!
@twistsandturnsto2 Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this...I have been struggling big time to maintain a consistent workout routine. I ran 20-25 miles a week pre-pregnancy and lately I am lucky if I run at all. I try...but it ends up being more of a walk/jog and doesn't last very long at all. It makes me feel better to know that I am not alone.
@BeachMommy2B I used this as my FFFC on another board at some point and totally got flamed. But I 100% agree!
@twistsandturnsto2 I tried really hard to work out at least 3 days a week before I hit week 6... I haven't gone once since then. I cross my fingers every day that my gym buddy isn't able to go!
Not sure if this is just a rant or a true FFFC, but I HATE gender sterotyping on kids stuff like clothes and toys. I let my DD wander in and out of the girls and boys departments and pick what she likes, who cares if it's traditionally for boys? She loves elmo and the ninja turtles as well as baby dolls and ponies. Today we got a pair of elmo slippers and they are labeled "boys"....are they for penises? Nope for feet. Not sure why a girl can't wear something thats not pink or sparkley.
ETA: I think boys have it worse though. God forbid a boy wpuld want to be a princess for halloween, etc.
@rileypie I totally agree! DD loves dinosaurs and ninja turtles too! And would totally love those slippers, but it seems everyone expects her to be in frilly dresses all the time?
@elgie and @twistsandturnsto2 I also haven't been able to run/exercise, but this was the same as last pregnancy but by 2nd tri I felt good enough to do so and kept it up (mostly) until the end! So the first tri isn't necessarily indicative of the rest of pregnancy, there's tons of time to get back on the bandwagon!
Though, last time it was over spring/summer so that made it easier. Might have less motivation in the dark, cold winter.
Confession (maybe more a UO): I hate all the signatures and tickers and such on here, they're such a distraction! I'm 99% mobile so I don't normally see them but when I went on desktop last week I just couldn't. It was so hard to read the actual messages and caused too much scrolling! So I guess count me out for any ticker changes and siggy contests. Also, who has time for all that updating?! To each their own, but def not for me.
The mention of fast food made me think of another one!
My entire first pregnancy, I didn't have a single craving. Not one. So I became convinced that it was all mental and women were making them up as an excuse to eat junk food. I totally side-eyed any mentions of cravings. I never actually called anyone out, but I thought it.
Well, Ms. Karma is a giant B. I have the weirdest cravings this go round. And as I sip my virgin bloody marys every day (aka my excuse to drink pickle juice), I send silent apologies out into the universe to all the women I've judged.

Anyone hear of the baking soda gender predictor? Well, we just did it and it says we are having a boy. Has anyone else every done this? (You mix urine and banking soda, if it fizzes up like a soda that has been shaken, it's a boy, if you get no reaction, it's a girl) What were your results?

I don't like participation trophies past the age of like 6 or 7.
Kids
need to know what it feels like to win and what it feels like to lose.
Losing drives determination, and as they get older they have to have a
drive and determination to get into college, to work hard for a job they
want, etc.
I agree! Except I don't even like them before the age of 6 or 7 either. I think trophies should not be for participation, but to honor a persons achievements that go above and beyond what is expected. I think that is appropriate for all ages. Give each child a hug or high five, look them in the eye, and say, "You worked hard this year/season and I bet you're proud of your effort. Thank you for being part of our team." That is better than any participation trophy/ribbon!
@Rileypie my son has baby dolls, a toy stroller, a toy kitchen, and a purse. He plays with all of it as often as he plays with his trucks and dinosaurs. If this baby is a girl, she is welcome to play with "boy" and "girl" toys. I'll let her choose what she likes.
I will confess that although I let my son choose whatever toys and clothes he likes regardless of the stereotypes associated with them, I could not go along with one choice he made in June. I amembarrassed that I caved to stereotypical stuff, but I just couldn't bring myself to let it go. When we were choosing a swim float (you know the kind that buckles in the back and has a foam piece around the chest and arms), I talked him out of the one he wanted. He wanted the one with the unicorn and rainbow on pink with purple sleeves that had pink hearts on them. I couldn't stand the thought of people judging him even though I'm all about breaking stereotypes. I pointed out a few others that were a bit more neutral and he chose another one without any further pressure from me. I still feel sheepish about it.
