High Estrogen Levels--IVF delayed again!

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post to the board and I was wondering if anyone has gone through this or is going through this.

I am 35 years old with no prior history of pregnancies or attempts to conceive my husband had a vasectomy in 1999. My AMH is 2.1 with no history of PCOS.

I was suppose to start stims on 8/8/16 but my cycle was canceled because my estrogen level was too high. I was 134 on 8/8/16 and then 184 on 8/10/16. My RE put me on BCP for the rest of my cycle with the belief this would stabalize my estrogen levels. I was suppose to start stims again on 9/2. This time my U/S showed a cyst on my right ovary and my estrogen level despit being on day 1 was at 178. It was still at 178 on 9/4. My Dr suggested we use 10,000 units of Pregnyl to try to get my body to ovulate remove the cyst and lower my estrogen levels. I have a follow up U/S and blood woork to see if it is working. Has anyone gone through anything like this? Or know why estrogen levels could be so high?

I am so frustrated. I can not even seem to get out of the gate. Not even sure of what questions I should be asking. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Re: High Estrogen Levels--IVF delayed again!

  • I unfortunately don't have advice for your high estrogen but I have had a few cysts that have thrown off previous IUI cycle timing - mine always thankfully cleared on their own with time but hopefully your doctor's Pregnyl suggestion will clear that up as well as regulate your estrogen level.  I just want you to know I totally relate to the frustration of getting roadblocked before you even begin.  My latest is I had to cancel our first IVF cycle because my non-ovulating (for 15 months straight!) PCOS system decided to miraculously grow a follicle on its own, thus throwing off our schedule since this was my only clear window from work travel for the next few months.  I'm with you on the frustration girl - this journey is definitely a great lesson in developing patience!

Fingers crossed that your doctor's protocol does the trick, and once the cyst clears up your body can go back to more normal levels and you can get your show on the road.  Wishing you lots of luck - deep breaths and hang in there!

  • @Esperer thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. My RE drained the cyst yesterday because it had gotten so large over the weekend. I am now on Prometrium in the hopes of flushing all of the estrogen out.

I am so sorry your body also decided not to cooperate. The waiting in all of this is SO exhausting. I feel as though all I do is count days anymore.

Are they going to try again on your next cycle? I hope your job is willing to work with you. FX for your as well!
