food strike?

So my DS seems to be on a food strike. He has tried many different foods. Some he likes and others not so much. But here over the past week or so he could care less to actually eat. It's a struggle to get him to. He closes his mouth and doesnt want to try anything. He still nurses fine. Should I keep trying to make him eat? I don't want to force it, but I'm offering foods I know he likes and he doesnt want anything to do with it. Anyone else going through this? Is it ok to just keep nursing and not giving foods? Should I keep trying? I'm ending up wasting food every meal. Even though it's not a lot of food, it's still wasteful.

Re: food strike?

  • My LO has lost a bit of interest in her foods as well. I'm still going to keep offering, but I offer her food we are already eating anyways (just pop a little bit of our  veggies into the blender) so it's not really a waste. I would imagine you should keep offering and his interest may come and go. I don't stress if she refuses to eat since BM is really where she's getting her nutrition for the first 12 months.

  • I usually make his food from our too, but I add BM to it to thin it up and it's the breast milk that I cringe at wasting since I'm already a low pumper :) for the days I work. But Ill keep offering
  • He'll get all he needs from breastmilk/formula at this age. Food is just a bonus right now. Keep offering, but don't stress if he doesn't take it and don't force it. Maybe instead of feeding him, try putting some finger foods on his tray? (small cubed avocado, sweet potato, steamed apples, etc)

    Thanks, I'll try that!
  • We were going through the same thing for 2weeks,but I kept trying daily though he'd only eat a few bites (was eating 2jars 3x a day )after giving him some lil crunchies (Gerber sweetpotato Apple flavor)and trying stage 3so he had a different texture he's getting back to eating alittle more.back up to 1stage 2 or stage 3per meal.and eighter a teething cookie or "puffs" or "lil crunchies".he's now having 2teeth at top come in (already has 2bottom ones).
  • Oh we've just been through the exact same thing.. Lasted almost 2 weeks but she has just started eating again these last 2 days. I was wondering if it's teeth related.. She's yet to cut any but I'm feeling like it won't be long.
They just like keeping us on our toes!
  • Is your LO teething? My DD LOVES food but when she's teething or going through a leap in general she will be a pickier eater. I continue to offer when we eat but don't force her. Like pp said, breastmilk/formula is all they really NEED at the moment :)

  • He still does not have any teeth, but I'm thinking anytime. Just over the past 3 days, he's started to eat again. He likes his food warm and not cold at all. He nurses fine, so its all good :)
@Idemeris yes they definitely like to keep us on our toes. :)
