I am currently in Phoenix and have been for the past 5 years. Before that was stints in Chicago Kentucky and Texas. I definitely miss Chicago more than anything. I second/third everyone about Chicago falls being spectacular. I didn't really mind the winters since all 3 other seasons made up for it. I lived 3 blocks off the lake and for to enjoy all the seasons

Upstate NY here. I can relate to everyone about frozen nostrils. It usually ends up -20 for a decent stretch of the winter.

I live in the Des Moines, IA area. It's great here! We live on an acreage but are close to everything since it's not a huge city but still has everything we need. Plus it's easy to get to Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, and Chicago. I grew up in NE Indiana and have also lived in the Quad City, Kansas City and Atlanta areas.

Born in Ohio but moved to Florida when i was a baby.

Grew up in Cocoa Beach. Still work there but live about 35 minutes away in a city called Viera. I love where i am for now. My mok and sister live about 20 min away. And i am about 45 min to an hour from Orlando. Which we visit often to "get away"

We live right outside of Manhattan on the NJ side. DH and I both work in the city and love that we can walk to public transportation and be at our jobs in 40 minutes with a starbucks stop. I may be a weirdo but I LOVVVVVEEEE public transportation and hate driving. We are likely relocating next summer as DH has some health issues and is looking for a more steady 9-6 job as opposed to big law crazy hours he works now. Plus its not a feasible place to buy a house. Ill miss it though because my (HUGE) extended family is all within 20 minutes. inlays split their time between KY and FL.

@Mother0fDragons @slam1110 Florida is on the top of the list when we relocate. Both of our sets of parents are retiring to Florida. Do you miss snow at all? The most editing part about Florida for me is that I will get to pay Florida resident prices for Disney passes....

@WillRunForWine21 My family moved from NJ when I was seven, so can't really speak about missing snow. But I know my parents sure don't miss it. Plus all of the talk about frozen nostrils...yeah no thank you!!!

I was born and raised in a suburb of Miami. I currently live in South Florida, but am a little further from the city now. I love the diversity and access to food,art, entertainment, and shopping here but honestly am not sure that it makes up for the traffic/poor drivers, cost of living, or the sense of entitlement the general public tends to carry around with them down here.

That said, I do like Florida in general. Key Largo makes for the best weekend vacations. My folks live in the Sarasota area and I went to college up in St. Pete/Tampa. I love both places and if there were more opportunities there in DH's field, we would move in a heartbeat. His field does have opportunities in Orlando, so I could see us easily moving there once he has 5 years of management experience under his belt. I'm a bit jealous of all the frequent Disney goers and also that Central Florida actually experiences cooler winters.

I'm from Nebraska, but I've lived in Missouri, Tennessee, and Alabama. My H is from Central Florida.

I love the small town feel of Nebraska, the hospitality, the slow pace, the seasons.

We've talked about moving to FL, but always end up staying here.

Manhattan. I'm from California, and I've lived on the east coast for over a decade, but I do not get used to the winters. It is such a misery. I love the hot, humid summers, though. I know that makes me one in a million.

@adirat I hear ya on the Sandy front. I was out for 11 days, it was horrendous.
I grew up in NJ by the beach (what some would call The Shore). I went to college in PA outside of Philly but came back because it's hard to be away from the beach. DH grew up in a legit NJ beach town on the ocean block. The area is amazing in September (local summer), a ghost town in the winter, and Snooki filled in the summer. We just moved (last weekend) to Western Massachusetts. It's definitely different. My commute is about 50 mins which is a lot, but it's just distance and not traffic which is nice. Now we are 4 hours from 'home' and family. It was a lot for me to move away from my family, my nieces, but at some point you have to do what is best for your little family and taking this job was just what made sense.

I grew up in upstate NY, then moved to the capital for 4+ years. I currently live in the Catskill Mountain Park, which is where MH grew up.

Before moving here I thought the landscape was absolutely gorgeous, but the idea of living 20 minutes from the closest gas station, 45 minutes from the closest shopping town, and 25 minutes from the closest pizza place (pizza runs in my veins), was overwhelming. But I've really adjusted and I must say I love it. We have neighbors but the majority of the homes around us are weekend/summer homes for out of town folks. So it's really quiet and safe. I've seen more wildlife (bears, deer, coyote, foxes, etc) since being here than I ever did in the city (obviously). It was definitely a huge transition, but I became more flexible because of it. I don't think I'd ever want to move back to a suburb, definitely would never move to the city again. Actually our goal is to move deeper into the mountains where we can have more acreage.

