All About Fetal Dopplers

Hi ladies... Since we are all getting to the point in pregnancy where we may have luck hearing our little beans on a doppler, I figured I would start a thread to share info.

We just heard our baby using a Sonoline B at 8w6d, HB measuring in the 160's. I had forgotten how incredibly hard it is to use a home doppler. I failed the first time and DH was thankfully able to find he/she after twenty agonizing minutes! I find the doppler helps my PGAL brain but boy does it freak me out when the little bean is hiding!

Anyone else playing with their dopplers? Hope you are all hearing that sweet sound very soon! Can't wait to hear from you all!

I have one but I haven't tried it yet. I'm not even 8wks yet. I probably won't try until 10wks.

We have one from our first, a sonoline b as well, but haven't pulled it out yet. Maybe tonight we will give it a whirl

Hi I'm new to the board. I have a sonaline b and I found my dd(7) heart beat at 9.6 weeks and dd(11mos) at 7.5 weeks.
Now with this one I don't know how far along I am. Crazy story, but I already found the heart beat. I find out my due date on Thursday.

I have one but haven't tried it. It took a long time to find my second so I don't want to freak out if I can't find this one.

My sister in law has a Doppler she said I can use/have, but I'm not sure I want to use it. I have an appt in 2 weeks to hear the heartbeat and while it would ease my mind to hear baby now, I'm worried about the anxiety it might cause if I am unable to find it. I'm 9 weeks 4 days right now.

I also have the Sonoline B and didn't hear the heartbeat of my first two kids until 10w, so I will be waiting.

I can totally understand waiting until 10-ish weeks. It's definitely a learned skill! I remember being 15 weeks with DD and I couldn't find her within the first five minutes and almost had a panic attack. Once you get the hang of it, it can provide such great peace of mind

I just bought a sonoline B from Babydoppler America. They are having a sale until the 15th. I paid $36 and it came with free gel and free standard shipping, but I paid for faster shipping because I'm impatient. I will be 11 weeks when it arrives so I'm super excited to hear the heartbeat!

I was 8 weeks along when I heard my son with the sonoline B. I found it a few inches below my belly button, just right of mid-line. I had a tilted uterus and an anterior placenta... I was determined to find that heart beat, let me tell ya haha

So what's the difference in different types doppler brands? I see several of you mention Sonoline. I look up and see Sonoline B & Co. What's the difference?

Yays my Doppler arrived this morning. Took a while but I got the hang of it. Around 165 beats per minute. Can't wait to show my mom and sisters.

We just got our Sonoline B and think we heard the heartbeat but it didn't register on the screen. Did this happen to anyone else?

I have a Sonoline B too! I just tried a few minutes ago (I think I'm 9w 2d) and couldn't find it. I only tried for about 5 min though, so I might try again when I'm in bed and have more time to spend hunting. I didn't find my DS's until 11 weeks though. Turned out he was super low. I know this baby is higher this time - confirmed on an US. So I will keep looking!

Depends on the mode. Mode 3 it wouldn't pick up measurement for FHR- moved it to mode 1 and held my breath and got it!

I don't even know what the modes are lol I was able to find my bean laying on my back, knees bent and pelvis tilted upward. Whatever it friggin takes! Baha it was about 4 inches above my pubic bone and off to the right. Little bean is sitting atop my uterine artery so it was hard to hear it longer than 30 seconds at a time.

So, fun fact.. I've been listening to the baby's heartbeat every few days on my sonoline B at home... went to the doctor this morning - doctor spent ten minutes trying to find it, promised me that they would get it, even if it meant an ultrasound... So, guess who got an ultrasound to check the baby's heartbeat (baby was moving around like WILD behind the placenta so it was like the perfect storm of not being able to get the baby on the doppler) because the DOCTOR could not find it...? lol

Found my little babes hb this morning. I'm 9w4d. Sounds like a train chugging along. About 176 bpm. Such a wonderful sound!

I second this. I am also 9W4D and we found it beating at 154bpm this AM!

I'm 11+2 and can't find it yet. Dr couldn't find it on his at appointment last week either. Wishing I didn't try bc it's giving me anxiety!

@HappyAnjel I just ordered mine and am uncertain whether I should try when it arrives or just wait. I'm 10w tomorrow, almost 11 by the time it arrives. But they do say 14 weeks onward on most of them so I'm determined not to worry if I do try and cant find it. I'm sure it's the same for you. Just early.

How do you know you have heard the HB and not something else? I was reading that they are really sensitive and they will pick up not only my HB but other sounds from arteries etc? What does the babies HB sound like?

Your babes heartbeat will be super fast. Mine was faint and moved fairly quickly. Idk about other dopplers but the Sonoline B tells you the heart rate. Yours will be low where babes will be much faster in the 140s+.

There are a lot of strange Whooshing sounds. I found my heartbeat first and when I heard baby's there was no question. It sounds like a horse galloping or a train chugging along. It's very fast. I also watched some YouTube videos first so that helped.

Thanks @harrypotterandcats and @andrea0418; I knew that mine would be slower...I just wasn't sure if there was anything else in there (veins/arteries/etc) that might be picked up on the Doppler as well. I am almost positive I heard the HB this morning - and it showed up on the screen as 168BPM; but wasn't sure if it could possibly be something else. It was very quick and sounded a lot like a horse galloping...so I think I did indeed find it! This makes me very excited...and relieved

I finally got the Sonoline B but wanted to wait until after my 12 week appointment to try it out, so I wouldn't panic if I couldn't find the heartbeat. Well, the doctor couldn't find it with the doppler at the office, but I had an ultrasound and it was beating away at 166 bpm right on the screen! So when I got home and tried it out, I didn't expect to be able to find it, but figured I might as well give it a shot. Well, it took about 5 minutes for me to find it at home! I think the baby must have just moved into a certain position while I was with the doctor that made it harder to find. Either that or the Sonoline B is better than the one they have at the office? Who knows!

I put mine away for now. I'm a fluffy girl and Doctor couldn't find it at the office last week (he did say it was only 50/50 we would) then I couldn't at home few days later.. went back Monday and different dr couldn't find it with Doppler so did a quick ultrasound.. soo I'm happy with seeing it and I'm putting mine up until we hear it on the office doppler so I don't panic.

Also, if your placenta is on the front side, it can reallllllly obscure the baby's heartbeat especially if baby is directly below it.

This was me last time. Anterior placenta and I could barely even feel her let alone find a heart beat. I ended up returning my doppler.

I'm 12w1d and still haven't been able to find the heartbeat with my Sonoline B. Guess we will just keep trying.
