has anyone heard of these/used these/know someone who has? I keep seeing ads on Facebook or videos about how they hold two tampons worth at a time, and think it's brilliant (if it works)! I wonder if these would also work post-partum.

Ive got to admit, I'm curious about them being unsanitary

I had some light bleeding PP, but it was more than a tampon could hold. I have thought about getting a pair for when not PP/pregnant, but I wouldn't use them for PP.

My experience may be different, but PP bleeding was not pretty. I would stock up on the night time, giant, covers your butt pads. No tampons allowed PP.
I second @Kate08Young, I would save the period panties for regular periods.

Those panties hold up to 2 tampons worth. I'm not sure that will be enough PP and I would think it's more of a pain to change your underwear than your pad. Even on a heavy flow day with my period I can't get by with only 2 tampons. They do sell washable cloth maxi pads if you want something reusable and environmentally friendly.

I am also kind of weirded out about the hygiene aspect. I use a menstrual cup which I like a lot (not PP though, nothing allowed in the vagina then I think).

There's no way my post-partum bleeding would have been contained by two tampons the first two weeks. I also think they sound unsanitary (I'm sure they aren't, just I wouldn't feel "clean" personally). I'm not trying to be the holier then thou STM but... I was EXTREMELY unprepared for how much bleeding followed birth. Stock up on overnights and be prepared to use the whole box.

I was shocked at how much PP bleeding I had after a c-section. The day my OB released me to tampons was a miracle but I used heavy huge nighttime pads before that.

So this is so random that this came up because my SILs and I were talking about PP this weekend. I asked them with all the bleeding if they wore tampons and they both told me their doctors said to use pads and not tampons. Anyone else hear that?

I have a gf who loves these for her period. She previously used a Diva Cup, so is more on the crunchy spectrum. I don't think I would be comfortable with them.

@sammyl1221 - I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to put anything in your vagina post partum (tampons, penis, etc). Your doctor will tell you for how long. Maybe the STMs can weigh in on how long it was for them.

I am totally curious on those underwear for normal Period time but after giving birth..I can't imagine they could hold that much. It was like the amazon river during rain season. I mean if it could, impressive. NOW, its just me but tampon after DD was born..NO BUENO. My stitches and stuff was way to painful and hell sex made me feel like a virgin again. I stuck with pads when my period came back 12 months in. But that was just a personal thing. IF YOU CAN DO IT, more power to yah.

Nothing in the va jay jay for 6 weeks post partum after your check up. Too much is coming out (so. much. bleeding) and you can risk major infection keeping something up there. Personally, I was team mesh underwear and giant hospital pads for the first week or so. I was not prepared either for all of the bleeding. I still do pads 2 years post partum because like @MichaelSC28 said, everything feels differently down there after birth, and I had stitches too so anything up there hurt.

I got the same instructions after my c-section. No tampons.

I was fine with regular heavy pads. I never received any of the infamous mesh underwear and don't recall ruining any of my granny panties.

@sammyl1221 - like other said, nothing in the vajayjay 6 weeks post-partum, AT LEAST ( I added that last part). It is not good down there, I can't even imagine doing that.

Agree with others - nothing in the ol'gal for at least 6 weeks. Though once we were cleared for things like sex, that was still pretty painful for a while. It probably took me at least 10-12 weeks total to be able to enjoy sex at all. I didn't need tampons at that point, so I'm not sure how they would have felt.

The ginormous pads worked really well for me - along with mesh granny panties from the hospital and those glorious postpartum ice pack pads. Man, I want to wear one of those now, it's so hot here. They're delightfully refreshing!

So along the lines of stocking up on big ol' pads... how much is a good to have? I'm trying to work on my PP list and get things here and there rather than making one huge trip.

When I was in middle school they used to make these disposable underpants for periods. Anyone else ever heard of them? My grandmother used to buy them for me and I would use them with a huge pad because I was in middle school and paranoid about my period. Then I'd just take the whole thing, panties and all and throw them away. I'm pretty sure they were discontinued because no one was wearing those but me. I haven't thought about those things in a long time until this conversation started here.

I was pretty light, because they cleaned me out a ton during the CS, BUUUUTTT I used most of a 30pack of the super huge over night, the. An entire pack of the always overnight -thin ones- then I could get by with just regular pads. No matter what you get, make sure that they cover most/all of the area between top/front of underwear - to top of crack. Otherwise you might leak randomly from having moved like 1/2 an inch.

