3 weeks, 4 days pregnant and lower back pain

I'm 3 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I'm experiencing some achy lower back pain. I'm a teacher and stand on my feet all day, so that could definitely be it, but I had a miscarriage in May, so I'm also concerned it could be another one. Anyone else experience lower back pain this early on?

Re: 3 weeks, 4 days pregnant and lower back pain

  • Yes, I am. Just in the evenings the past three days. I'm on my feet running around all day with my two little ones and s new puppy... But... It still makes me nervous. Just 4 weeks for me, so I'm trying not to think about it much.

  • I had terrible back pain throughout the first trimester of my first pregnancy and have a healthy 10 month old.  It could just be the hormones kicking it and your ligaments loosening off.

  • With my son I had horrible back pain around 5 or 6 weeks. I'm 5 weeks 2 days right now and have had dull achy back pain for the last week. It's usually after work or I've been doing too much. Just like @MrsN092714 said it's probably ligaments loosening
  • Thanks guys! My miscarriage in May has turned me into the mist anxious person ever with this pregnancy.
  • Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry about your past loss! Its hard to enjoy a new pregnancy after with all the anxiety and worries that goes through the mind. You are welcome to us on our weekly PGAL check ins if you'd like. I hope the back pain will ease up soon =)

  • I have had it since 4weeks and I'm now 6w4ds. Sometimes I felt nauseated because it was so painful. 2x docs as well as my midwife aren't concerned. It has eased off just before 6weeks. Hubby was giving me massages and placing hot flannels where it was sore which really helped. I was so worried as well. If you don't have bad cramping or bleeding then there isn't any concern apparently. My scan is in 7 days and I'm petrified!!!
  • Thanks, what's a PGAL?
  • I hope it's just regular preggo pains for you! One thing that helped me a lot with my first pregnancy was a TENS unit. I got one pretty inexpensively (maybe $25-$30), and I could tell a HUGE difference when I used it.

  • I've had lower back pain like I am due ony period. Had it from about 3 weeks to 4 and a half weeks. Along with cramps I kept thinking 'I'm not pregnant, I had two false positives and will get my period soon'. I am now 5 and a half weeks and still pregnant!
Hope the back pain stops soon for you. It's awful having that worry in the back of your head all the time xx
  • On the one hand, it always makes sense to be cautiously optimistic when you test early. Chemical pregnancies that end with a roughly on-time period (i.e. a period later this week for you) are more common than later miscarriages.

On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about the back pain. I also had it in my third week when I didn't know I was pregnant, and was convinced my period was around the corner. I put in my diva cup and had a pantyliner on all day (because I was going to be super busy at work), but when I checked the cup repeatedly, there was nothing. I finally tested that night and had a positive, a surprise to me because it felt like my period was happening and I had not had that experience with the other pregnancies (not that I remembered, at least).

Last night I was dancing and found that afterward I had a lot of back pain that felt like the kind of thing I'd get all of the time later in a pregnancy and is due to hormones loosening things up. So I agree with that assessment that others have offered. I hope that your baby sticks! And all of ours for that matter!
