Re: Symptoms Thread 9/5/16

  • @PCOSbaby lol. I've had my spine crack while taking a poop. I've always had a weird, cracks back though so nothing surprises me. It was funny though.

  • Anyone been drinking the raspberry leaf (third-tri) tea?? I started a couple weeks ago, and maybe TMI, but I've noticed I'm having to duck into the bathroom more often for #2...a bit diarrhea-esque.  Anyone have this issue?  The tea is the only thing different I've introduced into my diet around the same time frame this started happening....  OR is this just another lovely third-tri symptom showing up?
  • also - sometimes I feel cramps in my thighs like I usually get during my period... are these related to BH? or contractions in general? Or possibly something else? (I plan to mention this to my Dr at my apt tomorrow)

  • I am so forgetful. I'm usually the one who remembers all the things when leaving the house. "Hey baby, do we have the grocery list, cash? What about the coupon for that place we're planning on eating lunch?" Now I'm lucky if I can remember the auto gate opener which is necessary to actually get out of the driveway! So scatterbrained and it's only getting worse.

  • @LMNObaby Yeah, sometimes Raspberry Red Leaf Tea affects me that way. I'm consistently constipated (even when I'm not pregnant), but occasionally, if I have my tea before I eat, it will mean a poop for me (which is a cause for celebration). So, I think it can have that affect. And, for someone with a "normal" digestive system, could probably lead to diarrhea.

  • @kmolleltz the nurse at our birthing class said that some people feel contractions in their thighs, so it could be BH/contraction related!

  • @lgw2015 ahhhh. Okay. I thought that might be a possibility. thanks for sharing!

  • Okay this is a stupid question but can you feel a contraction on just one side of the body?

Everything that I have read said the contraction happens over your entire uterus, that if you only feel it one side or the other, it's probably baby. But idunno.
  • I'm just wet. All the time. And I don't know if it's fluid or if I'm just peeing myself. Lol. Also, night time cramping sucks. I was awake half the night.

  • Hi ladies - just now catching up.

When I was in L&D last week, the nurses said if you think you might be leaking fluid, take your temperature. If it's slow so you're not sure (if you're leaking through a pantyliner go in) - take your temperature about 4 hours later. If you have a fever, it's fluid.

Speaking of L&D - my Pre-E test came back negative and my cervix was really high and closed (and the test was so painful, I don't think DH and I will be getting it on until 6 weeks PP now) and we assumed the Fetal fibronectin (pre term labor test) would also be negative. That was Thursday. I just got a call this morning telling me the test came back positive. Which isn't a huge worry since my other tests were negative, but does mean I'm at increased risk for preterm labor in the next week or so. So now every symptom - sore ab muscles, baby movements not being as strong, have me totally freaked out.

  • Thanks for the info @f47 !  I tend to go the other direction when I'm not pregnant (extra sensitive tummy...), so pregnancy seems to have "balanced" me out.  Was a little concerned over the recent diarrhea because I haven't had it all pregnancy!  Guess I've found the culprit!  Now, to decide if I keep drinking and deal with the consequences...
  • @sjo_thetwins that's what I thought

@MorganL925 that's good news on the first test but scary on the second.  At least you know so you can look for signs.

  • @MorganL925 I had a positive fFN test almost two weeks ago, and I'm actually angry with the OBGYN who did the test.  I had to do the research myself because all she told me was "if it's negative, you definitely won't go into labor in the next two weeks.  If it's positive, you have a higher than baseline chance of going into labor in the next two weeks."  From my cursory research, it looks like if you have a positive test and contractions and no other symptoms, you have a 30% chance of going into labor in the next two weeks.  Positive test and no other symptoms = about 7% chance.  Positive test plus contractions plus dilated or shortened cervix = about 75%.  I really wish she hadn't done the test because I've spent the last two weeks on edge and, like you, freaking out about every slightly-stronger-than-usual contractions.
  • @ignoscemihi - good to know I'm not alone, but sorry you've also been stressing. I had elevated BP and trace amounts of protein in my urine and my doctor noted she would usually just do labs, but because it was right before the holiday weekend, she wanted me to be monitored just to be 100% sure it wasn't pre-e. After monitoring and different tests, it all came back negative. It was the on-call doctor or ordered the fFN despite a check showing my cervix was closed and really high. I should have just said no, and I don't think my doctor would have ordered it had she been there. I was having some contractions spaced far apart, but I didn't even feel them...but that's another story. I have my regular appt scheduled for tomorrow so I'll talk to her about it then. I'll let you know if she has any other insight into it.

  • The groin pain is awful! It seems to come and go quickly and at random times when I'm standing or walking. Has anyone found a fix for this?