Like others mentioned, don't be surprised if you get tons of post partum bleeding. My plan this time is to use what they give at hospital first. Do yourself a favor and bring it all home. Then buy one package of overnight disposable pads. I may make padsicles. Then onto cloth pads. I use these and a diva cup when not pregnant/post partum. They are easy to clean (if you cloth diaper, even easier, same laundry). Any questions about it, feel free to ask.

I had a descent amount of PP bleeding, but I am starting to think I was not the norm after reading these responses. My midwife always get a lot out so I didn't have a crazy amount of bleeding. I used the mesh underwear, giant pads and the ice packs at the hospital. But after you leave the hospital the ice packs aren't necessary, the nurse told me that after 2 days they won't do anything bc most swelling is going away by that point. I just had overnight pads that I wore all day for a week or 2 then I didn't need anything after that. I didn't even go through a whole box of pads. Also as others have said nothing inside you for at least 6 weeks is what my Dr said.

I think I know what you're talking about and I think I had them too. Middle school was a crappy place to have a period, mine were so random and heavy.

I have endometriosis, so every month is essentially a reenactment of the Red Wedding on the Got. Not sure how or if it's going to affect PP bleeding for me. But, what I do when I have hellacious periods is I have a bunch of boy short undies that I don't care if I stain (they keep pads in place better than other cuts). I use heavy maxi pads with wings for the day, and long, overnight heavy pads with wings for bed time. Flushable wipes to keep me feeling at least slightly fresh, and of course tons of chocolate because I mean REALLY. Also pain meds because my back hurts from the cramps. Oh, and a heating pad.

So PP bleeding is kind of like a "do your worst, uterus!" thing for me.

@dmontgo as a fellow endo sufferer, PP bleeding sucked the wind right outta my sails. I wasn't prepared at all for the amount of blood my body released or for the amount of time i would bleed. I bled for roughly 9 weeks ( the last 3 weeks were mainly light and spotty ). I also didn't realize how much I would bleed after having had a c-section. That being said, I do think endo will have prepared you well enough for the unexpected!

Agree with PPs, no tampons! Honestly, tampons will be the last thing you'll want to shove up there anyway. Even though I had a section, it took me well over a year to get comfortable with them again.

As far as the OP, I just can't with period panties.

@Christinaruth74 Currently applying my war paint, because that sounds awful. I'm also glad to know I'm not the only one who has to deal with it; I think you and me are the only endo sufferers that I'm aware of--was getting lonely!

I'm still trying to decide what birth control would be best. I want something non-hormonal, but copper IUDs make bleeding worse, and that is just a big nope for me...

@ashleygorokhovsky My sister uses them and loves them! True story: I was about to treat myself to a couple pairs because of her recommendation but then I got my BFP, haha. I'm a FTM and definitely wouldn't try them out for those first few weeks of heavy bleeding, but...maybe after that? I guess my issue would be that it's like an extra long period, so instead of just four days of having to rotate through a couple pairs of panties you'd really have to stock up. Also! I think Buzzfeed did a review.

High fives to all the other Diva cup/menstrual cup users out there! I started in college and haven't looked back since. (And sorta TMI alert but...if you want to bleach your cup back to its original color, stick it in a cup of hydrogen peroxide overnight. It works wonders. You won't even believe it.)

@PensiveCrayon honestly, the Divacup was actually life-changing. I felt like I had regained some ground having a period had taken away from me. I can't recommend them enough to people.

@Austenista Yes! It's so nice not to worry about having to buy supplies or pack anything but the cup when I travel somewhere. I used it through our entire year of living in India, and it was totally fine!

Lots of pp bleeding here too and it was pretty heavy for awhile. Lots of clots as well. I was told if the clot is egg sized then to go in. I bled for six weeks after I think.

I had 2 c-sections, I bled pretty heavily after each of them.
With my first (+26 hrs of labor), I needed to giant pads for about 3-4 weeks. Then I went to regular pads for 1-2 weeks before I finally stopped bleeding.
With my second, giant pads for 2 weeks, regular pads for 1-2 weeks.
But without birth control or mirena, I am a pretty heavy bleeder naturally (middle school was a nightmare). I was unprepared for how much I was going to bleed, and the clots, it was like wtf? Reminded me of my terrible periods pre-birth control/mirena. And I think I traumatized my DH because he had to help me onto the toilet for a few days after my first c-section. His face, well, let's just say I know he loves me, because his look of shock was like no other. And that was after he watched me have a section! But all of us will have a different pp experience, pray that yours is not bad.
Like so many other things, everyone is different! I think I need to shorten that because I say it so much - EID! Lol