I live in Boston and I love it. There are so many great restaurants and fun things to do. I grew up in southern CT (Shelton) and my family is still here so I visit a lot. I'm actually in Shelton right now and a little nervous about the weather this weekend. I hope I can safely get back to Boston tomorrow without getting blown off the road!

I think I am the first to post Ohio! I live in central Ohio, but I was born in Toledo, OH moved to Tecumseh, MI (shout out to @mrs35 and @firebaby688! My uncle lives in Petosky). I settled into Central Ohio 4 years ago.

@WillRunForWine21 I've lived in Florida my whole life. Even for college. I don't know any different. But the Disney passes and ability to do the payment plan is awesome. We are there 1-2x/week.

@EEL0824 Petoskey is such a beautiful place! They have the most breathtaking sunsets there! I went to the community college there for a year before transferring to a university. Wish I could have stayed longer.

We live in northwestern Illinois about 1 1/2 from Chicago. I love where we are. We are only an hour from our families who live in the suburbs. We're about 10 minutes from Rockford, which for being the 2nd most miserable city in the country has a lot of fun stuff going on. We live in a cute little subdivision with very friendly neighbors surrounded by corn fields.

@mrs35 I absolutely LOVE visiting my uncle. He lives out in the "country" so he his house is surrounded by woods and it's just stunning. Petosky is such a beautiful city.

Looks like I'm the only one representing Alabama! I live in a super small, rural town about 25 miles north of Montgomery. DH and I were raised here so both of our families live about 10 minutes from us. I moved away for four years in college, but made my way back. I love my teeny tiny hometown most days! We have two caution lights (no stop lights) that are recent developments, and if we want to eat anything other than Subway or really terrible pizza, we have to travel 20 minutes.

I'm in Bama too! I live in Huntaville which is okay, but I often find myself feeling out of place. I grew up here but my immediate family is from NY. Whenever I'm in situations with real southerners discussing sweet tea, football and who they are kin to.....I tend to wonder if I was meant to be in the south.

@LLo3 I had two college roommates that were from the Huntsville area! And I know what you mean. People look at me like I am a freak when I tell them I do not like sweet tea. Although I do love football with a fiery passion haha

@mrs35 @EEL0824 @firebaby688. Another Michigan girl here! I live in the suburbs South of Grand Rapids, MI. I love the 4 seasons, and don't even mind the snow at the beginning of the year. I don't like green Christmases. I also like the size of GR and all the restaurants and breweries, not to mention Lake Michigan is about 40 minutes drive from where I live. It's also big enough to have an airport which I'll pay the extra $ for over flying out of Detroit or Chicago (save on parking, only have a short drive, short lines). But 3 hours drive to Chicago or Traverse City makes for easy weekend getaways when we need a change of scenery. Also, my family is here which makes it tough to leave.

DH is from Phoenix AZ but has grown to like MI

I love this thread because I always kind of wonder if there might be someone on here I've passed in the grocery store or something lol it's a small world

I'm in Toledo, Ohio. Born and raised here. My parents live across the street from us and my MIL is about 15 mins away. Toledo seems to be getting better but still has it's struggles, as any larger city would. We want to move, I just don't know if I can move away from my family.

I grew up on the Jersey Shore and went to college in NC and never left. I live outside if Charlotte now. The summers are hot humid and kind of terrible but the winters can't be beat. We still clearly have 4 seasons but it doesn't get extremely cold ever which is awesome. DH went waterskiing thanksgiving day last year (he wore a wetsuit, but still).

After growing up in NJ, other than the weather, the best thing about the south is the lower cost of living. I'm the only one of my high school friends who could afford to buy a home less than a year after graduating college...most of them stayed in the northeast. I mean it was just a condo, but still. It was downtown and I walked to work for 9 years and it was amazing. We live in the 'burbs on a lake now and have a 35-45 minute commute, which is completely tolerable. I do wish there was better public transportation here though so I didn't have to drive in. Charlotte is a reasonably big city but the public transportation is almost nonexistent.

Being from a city where no one knows their neighbors, I've always been so impressed with how friendly and polite people in that area have been to us!

I'm originally from a small town in Montana (I also lived in a town with only one stoplight-- I would tag but I don't know how). Now I live in a suburb of Las Vegas. I don't miss the snow at all. It is super hot in the summer but the rest of the year is gorgeous. I love being close to so many things and, even though we live 15 minutes from the Vegas strip, I still feel like we have a small community feel where I live. Plus flights back to Montana from Vegas are so cheap (like $40 each way) that I can go visit whenever I want.