@Breesy14 don't beat yourself up. If we have a boy I'm sure that will be a challenge at times. You don't want to follow the gender roles but also don't want your child judged or yourself as a parent. We are human we want to be accepted. But the more we just let it all go the more mainstream and less "weird" it will be to have a boy like traditionally female things or vice versa.
And I'm sure there are some eye rollers at these posts, I won't force barbies on a son or trucks on a daughter. I just want them to choose for themselves and not feel one thing is okay and one thing is not due to color or traditions.
@Holzie I've done it a few times, always a boy reaction. I will see if it's right in a few weeks! I hadn't heard of it with my girls, so no previous experience there. I believe there is nothing scientific to back it up, but I have heard there is a 75ish% accuracy rate.
So how do I do this baking soda test? Do I pee in a cup of baking soda? Or pee in a clean cup and the pour into another cup of baking soda? How much baking soda? Never done this one before, but sounds like a fun thing to do on a Friday night.
@KirstinH88 I put some baking soda in a paper cup, just a couple tablespoons?, and then pee in a different one. Then I poured it onto the baking soda and watch. Mine have been really obvious reactions, like pouring a beer too fast.
I have been eating industrial quantities of sugar and NOT because of pregnancy cravings. Yesterday I went out with my colleague, ordered two sets of churros at Wahaca, I ate mine, than I ate hers!!!! Ordered a third one for her - and I ate half of that, too!! Shameful and if she has half a brain, she now knows something's up. Normally I am the pickiest and lightest eater at work lunches.
Me: 35 year old FTM, a busy city banker living in London, and a constant worrier. My DH: French guy, car fanatic, best husband ever. Our baby boy: Due on 17 April, currently 37 weeks. I can't believe it - I made it to full term!!!! Last measurement: 3150 gs at 37+1! This is going to be a big baby
Just tried the baking soda test for fun and... nothing happened! Kinda anti-climactic (lol) but my nieces would be thrilled. They are all hoping for a girl cousin. However, I'm not sure how old my baking soda is so I might have to try again with a fresh box. That's gotta make a difference!
Alright so I just peed in baking soda. It kinda foamed but didn't fizz, not sure if I'm reading it right, lol.
my fffc I like some gender roles. I won't have my boys in girl clothes or play with barbies. My 3yo does have a baby that I got him. I don't mind toys that teach them how to "father". But no princess's. We do however watch "girl" movies. But that's my choice as their parent. I do not believe in gender roles in work or sports, if a women can physically do the job/sport of a man then let them. I played on a men's soccer team and was a firefighter, I'm also pretty dang girlie.
Fell asleep at my desk at work Thursday. Haha! Didn't feel bad about it. Nobody caught me.
My other fffc is that some friends who know I'm PGAL and super nervous about it have been stirring up drama and upsetting me (how old are we, seriously?) which is the last thing I need right now so I've been ignoring them and not thinking about them at all. Sorry not sorry.
My brother and sister in law, who are also pregnant (due in February), just announced the name, which just so happens to be our #1 boy name. All the sobbing emojis. I knew this was going to happen. And I guess my FFFC is that even though I have no real right to be angry, I am so pissed!!!!! Granted, still 2 weeks until we find out the sex of our LO, but... I'm still mad.
@akslevin Do they live near you? Are you close? If not, I say go for the name of it's your number 1! Maybe my FFFC (on a Monday) is that I really don't think any names are off limits or can be taken.
@akslevin I hear you on the being angry... DH's cousin was pregnant last time we were but was having a girl (we had a boy). She announced that she was going to name her girl one of my favorite girl names... then when baby was born changed it. Now that I'm pregnant again, and really hoping for a girl, I want to use the name but feel like I can't because she sort of already used it. Although I think I'd be less upset if she actually used it, now the name just seems wasted...
@cafedisco yes they all had healthy pregnancies and babies in the time DH and I were ttc and had an mmc and they knew about it, which is what makes it more baffling to me. But I had a great time this weekend with my best friends who were so supportive and it's got me feeling much better.
@akslevin I wish I could tell you you should use the name anyway but I wouldn't know what to do with brother and SIL. But @JaneArson is probably right--if they're not close by maybe you can. That's awful though refardless.
Re: FFFC
