Runaway baby.

My son Denver turned 8 months August 26th, and he's been an agressivly rolling baby since about 7-71/2 months (where he rolls every chance he gets) in the past week he's added scooting/crawling to the mic which is awesome.
What isn't awesome is having to chase him while he's trying to roll away when I need to change his diaper.
I used to be able to sing to him and he'd calm down - not anymore
I give him his favorite toy - not interested
the tv remote- he throws it at me.
My phone - it ends up with the remote.
A bottle - throws too.
All he wants it to roll and sit up and try to grab the baby powder bottle so he can chew on it. Or the box of wipes.

He used to sit still for the poopy diaper changes but not anymore.
Does anyone have any tips on how to stop this during diaper changes.

Re: Runaway baby.

  • My LO does the same. The best I've come up with is let her roll around for a bit, then try again. And when I can get her back on her back, be quick about it. I get her clothes on while she's "standing" up now instead of on the changing table.
  • Loading the player...
  • I feel your pain! LO can now flip, get on her hands and knees and quickly move forward all at the same time! I usually give her the wipes and she goes bananas crinkling the bag. That slows her down a bit. The best is when you have poopy diaper and she's grabbing herself, sticking her hand in it and trying to roll!
  • Brynlee is terrible about this. And her poopy diapers are always brimming, so the second she starts rolling, it's poop everywhere. There's usually extra hands at my house, so if possible, I hand one of them hold her down. Otherwise, I sacrifice a towel... keep a towel underneath her during changes and just go as fast as possible in hopes that it doesn't end up everywhere.
  • Ssme issue here. She will not sit still for a second. I give her whatever she wants ha. Usually its the tube of diaper cream for some reason. Today it was a sticker. Whatever works!
  • My problem is she won't sit down. I try to sit her down and she won't bend her knees. She wants to stand
  • All I can say is I feel your pain and there is a poo stain on the white wall in his nursery because of the rolling. I play the get it done quickly and button his onesie standing up game. This kid wants to be free and damned if he's going to let a poopy diaper stop him! But seriously, I'm no help. He rolls all over the place and screams bloody murder when I change him. It's like we haven't been changing his diaper several times a day for the last 8 months.... Oy vay.
  • I watch a baby a few months older than LO and he's all over the place. I stopped using the changing table and now just use the floor. I also just put the clean diaper under him before I take the dirty one off so it's quicker to wipe and put the clean one on.
  • My 8 month okd daughter does this and my saving grace has been letting her hold the butt paste tube. Its the only thing that lets me change her without a fight. Try different objects till you find something he is interested in.
  • Mine is obsessed with the tie of my bathrobe.  If I let him play with the end of that he'll stay still for the whole diaper change.  Otherwise, he's rolling all over the place.  Sometimes I'll go put it on before I change him just to make it easier.  :)
  •  I always wondered how poop could get on the walls. I've heard it so many times before. Now I know.
  • The poop on the wall cracks me up! The one thing that I do that is a little gross is make fart sounds. She finds it hilarious and keeps her from moving momentarily while changing her. Hey, whatever works lol
  • Yep, poop on the wall actually happened... Ugh. At least I can paint over it.... We seem to have run out of things he's interested in holding, so basically I need 2 extra arms.
  • @Cricket99 I've been know to do diaper changes on the floor and pin his shoulders to the ground with my leg.  It only works after all the poop has been wiped off though
  • SO had a moment where LO pooped secretly. He kept smelling something on LO and he decided we were going to give him a bath (I'm in the shower- SO decided we were going to skip LO's bath last night)...
SO lays DS on the bed, opens the diaper and the source was revealed. SO had no supplies to clean it up since we were about to go to a bath, and he's just standing there like "I don't know what to do, I can't get anything, he's going to roll all over everything"

it was a humorous situation because now SO knows what I'm talking about when I say "I literally can't get anything done"

  • @nackie I tried that too and poop still got every where. This kid has legs like tree trunks.... He kicks like a mule.
  • @nackie I'm glad I'm not the only one... and @Cricket99 Brynlee kicks like no baby I've ever met. SO and I both have bruises from her kicking our and during diaper changes.
  • What is it with the butt paste tube and the wipes box? Mime is the same way! Lol and he has always been a wiggle worm.
  • @BarrettJ89 maybe we should start a baby soccer team or something because I'm also covered in bruises from diaper changes and playtime. There's got to be a way to make some money off these kickers in a circus freak show, or crushing grapes for wine, or powering a boat across long stretches of water! I just don't figure it means we will have early walkers with the well developed leg muscles. Let the baby proofing begin!
