TTC After a Loss

When to start exercising post m/c?

Hi All, running is my favorite hobby, keeps my sanity (clears my head), makes me happy, relieves stress, etc. My one doctor (4 in practice) advised to wait 7-10 days post miscarriage and the other said wait until my HCG is zero.. Which is a little insane. Anyway, this was my 2nd m/c in 8 months, I was 7.5 weeks... Not sure if all that makes a difference but thought I'd see what others were advised to do.

Re: When to start exercising post m/c?

  • After my d&c I was told not to lift over 10 pounds for 2 weeks and after that I was cleared for anything. I don't see a problem in running. And I can't figure out why you would need to have your hcg return to zero for that

I'm really sorry for your loss.

I'm not advising you to go against your doctor's advice because there may be nuances to your situation we aren't aware of and that may be why your doctor advised as they did. If you don't understand or agree with their recommendation then ask for clarification.

In my case, I had a very early complete miscarriage without excessive bleeding. I didn't take time off from running (although I can think of scenarios when I would have advised patients much differently). So I think the key is getting individualized medical advice from a physician you trust.
  • So very sorry for your loss. I agree with AnonymousMom that we may not know all the particulars of your situation, but I was cleared by my doc to return to my normal barre classes 2 days after my D&C - she knows it helps me heal....

  • Thanks Ladies. I will call Wednesday, similarly to @anonymousmom I'd say this was earlier (well then last time) and I've had light bleeding then nothing except random brown spotting not everyday- assuming its residual just randomly/gradually coming out. Kind of wondering the this crap will stop indefinitely.
