My UO is that I hate, HATE it when people come into a public restroom and talk on their phone. I don't relish the thought of someone on the other end of the line hearing me pee (even though it's probably not possible- but still). Likewise the person on the other end of the line doesn't need to hear toilets flushing.
I can totally understand if you need to go somewhere to use the phone for a private conversation, but can you do it somewhere other than a public restroom? Plus I really don't want to be privy to your private conversations and I am when you are talking on the phone in the stall a few doors down!
What you do in your own bathroom is completely up to you since you aren't contending with any other users while in there!
@cjt121413 I'm having the same trouble, but I'm only like an episode and a half in. I feel like if I push it for another episode I may be more interested.
Is it still an UO that the few randos on HDBD still annoy me? It just seems weird to me to barely say a word to the group but share photos of yourself weekly. Who are you?

I totally agree on the HDBD randos.
Kind of the definition of AW to me. "I don't know any of you, nor do I care to interact with you, but please tell me how pretty I am and love tit my pic! Thanksbye!"
I hate conflicting nutritional advice. My Bradley class nutrition says to eat 3-4 servings of dairy/day but my doctor says to stay away from dairy. She actually said that milk is for baby cows. Meanwhile I don't know what to do and all I eat for breakfast every day is dairy (I have yogurt/banana and then cottage cheese w/almonds later). The thought of not having dairy stresses me out so much I can't concentrate on work today.

My UO is that I hate how a cheating partner can make someone so irrational. Mostly I'm just talking about one friend/neighbor. Her now husband has a habit of "talking" to girls he meets on okcupid. Every few years he gets caught and gets her to believe he does it due to low self esteem and that he never actual meets any of these girls in person. The first time he did it, she through all of his stuff out, but he was back in a week. The second time she kicked him out, but he was back very soon and he proposed. The third time they went to couples therapy and had a baby.
Now she's super controlling (has access to all social media accounts, has to be involved in all activities and gives permission to hang out with friends etc) and holds this stuff over his head. I just don't get it - why stay with him with this type of pattern, it happened even after they got married! Also she texts my DH a lot (mostly about stuff happening in the neighborhood) but frowns on me texting her husband anything
Oops this might have been more of a rant than an UO.
My UO: men should not be allowed to complain about being tired to a pregnant lady.
Usually I'm all "yup men can have valid complaints too" but I got ragey at DH this morning when he said he was tired. First, he's not pregnant. Second, he came to bed at 930 last night, turned his light on, and read a book for an hour...I went to bed about 15 minutes earlier so of course his actions woke me up and kept me up. Third, all 5 times I got up to pee last night, he was in a deep sleep. I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT DH, YOU AREN'T TIRED! I'M TIRED!
@karmba all I can say is, you never truly know how you would react in a situation, until you're actually in the situation. I've been on both sides of it....
@brittnic86 I get that. It's just hard to listen about it all and be sympathetic when she's clearly unhappy about the situation and it stresses her out constantly.
@karmba shortened story. One of our friends was engaged to this great girl. They broke off their engagement 2 months before they got married. Apparently he was caught red handed having multiple video chat accounts where the girls on the other end did sexual things. He said it wasn't cheating. Anyway now he's in a relationship with a new girl and we hung out with them a few weeks ago and the new girl complained to me about how she couldn't believe the ex broke off the engagement and what a bitch she is to leave him like that and he's such a great guy bla bla. And I was like woahhhhh wait. Im not going to get involved but there are definitely two sides to every story. And she's like whatever. Clearly he never told her why they broke up.
Anyway best advice. Don't get involved.

@LeksiL I've never heard of anyone recommend cutting dairy before (unless you're sick with a cold or something). That sounds super weird. Baby needs calcium and protein, and dairy has all that. If it makes you feel any better, I ate a ton of dairy with DD, and she is super healthy. What reasoning does your doctor have for limiting dairy in pregnancy?
Piggybacking off of @sourlemon - I get annoyed that during both of my pregnancies, DH has suddenly gone on crazy health kicks. Okay, so it's not a bad thing at all on the surface. What I hate about it is when he complains to me about weight gain or stagnation, and I'm just like...you're complaining to the person who will not have even a semblance of a waist for the next year about your .5lb bloat?! I'm just not sympathetic at all. And yes yes the weight gain is healthy and needed, and I don't have a problem with it blah blah. But hearing someone obsess about their weight when you have to actively be cool with your own weight gain (while still not gaining too much or doctors get cranky) makes me really fussy.
So maybe my UO is that nobody should be allowed to vent to pregnant women about weight fluctuations...let's just assume she's probably dealing with more weight fluctuations than you are and shut it.
@sammyl1221 we used to be a lot closer with both of them, but both DH and I have distanced ourselves because if it all blows up at some point, we don't want to be forced to choose sides.
@leksiL hey just read your post. My dr actually told me to make sure I get my daily calcium recommendation and then some because in third trimester the baby is absorbing more calcium and their bones need it. I'd follow up with them on this.
@leksiL DS1's pediatrician says the same thing to us about cow's milk and after doing some research we caught on too. You could always try almond milk yogurt (it's actually very good)! I don't know that there is a substitute for the cottage cheese though. The amount of dairy free alternatives out there is pretty amazing. DS2 will also transition to almond milk when we finished nursing.
@LinziLoo09 the doctor said that casein was not a good type of protein, and that it had too much fat and sugar. Also, that it promotes "growth" including tumor growth. She told me to watch a movie called "Food Choices" and read a book called "The China Study" which looks like something that supports veganism with supplementation with vitamins.
OK the thing about documentaries is that they are always one sided. You can find a food documentary that basically supports anything. And while I support anyone that wants to lead a vegan lifestyle that is not something that is for me. And is the book financed by the supplement companies? Maybe.
@Gizmo1231 thanks for the suggestion I have tried cutting out diary before (was miserable), and absolutely hated almond yogurt. I didn't mind coconut yogurt but it was really expensive - like $2.50 for a little cup, and it wasn't as good as the traditional plain greek yogurt that I enjoy daily. I don't mind almond milk or cashew milk, so maybe I will keep my yogurt, substitute oatmeal for the cottage cheese, and substitute milk with almond/cashew milk (whichever is on sale). I know I am miserable cutting it out entirely and like everything, moderation is probably key.

