Baby's First Sponge Bath

Hi guys...Brooke is 6 days old and we still haven't really felt the need to give her a sponge bath...have you given your first sponge bath? If so, when? If not, when do you plan to?

  • I did it at 3 days old because her greasy hair was bothering me lol.

  • I gave Sophia one at 5 days old because of her greasy hair as well lol she loved it! She was passing out while I washed her hair :)

  • We bathed Xavier at 5 days old because of his hair and he kind of smelled like breast milk lol. His hair is so fluffy after his bath. He doesn't like baths but loves his hair being washed.
  • Quintin had his first bath in the hospital the day after he was born. We gave him another sponge bath at 4 days old and then again today at 9 days old (so 3-5 days in between). He's never really "needed" a bath per se but I like doing it and he doesn't mind at all!

  • I've only given Finley one real bath and two sponge baths! And he's over 5 weeks! Ha. I do wipe him down after feeds with water wipes though..maybe that counts?
  • Haha, we're more along the lines of @mom2adoodle ... We bath LO once a week. In between, I make sure to wipe her neck and hands with water wipes and she gets wiped down pretty well during diaper changes. I also occasionally wash her face with a wet washcloth and in her neck folds. She's 29 days old now though (so no more cord), so has had two actual baths in the Fisher Price tub with infant sling. I'm planning on bathing her tomorrow though!
  • We did at 4 days old to just see if she would like the warm water more than to bathe her. She loves it but since she's not dirty other than greasy hair we are waiting because her cord stump fell off too soon and I'm waiting on it to heal.

  • I bathed my son every couple days from day 1, because he loved floating in the water. I don't think you need to bathe them (submerged, sponged, or whatever) much at all, as long as they aren't covered in milk or poop.