  • Nausea has came back with a vengeance!

@ByeBabyBunting this may be a stupid question but are you sure it's not ligament pain? I thought I was having sciatic nerve pain, because I had hip pain. I should have known better because my sciatic pain on my other side (unrelated to pregnancy) always felt different.  Anyway long story short, I got a pregnancy support belt and it helped immensely because the on call nurse correctly diagnosed me with round ligament pain. I also felt it in my groin.

  • @books&icecream I like the sound of that! I have an appointment this afternoon so we will see what my midwife tells me about them.

I am feeling SO much better today but my cough is still nasty. Once I start coughing I can't stope. I'm afraid I'm going to cough this baby out!
  • @krzyriver Stay away from google!  I had cramps and pressure one afternoon around 32 weeks and I made the mistake of googling it ... I had a total panic attack that I was going into early labor, I seriously freaked out!  My doctor said that the pressure and cramps were from the weight of baby being head down and because I overdid it that day (exercising and running a lot of errands + stress).  I learned my lesson and if I'm concerned about anything I'll just call my doctor, google is so not my friend.

@books&icecream That's good to know, that makes sense!  I was have some mild period like cramping last night.  It didn't seem like what a contraction would feel like (but I'm a clueless FTM).

    It's a boy!

  • @Blonde1817 That's what I've been telling him since like week 5, but he doesn't listen. All those symptoms have other possible causes so I'm not rushing off to L&D just based on those. Lol

Although the constant leaking is becoming concerning. I was assuming it was just watery discharge, but now I'm being told that odorless fluid is a worrying sign.... but I thought amniotic fluid was supposed to be sweet smelling? Anyone know?

  • @krzyriver I think it can either be odorless or sweet smelling and either clear or light yellow. I believe it's also the consistency of water, and if it's amniotic fluid it doesn't stop. I've heard if you think you're leaking to put on a panty liner, lay down for 30 min and then stand up and see if you leak. My dr. advised to call if I still wasn't sure.

  • @krzyriver not only are you and I the same person, it looks like we married the same man! My hip was hurting for 2 days (better now though) and my DH immediately went to google and found sites saying I was in early labour.  Though he wouldn't listen to the fact it was just 1 hip, and I didn't have much cramping, no bleeding or discharge or any other symptoms.  I told him most likely I hurt my hip from trying to do some strep B maintenance down there or from the cold/flu I was fighting.  He wanted me to go to L&D yesterday but I refused because babe was bouncing around like he was in a jungle gym so I knew I wasn't in labour.  Silly boy and his Google!

@NicholeL16 we seem to be in the same boat.  My flu like symptoms are gone, but I'm still coughing up a storm and my throat hurts (and a little stuffy).  My only saving grace is I'm off work now so some serious rest is happening.

  • @LauraPCOS Lol! Silly men. They try so hard, but they're still so clueless. DH is pretty adorable when he gets stuck on an idea that's just totally off tho, so it's ok.  :D

@LGW2015 Ugh, why does everything have to be such a guessing game?! Lol. I did notice a rush when I stood up first thing this morning and it was running down my leg after my shower. I'm about to head home so I guess I'll lie down for a bit and see if it happens again.

  • Uh labor buddy...should I be on standby with this "rush" and "running down your leg" business??
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @LauraPCOS I really don't know. Lol. Honestly I didn't give it much thought at first because it happened about a month ago and turned out to be a bacterial infection. They told me I could check by the smell, a bacterial infection is fishy vs amniotic fluid which I was originally told would smell sweet. So I'm a toilet paper sniffer now. Lol. And this is different, completely odorless instead of a fishy smell, and definitely more frequent. Laying down now to see if it happens again.

  • @krzyriver my L&D nurse said you'll keep making amnionic fluid even after your water breaks.  She said if you put on a pad and walk around for 20 minutes, your pad will be soaked if your water broke.  Maybe give it a try?
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @LGW2015 @LauraPCOS Well nothing exciting happened when I stood up after laying down for 45 minutes, so I'm assuming it's watery discharge. But DH is still nervous. I think he's half ready to come home and check my crotch himself. Lol. I'll pace around the house just to double check for him, but I'm pretty sure I'm not leaking.

  • @krzyriver hey if he's willing to head down there for some investigation, get a little play time out of it lol

@Schell2013 SAME HERE!! I can feel the emotions bubbling and I will tell hubby I wanna cry and he will be all "why" and I'm all "because I'm pregnant and hormonal and I don't have a reason which makes it worse!!"
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @LauraPCOS Lmao! If he thinks I'm leaking amniotic fluid, he will NOT want to risk getting frisky. He'd probably be grossed out at the thought that I might be leaking.