@leksiL *resident off/on vegan here* I have read The China Study by Dr. Campbell and found it very informative. It's not going to be your run of the mill diet book, more like it describes the study Dr. Campbell did in China many years ago and what he found. I enjoyed it. I've also read How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Esselstyn and his son's book Engine 2 (I've also made a ton of his recipes). I have not read Dr. McDougall's The Starch Solution or Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reducing Diabetes but I am familiar with their work and stances, have watched a ton of videos online featuring them and listened to a few podcasts featuring everyone I mentioned. If you have Netflix you can watch Forks Over Knives and get the gist of Dr. Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn's research as they are both in the documentary.
Essentially the idea or word behind it is that we have been taught very differently than the reality of what animal products can do to our systems. This group of doctors have taken a stand that meat and dairy actually are poor for our diet and cause a myriad of health problems (I AM NOT GIVING YOU ADVICE, SIMPLY REPEATING THEIRS SO PLEASE DON'T COME AT ME WITH PITCHFORKS I WILL NOT ENGAGE). They believe our modern diet is full of things like saturated fat and much too high in protein and they allege that this is indeed the culprit behind many of our diseases and illnesses. Even if you don't think it's for you, their findings are very interesting and informative.
I've had a lot of positive results from cutting substantially back on the animal products. Every time I cheat and go back to eating the standard diet, I feel like crap and my husband too. We lasted about two weeks (It was fun while it lasted) this past time before we both had to give up defeat and kick the meat and cheese again. I will say also that my dad is a type 2 diabetic and gave up animal products this year - his A1c is now lower than it's ever been as is his blood pressure.
*Again, please don't attack me. I've given no advice here, just summarized theirs and expressed how much better I feel taking that advice. I should also say that my OB practice is aware that I avoid meat and dairy and has only emphasized I keep an eye on my iron intake - telling me to eat more spinach.*
I'm not a vegan, nor a vegetarian. However, @austenista's point of view (though controversial for sure) is supported by blue zone studies. Which I find really interesting.
There are a number of studies that show a low calorie diet is huge for health and longevity. Not just for models. However, I also do not have a low calorie diet. In fact, I've counted calories various times over the past 5 years and if left to my own devices, I'm WAYYYY over 2000/day. What? I'm hungry.
So yea, not chiming in to say do what I do... and diet is really complex to talk about - how much of what and when and what your body does with certain foods is different than another persons... BUT there's some support for low cal diets (while not pregnant) and a lot of support for very plant heavy diets. I think they type and amount of fuel that is right for a person can be pretty individual and if we could all really listen to our bodies reactions, it'd give us the best clues as to what/how/when to eat. I think that's sort of impossible though because we receive, directly, subconsciously so many more signals about how we should feel about a food from advertising, traditions, circumstance. I think it may just be impossible to completely neutrally assess what a food is doing for you.
Just to play devil's advocate here...I was vegetarian (not vegan) for 2-3 years in college. I didn't supplement or anything. Didn't focus much on getting enough protein from plant sources. It wasn't until after I reintroduced meat that I realized how much less energy I had and how much more often I got sick without meat. So for me, meat (or at least enough protein) seems to be important. Although I definitely agree with @slartybartfast that everyone's needs are different.
@Austenista I would never attack you for providing a thoughtful response - thank you for doing so!
I have watched what I eat my entire adult life and tried so many different ways of eating although I'm usually on the lower end of the scale, I'm typically a size 4 or so, and lift weights and work out a lot and generally I feel great. As soon as I found I was pregnant I stopped calorie counting and it's been tough losing control but I've enjoyed not worrying about it. So now getting conflicting advice from my Bradley class and my OB is stressful for me.
I agree with @slartybartfast and @tinattt23 about diets being totally individual. I'm sure this will come up again when we are all trying to lose our baby weight. I'm currently watching "My Diet Is Better Than Yours" and at least none of us are doing those cockamamy diets!
Me: 38, DH: 36 Married Jan 2008 DD Baby Bells born Dec 2016 5 lbs, 12 oz, 18" so in love Due with #2 Baby Arya EDD February 2020
@leksiL I have purposely avoided food documentaries because I know I don't currently have the self control or budget to eat as clean as I - perhaps morally - should. They might not work on me anyhow. DH and I tried watching Supersize Me a few years ago, and within 10 minutes, we were like, "I'm really hungry for McDonald's." So we turned the movie off and got us some Mickey D's. I'd probably end up eating way more dairy if I watched one of your doctor's documentaries
This discussion is very interesting to me. I find it odd that a 2,000 calorie diet is the typical recommended one size fits most. Even with being in modified bedrest, walking less than 2500 steps a day(living room is 50 steps from the bathroom) and basically just netflixing all day I burn -according to my Fitbit- about 3000 a day. So while low calorie diets work for some, just as low carb or protein work for some, I have yet to find any of the popular diets work for me and my body type. Just interesting.

@sourlemon as long as they don't ask how you gain the weight, who cares? Also, H got me 40 nuggets to 'snack' on yesterday for my 5 hrs in L&D. Neither the nurses or the actual OB said a damn thing.
